TWTD - Murphy Set for QPR

- The 28-year-old Irishman opted against signing a new one-year contract on reduced terms at Portman Road prior to the final game of the season at Leicester.

- Former QPR, Mark Devlin was today appointed the new General Manager of Brentford. He joins Brentford from Notts County, where he was Commercial and Marketing Director. The very best of luck to him.

Brentford Official Site - BRENTFORD APPOINT GENERAL MANAGER (Ex-QPR's Mark Devlin)

Tue 05 Jul 2011- Brentford Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Devlin as General Manager.

Mark will leave his position as Commercial and Marketing Director at Notts County to take up his position at Griffin Park and will start on Monday, July 11.

Mark said: "I would like to place on record my thanks to Notts' Chairman Ray Trew for giving me the opportunity to work at the League's Oldest Football Club and for the hard work and support of all the staff at Meadow Lane.

"It is an exciting time to be joining Brentford and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, especially in developing the fanbase and helping with the building of the commercial operation."

Greg Dyke, Brentford Football Club Chairman, said: "We welcome Mark Devlin to Brentford Football Club and we are grateful to Notts County Chairman Ray Trew for agreeing to release him.

"Mark is a hugely experienced Chief Executive Officer, a position he served at both Swindon and Queen's Park Rangers.

"He joins us at an exciting and challenging time and we expect him to have a considerable impact moving the Club forward in all off the field activities."

Mark was previously Chief Executive at Queen's Park Rangers and Swindon Town, leaving the Wiltshire club in 2007 following his involvement, and that of his son, in a plane crash while travelling back from a fixture at Hartlepool United.

He moved back into football in January 2011 when he joined Notts County. Brentford

Shamrock Rovers Official Site - O’Neill brings Magilton on board
Wednesday, 06 July 2011 08:32

Shamrock Rovers boss, Michael O’Neill, has enlisted the services of his former Northern Ireland teammate, Jim Magilton to assist him while he considers candidates for the role of his assistant manager.

O’Neill said: “I thought Jim's other commitments in Northern Ireland and the UK would prevent him helping me at this crucial stage of the season. I was delighted when he said he would assist me until I find the right candidate for the job on a permanent basis.

“He brings not only a wealth of knowledge and experience of the game at the highest level, but he is someone I trust implicitly, and that was a key factor in my decision.”

Magilton – a former Northern Ireland captain – has managed Ipswich Town and QPR in the English Championship.

O’Neill will continue to consider candidates for assistant manager at the club.

QPR Official Site - ONES BLOG: PREPARING FOR THURSDAY
Posted on: Tue 05 Jul 2011
Mick Jones will be producing a blog throughout the coming Premier League season. If you have any questions for our Assistant Manager, e-mail paulm@qpr.co.uk

In this, his first entry, Jones reveals how the Club are preparing for the return of the players…

Our pre-season campaign gets underway this Thursday. Preparations are going well but we have done this many times. It's a well-worn plan that has worked very well over the years.

Neil Warnock will be very heavily involved. We won't see him away from any of the training sessions. He will be there from the first minute to the last. He likes to be really involved in it all.

The manager's training plan hasn't changed too much over the past 20 years, ever since I was first introduced to it. It has worked for us throughout that time, and we always feel that come the first game of the season we are fitter than, or as fit as, most teams.

I will be overseeing it, but Carl Serrant (our Strength & Conditioning Coach) will have a massive say in what goes on, particularly over the next ten days when it is all physical.

It's a lot of hard work. Certainly the first two days will be very comprehensive, and then they will have a break over the weekend. The five days next week will be really hard going for them.

The players will be monitored every day and the staff will hold regular meetings. If we feel we have over-done it or under-done it, we will put it right for the following day.

Although not much has changed over the years of doing pre-seasons, there are more facilities available to us in terms of science and sports medicine, and it would be stupid to ignore them. It is important to keep an open mind in terms of progress within football, but the basics are still the same.

Pre-season has to be well structured. We've always said that if you could give a player a tablet and it would have them as fit as could be for the start of the season, they would all take it. But it doesn't work like that and it requires a lot of effort from the players.

I am a big believer in targeting your points and where you are going to get them. When we were in the Premier League with Sheffield United we beat Tottenham and Arsenal, and we didn't target those points. In the end, we got relegated on one goal. That experience will set us in good stead for this season.

It is going to be a tough challenge but we are more than ready for it. QPR

Standard/Simon Johnson - Adel Taarabt wants to leave us, says Neil Warnock

Queens Park Rangers have been handed a major blow after manager Neil Warnock admitted that he expects captain Adel Taarabt will leave the club this summer.

Taarabt played a huge part in helping the club win promotion to the Premier League last season but has his heart set on leaving Loftus Road and won't be playing a part in helping them stay in the top flight.

Paris St-Germain have already made a £13.5million bid for the 22-year-old midfielder, while Atletico Madrid are also interested in him.

Taarabt also expressed a desire over the summer to join either Chelsea or Arsenal but Warnock believes he is heading back to France because he wants to be closer to his family.

Warnock told Standard Sport: "I'm more inclined into thinking he will be going rather than staying. He has that many advisors and they're all pushing him to leave.

"He said to me at the end of last season that over the final six weeks he had been really down and was tired out as well. He played 44 games and I don't think that he had played more than 20 before.

"The Championship had been so hard and he is missing his family in Marseille. If we get a big offer from a club in France that obviously gives him a chance to be closer to them. That would be a big pull.

"PSG have made an enquiry and they obviously offer him the chance to be nearer to home, although there is a Spanish club being mentioned as well. As far as his talk of wanting to go to Chelsea or Arsenal, I know he has a lot of friends at Arsenal.

"But Flavio Briatore [QPR's co-owner] is dealing with the negotiations. He is keeping me informed of the situation and at this precise moment he won't be leaving because no one has met the asking price.

"I am not sure what that is but we have to take into account that Tottenham will get around 30-40 per cent of it because of what was agreed when we signed him from Spurs last year."

QPR don't begin pre-season training until Thursday and Warnock will still make one last bid to try and change Taarabt's mind.

He was a key part of the team that won the Championship last season, scoring 19 goals and winning Football League Player of the Year.

Warnock added: "Personally, I think he will be better off playing in an environment and under a manager who will persevere with him if he has two or three bad games.

"He has a number of advisors around him and throughout the summer he hasn't had the best advice. You can tell when he walked out of the Morocco squad ahead of the biggest game in their history against Algeria. Sometimes he does things without thinking, he's only a young lad.

"My advice to him is to stay until Christmas, get some experience and show people what he can do.

"That may fall on deaf ears unfortunately. It's sad. I don't think I have ever spent so much time trying to get the best out of one individual and I think he will regret leaving."

Taarabt's departure will hit the Rangers squad hard, particularly as the club have yet to sign any players in the transfer window.

They have tried to get striker Jay Bothroyd and lost out on Peterborough and Scotland frontman Craig Mackail-Smith to Brighton.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry insists QPR's co-owners Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone are to blame for the club's failure to buy any new players.

He said: "I did a deal [for Mackail-Smith] with Neil six weeks ago to be quite honest but Briatore and Ecclestone wouldn't back Neil, he can't even get a free transfer in, he can't even get a tea lady in.

"They're a disgrace. If his owners don't back him Neil can't do anything. He's performed miracles to get QPR into the Premier League. He should have all the backing in the world and he's had none at all." Standard
