Sunday People/Dean Jones - QPR ready to sell sulking midfielder Taarabt to PSG

QPR are ready to sell Adel Taarabt in January – with PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN set to make a new offer.

Egotistical midfielder Taarabt, 22, has failed to hit the heights of last season’s promotion romp.

And high-profile stars Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips have both been stunned by the preferential treatment he has received at the club.

Owner Tony Fernandes has now run out of patience with the moody Moroccan, who has failed to score in this campaign.

Boss Neil Warnock has tried to support Taarabt, but PSG are expected to lodge an offer to take the player to France.

Any misgivings Warnock might feel will be offset by the green light from Fernandes to sign up to five big names to help the Hoops avoid relegation.

Cash from the sale of Taarabt will be available. People

Napoli "viewed QPR players" | www.football-italia.net

By Football Italia staff

Napoli “have viewed some Queens Park Rangers players,” revealed transfer consultant Gianni Di Marzio.

The London club are surprisingly acting as a potential feeder for the Stadio San Paolo giants.
???
“There are many names linked with the Azzurri and I can say with certainty that the Napoli directors came to view some Queens Park Rangers players,” Di Marzio told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“I really hope they are going to make a bid for Adel Taarabt, the Moroccan striker. He was born in 1989, is very extrovert and spectacular, a real juggler of football.

“He is a player who belongs on the big stage and could be Walter Mazzarri’s pupil, seeing as he can cover many positions in attack.

“The time has come for Napoli to sign a top player, now that they are famous in Europe.” Football Interest

MIRROR - Brian McNally - Barton backs football's campaign to kick out racism

Joey Barton’s role as a passionate anti-racism ambassador belies the image of the bad-boy football star.

The QPR skipper is battling to escape a troublesome past both on and off the pitch that once saw him jailed for assault.

Controversial as well as charismatic, the far-right English Defence League even falsely tried to claim Barton as a recruit.

But an indignant Barton decisively kicked their untrue claims into touch — pouring scorn on their racist agenda in the process.

Barton has never shied away from denouncing the evils of racism, even though his younger brother, Michael, was jailed in 2005 for 17 years for a horrific racist murder. And now Barton has thrown his weight behind the influential Show Racism The Red Card campaign.

Barton said: “It is ignorance or a fear of what people don’t know and don’t understand.

“There was a lot of prejudice when I was growing up, but through football you are very fortunate to have some different people as your best mates with different philosophies.

“Through intelligence and being open-minded, you really become aware of different races or creeds and embrace them for what they are.”

Barton still vividly recalls his first experience of racism during a match.

He explained: “I remember playing with Shaun Wright-Phillips when we went to Montenegro to play for England Under-21s.

“I’d never heard any racist chants before. While Shaun and Jermain Defoe were warming up, there was virtually a whole stand doing monkey chants.

“It was the first time that I had ever come across it as a professional footballer.

“I remember looking at each other thinking ‘what’s going on?’

“It definitely made me think ‘What’s this? Why did they do this?’ and the only conclusion I can come to is a lack of intelligence and understanding. Hopefully, great campaigns like Show Racism the Red Card can reach people and transcend sport to show people what is out there if you are susceptible to other cultures.”

Barton is convinced that educating people about discrimination and bullying holds the key to defeating racism.

He explained: “I think that’s a human trait. At school, kids have that in them — to pick out something different about someone.

“It is something that is in all of us and I think it comes from a defensive stand or insecurity.

“If you’re making fun of someone else and laughing at them or pointing out their weaknesses, then you are shying away from you as a person.”

Barton is frank about how he had to confront his own demons which had created insecurity.

He said: “I was guilty of that for a long time until I did human development work to find out about myself, because I was erring quite a bit.

“A lot of the behavioural traits I had came from a deep-rooted insecurity or a lack of understanding or a lack of intelligence about what was

going on.

“The more people are educated about what goes on and what can happen, I think the better for society in general.

“It’s certainly shown in football grounds now – I mean it is a much better theatre to play in for all races.

“I think it’s important that high-profile figures and high-profile sportsmen use their profile to educate people.” Mirror
