Senior coaches brought in to work with the club’s newly-formed Academy
QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club is pleased to announce the additions of senior coaches Paul Furlong and Nick Daws, who will both work with the club’s newly-formed Academy.
Former R’s striker and fans’ favourite Furlong – who also represented Coventry City, Watford, Chelsea and Birmingham City among others during his playing days – has been appointed Assistant Youth Development Coach, having already worked in a part-time capacity with the club.
Furlong will assist in ensuring that all our Academy players from the ages of 12 to 16 receive high-quality coaching and the pastoral, sports science and support services that each individual requires at this crucial developmental stage.
Meanwhile, Daws – who enjoyed a playing career with the likes of Bury and Rotherham United and has since held coaching roles with the Millers and Barnsley – has been appointed Assistant Professional Development Coach.
This role will see Daws working with Steve Gallen and the Under-18s, as they are prepare for the transition to the Elite Development Squad and professional football.
Head of Academy & Football Operations, Shaun Hallet, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured the services of Nick and Paul.
“Their substantial experience in professional football and undoubted qualities as coaches will further strengthen our growing professional team in the Academy.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti has slammed Los Blancos’ decision to ship Esteban Granero out of the Bernabeu and bring Michael Essien in this summer.
On a frantic transfer deadline day, Real Madrid sold Spanish pass-master Granero to English Premier League outfit Queens Park Rangers, while later swooping to sign Essien on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
Essien’s arrival resulted in Lassana Diarra being shipped to wealthy Russian Premier League club Anzhi Makhachkala. Guti however is of the opinion that Real Madrid did not need to sign Essien, could have kept Granero, and thus handed the Spaniard more playing time upon Diarra’s departure.
Indeed, for the man who clocked up more than 500 appearances for Los Blancos and spent 24 years at the club, the actions of his former employers make no sense.
"There are things I do not understand in football and one is them is to bring Essien in to let Granero go", Guti told Madrid-based daily Marca.
"Granero is much better than him and he is Spanish.
"Right now the best players are Spanish. What happens is that more money is taken if it is a foreign player, it does not sit well with me.
"Having [Sami] Khedira, Granero, Xabi Alonso and [Luka] Modric, if they play three, do we need Lass or Essien? I don’t think so and we have the cantera [Real Madrid youth system, ed.]
"It is my opinion and what I really think. That does not mean I am right, but it is what I say.

New Olympique de Marseille signing Joey Barton has spoken of his delight at joining the French giants, and hopes to repair his image while on the south coast of France.
The former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder sealed his loan move to the former European champions on deadline day, after two days of negotiations, with Cameroon international Stephane Mbia moving in the other direction.
Barton was presented to the media at Stade Velodrome, ahead of the Ligue 1 leaders' encounter against Rennes later on Sunday.
The 30-year-old had earlier told Telefoot that playing for Marseille represents the biggest challenge of his career.
"I never imagined [that I would] one day play in France. This is the biggest challenge of my career. I need to be in good physical condition. I don't think I will be at the top until after three or four weeks of intensive training.
"I'm very excited to wear this jersey and play for Marseille. I immediately accepted this opportunity. OM may well be part of the English league - football and the city are intrinsically linked, which is not the case in London or Paris," the one-time England international later said in his presentation press conference.
"I remember when I was 10 or 11 years old and the OM of [Didier] Deschamps and [Basile] Boli [and Alen] Boksic won the Champions League [in 1993]."
Speaking about his remaining nine-match suspension from the FA, incurred against Manchester City on the last day of the 2011-12 Premier League season, Barton remains uncertain about whether the ban will be transferred to his new club.
"We do not know yet what will happen. I must repair the damage I have caused. I was stupid on several occasions in England. I want to show my qualities. But I'm a good guy.
"Those who know me know that I'm not a bad person. I hope they will judge me correctly. For me, the important thing is to play and win. OM is perfect, especially in terms of mentality. It is the same passion [as] in England.
Marseille aim to continue their 100 per cent record against Rennes later on Sunday. Kick-off is at 17:00CET.
