Shields Gazette- Taylor committed to Newcastle despite QPR bid COMMITTED ...
STEVEN Taylor’s looking to stay at Newcastle United – and help the club back up the Premier League table.
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is keen to take Taylor to Loftus Road.
Redknapp – who signed free agent Danny Simpson after his Newcastle contract expired earlier this month – is rebuilding the team which was relegated from the Premier League last season.
But United manager Alan Pardew is determined to hold on to the influential defender.
And the 27-year-old – who is under contract until 2016 – isn’t looking towards the exit door at St James’s Park, despite the club’s disappointing domestic campaign last term.
Taylor told the Gazette: “Every player at this club wants to do well.
“I’m just hoping next season we can surprise a few people, and answer the questions that have been asked of us as a group.
“We want to jump up that league and answer our critics.”
Taylor was linked with a move to QPR as part of a swap deal for striker Loic Remy over the weekend.
However, Remy – who snubbed a move to St James’s Park in January – isn’t understood to be among the United’s main striking targets.
And Taylor remains settled at Newcastle, the club he has represented all his career.
Taylor’s central defensive partnership with captain Fabricio Coloccini is important to the plans of manager Alan Pardew, who returned to Tyneside over the weekend after his summer holiday.
Coloccini is due back this week after being involved in Argentina’s summer internationals.
Pardew, looking to sign a central defender in the summer transfer window, is keen to strengthen his defensive options, not weaken them.
The coming campaign will be Taylor’s 11th at United, with the former England Under-21 captain having made his first-team debut just over a decade ago.
Taylor has made 235 appearances, and scored 13 goals, for United. . Shields Gazette
