70th Birthday for Ian Watson

Ian Watson Joined QPR from Chelsea for 5,000 pounds in Summer of 1965 (Possibly the first Jim Gregory era signing, Watson was one of a number of Chelsea "rejects" who did a great job for QPR). Played some 200 games primarily wearing #2 shirt but also #3 shirt and also a few games as center back. He briefly captained QPR.

Watson Did NOT play in the 1967 League Cup Final. Tony Hazell had his spot.)

Watson was our only "ever-present" in the calamatous 1968/1969 Relegation season (which shows how good he must have been). Some seasons he played few games. Others he played the majority. He played 35 games in our 1972/73 promotion season. He played the first six games of our 1973/74 season back in the return. And then he retired.

Remember him having a perfect temperament.

Near the end of his career, there was "another" player named Ian Watson (Sunderland and England), but for QPR fans, QPR's Ian was the "real" Ian Watson! - Further Photos

Harry Redknapp in at Hammers?

HARRY REDKNAPP has emerged as the hot favourite to succeed under-fire Sam Allardyce at West Ham.

SUCCESSOR Harry Redknapp SUCCESSOR? Harry Redknapp [GETTY]

Upton Park legend Redknapp, below, who played for the club and managed them for seven years up to 2001, was last night installed as the bookies’ favourite to return, with Allardyce effectively given a few weeks to save his job.

Allardyce has been publicly backed by Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold and given the go-ahead to strengthen his squad. Wolves defender Roger Johnson has signed on loan – and will go straight into the line-up for

tomorrow’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg at Manchester City – with Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traore due to complete a similar deal from Monaco.

The Daily Express understands that Redknapp will be the chief contender if Allardyce fails to survive.

The 66-year-old is becoming disillusioned with QPR and would welcome a return to east London.

Redknapp laughs off West Ham rumours

Harry Redknapp says there is little chance of him returning to West Ham and claims he would rather stay at QPR.

Redknapp, a former player and manager at the east London club, has been installed as the favourite to replace under-pressure Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, with some bookmakers offering odds of 1/3.

“I wouldn’t take 33/1,” Redknapp insisted.

I don’t see that happening. They’ve got a good manager in Sam. I’m very happy to be managing QPR, very happy to be managing such a good club.”

Redknapp, who left West Ham in 2001, was barracked by the home fans at Upton Park when he took QPR there last season.

Steve Bull: Karl Henry should not have got involved in Wolves' Wayne Hennessey saga
Steve Bull today urged Wolves to put the Wayne Hennessey saga behind them and focus on promotion – as he branded Karl Henry “stupid” for getting involved.

Former Wolves captain Karl Henry should not have got involved in the Wayne Hennessey debate according to Wolves legend Steve Bull.

Keeper Hennessey’s refusal to play against Gillingham on Friday and subsequent apology have been aggravated by the tweet from ex-captain Henry attacking head coach Kenny Jackett’s role in the controversy.

Henry, now at Championship promotion challengers QPR, accused Jackett of treating the 26-year-old keeper “like s***”, although he subsequently deleted the comment.

Kary Henry's Wolves tweet
But legend Bully is anxious the club move on and focus on picking up their promotion form.

“Wayne was guilty of stupidity and probably a little bit of immaturity,” said Bull.

“Whether or not he is leaving, you have got to play for the club paying your wages. It’s as simple as that.

“You can’t spend your life as a footballer worrying about whether or not you will get injured. I’ve known lads get injuries stepping out of a car or getting out of bed."

Karl Henry in Twitter blast at Wolves boss Kenny Jackett over Wayne Hennessey
“Wayne got that wrong but it’s good that he has realised it and apologised. He’s now got a chance, whether it’s for a week, two weeks, a month or the rest of the season, to repair his reputation – because that has taken a battering among the fans.

“Karl has been just as stupid getting involved in Twitter. I know what that is – that’s Karl sticking up for an old mate. You understand that but he should not have got involved.

“I think he realised that which is why he deleted the comment. Like all Wolves fans, I just want a line drawn under all this and for the team to get on with the only thing that matters this season, promotion.”

In a follow-up meeting with Jackett yesterday, Hennessey conceded he had made a serious “error of judgement” in declining to play at Gillingham amid speculation of an imminent move to Crystal Palace.

And despite Henry’s tweet, there is no resentment by the goalkeeper towards the head coach in the way the controversy has been handled.

The Welsh international is now in the frame to play against Preston on Saturday but definitely out of the picture for the rest of the season is Roger Johnson.

The central defender yesterday clinched a return to the Premier League with a loan until
the end of the campaign with West Ham United. Johnson is not Cup tied and eligible to play in the club’s Carling Cup semi-finals against Manchester City
