QPR to engage fans in crest redesign

Thu, 2 Jan 2014 |

Championship football club Queens Park Rangers is looking to redesign its club crest following calls by club chairman Tony Fernandes to engage fans in a process that will replace the current logo, which has been unpopular among many fans.

The current logo was introduced by former QPR chairman Flavio Briatore at the end of the 2007/2008 season.

Fernandes became chairman in August 2011 and has tweeted, ‘I can confirm to all QPR fans that we will look at updating our badge for 2015 season.’

He added, ‘Feeling is it will be based on old logo. Will get all your views.’ Fernandes says the new logo design will be in place by the end of February.

The club has confirmed that this is accurate and that a redesign will take place following a period of engagement with fans but says a firm plan is not yet in place.

The club’s marketing department will manage any design development and the club says it does not yet know whether it will design in-house or work with consultancies.

In October last year Permier League club Everton chose a new crest after consulting with its fans following the redesign of this season’s badge, which had been designed in-house and met with criticism from some supporters.

Last year fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace introduced a new crest that was both chosen and designed by fans.

WARREN FARM - PLANNING PERMISSION

 2nd January 2014

Warren Farm deal signed with Ealing Council …

QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to announce a
development agreement for Warren Farm has been signed with Ealing
Council, meaning planning permission for the club’s new training complex
can now be issued.
Under the development
agreement, QPR will build a new multi-purpose community sports complex
and elite training facility, which will provide a base for the club’s
first team and academy, as well as give local people access to
high-quality community and sports facilities.
QPR
Chairman Tony Fernandes said: “We are committed to building the club in
the right way and putting in place the foundations for future success.
“The academy is an important part of this, and this agreement is the next step in strengthening the long term prospects of QPR.
“We
are delighted to partner Ealing Council and are particularly excited
about playing our part in providing fantastic new sporting facilities
for local residents, and to build on the excellent work of our Community
Trust to strengthen our ties with the community and provide
opportunities for all.”
The club’s new training
complex will bring together the academy with the first team. It will
provide state-of-the-art- facilities where our young players can
develop, and represents important progress for the club’s long-term
ambitions.
The improvements to the site will
also include enhanced football and cricket pitches, a new artificial
turf pitch and multi-games areas suitable for sports such as netball and
tennis. There will be a new changing block and facilities catering for
disabled users, as well as bookable community space in the new
clubhouse. Access to the site will also be improved, making it safer for
pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

A Community Sports Development Programme (CSDP) has also been drawn up as
part of the agreement, which will see QPR offer a range of sports
programmes for local people, as well as other opportunities to take part in community activities. The CSDP focuses on encouraging local people,
particularly young women, older people and people with disabilities, to
get involved in sport.
Councillor Julian Bell,
leader of Ealing Council, said: “Warren Farm is in dire need of
redevelopment, so it is fantastic that QPR has committed to such a huge
investment into the site.
“Signing this deal is
the next step towards bringing Warren Farm back into use and
transforming it into a thriving hub of community activity and sport.
“QPR’s plans have a strong focus on community involvement and I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together.”
The club aims to bring the new facilities into use in 2016.

Birthday - Ex-QPR Andy McCulloch - SIXTY FOUR
-
Andy McCulloch Turns 64. Born January 3, 1950.

Signed by Les Allen from non-league Walton and Hersham in October 1970. Made his QPR debut that same month - in the (recorded) televized game at home to Birmingham, which QPR won 5-2. McCulloch got the fifth goal. Rodney Marsh got a hattrick.

Team that day:
Parkes
Clement Hazell Watson Gillard
Ferguson Hunt Venables Morgan
Marsh McCulloch

Altogether played 42 games for QPR, scoring 10 goals. Was sold to Cardiff in October 1972 for 45,000 pounds (which was pretty good fee considering we'd just bough Stan Bowles the previous month for 110,000 pounds (and Don Givens in the summer for 35,000 pounds)

Became a fairly prolific goalscorer with Cardiff, Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford.
