A FORMER Football League and England under-21 goalkeeper is living a dream and pulling pints.
Stevenage Boro goalkeeper Chris Day, 33, of the Poplars, Stevenage, has taken over the tenancy of family friendly pub The Crooked Billet in Symonds Green with his wife Andrea, 30.
The former Watford and QPR keeper who has lived in the town for 12 years said it was always his plan to move into the industry.
"It's something we've always wanted and after doing some training in bar management we found out this pub was under offer," he said.
"Our first week has gone really well and I would love to see the place packed out in red and white shirts!"
Chris who plans to be a 'hands-on' landlord is a real ale and cooking enthusiast and hopes to spend some of his time in the kitchen creating some of the culinary delights he has put on the menu.
As well as a family bar and restaurant there is also a sports bar with Sky and Setanta Sports and in the future he plans to have signed memorabilia from local sporting heroes including Ashley Young, Ian Poulter and Lewis Hamilton hanging up in the sports bar.
He said: "Hopefully when our tenancy is up in five years, the brewery won't want to let us go because of what we have done here."
