Apologies in advance for reposting it; but when your boyhood hero posts on your blog - even if only to take exception to something said - well that's something to take note of - especially when he also, in passing, says something nice about the blog! [That March 1972 day when Marsh left QPR for Manchester City was at the time one of - if not the most - depressing days in QPR history!]
The sequence:
- Rodney Marsh posted on his personal blog on Tuesday a great, positive piece re QPR, "QPR's Year". .
-Marsh's piece was then posted on my blog - "Rodney Marsh on QPR's Prospects with my 'comment:' "Roddddd...neeee! - Although his comment about Gerry Francis...!"
- A link to Marsh's piece was again included in today's QPR Week in Review in which I characterized the Marsh piece as "Rodney Marsh looked at QPR's chances (and made a somewhat snide comment re Gerry Francis)." (Marsh had written one sentence "The closest QPR came was in the early nineties under Richard Thompson, but had the wrong manager in Gerry Francis !")
- Rodney Marsh Then posted a response on QPR Report
"Rod said...
Why is that a 'snide' comment about Gerry Francis ?! It is an honest straight forward opinion without bias in any way. I did not say Gerry did a bad job or that he was not worthy of being manager, my only comment was that at that time I thought he was not the right manager to take QPR to the next level.
I might add I played with Gerry when he was coming into the QPR team in the early 70's and was one of the most exciting young players in the country who never got anywhere near the praise he deserved.
By the way I read the site from time to time and really enjoy it. Is that a 'snide' remark !?
What is it with you people !? why do you always look at the negative in an innocent analytical comment" - QPR Report
Rodney Marsh's Original post Tuesday, 22 July 2008 QPR"s Year?
I remember with great fondness the days when we were a big team and the likes of the 'Great Scot', Dave MacKay kicking lumps off me.
For the first time in a long time I look at the super hoops and think to myself " This could be the start of something good " Looking back on the days when we were perenial winners, 3rd Division champions, promotion to the old first division in the following season, league cup final winners, I've not really had the sense that QPR were serious about being great again.
The closest QPR came was in the early nineties under Richard Thompson, but had the wrong manager in Gerry Francis !
Now, with a new ownership group and an optimism I've not seen for years QPR set off of what could be a season of destiny. Loftus Road used to be a fortress that people were not happy coming to and we have to get back to that.
Every game the midfield has to compete for possesion agressively and like always the team will only be as good as the goalscorers. At the start of each season Alec Stock used to predict how many goals each player in the squad would score and would have a goal to achieve at the end of the season. If we reached those targets we would be successful in his plan ! Of course it helps if one player can get 44 :) Marsh post
Postscript
Over the years, there has been a lot of messageboard debate: "Who was better Stan Bowles or Rodney Marsh." It's one of those futile - never to be proven debates - and the bottom line: Both were incredibly great players; and QPR was the better for having been graced by their presence. For anyone who actually saw Marsh play for QPR, there will always be a special warm sport in their heart for the player and the QPR he was part of at that time.

QPR's Ramage Looks Foward to the Season
-
QPR Official Site RAMAGE READY FOR W12
Defender Peter Ramage is already looking forward to making his debut at Loftus Road - and the summer signing will be hoping it arrives on Saturday against Chievo.
Iain Dowie has made no secret of the fact that he intends to play the same starting XI against the Italians as he will do seven days later when the R's kick off their Championship campaign at home to Barnsley.
Ramage told www.qpr.co.uk: "The game against Chievo will hopefully give me my first opportunity to play at Loftus Road, and I am really looking forward to it.
"The first time I have ever been to the stadium was when I went to sign for the Club in the summer!
"I really like the place because it's a traditional football stadium, where the fans are right on top of you.
"That's great, because it means the supporters have the potential to create a brilliant atmosphere - and I've been told that's exactly what they do.
"What we need to do is make sure that Loftus Road is a place that opposing teams don't look forward to visiting."
The 24-year-old - who was forced to sit out our 1-0 win over Northampton with a tight hamstring - joined Newcastle when he was just 11. When Kevin Keegan was unable to guarantee him a regular place in the side, Ramage decided the time was right to move on.
The Geordie admits it wasn't an easy decision to make.
"It was a big decision to leave Newcastle, having been there for so long," he explained. "But the lads here have been great in helping me settle in, and the management have been fantastic too.
"All I've ever known is Newcastle United, but I am 100 per cent sure that this was the right thing to do, and I've got no regrets or doubts about it whatsoever."
Following the appointment of Dowie as First Team Coach, Ramage got on the phone to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, who knows Dowie well from their time together at Southampton.
"Alan spoke very highly of him, and he was spot on in his assessment," said Ramage.
"The gaffer's training sessions are varied and he keeps them really interesting, which is so important.
"Each day you come away from the training ground feeling like you have really done something, or learned something."
The First Team are currently in Scotland and, having featured in the R's 2-0 defeat against Falkirk on Saturday afternoon - he came on for the injured Matt Connolly - Ramage believes the challenge of playing teams in the Scottish Premier League is great preparation for the new campaign, which is less than two weeks away.
He added: "Falkirk, and Kilmarnock, are in the SPL for a reason - because they are good-quality football teams. It's an excellent test for us to compete with these types of sides."
While not looking beyond Tuesday evening's encounter with Killie, Ramage is focused on being involved in that crucial starting line-up against Chievo on Saturday, where he will be aiming to show Rangers supporters what he is all about.
"The fans have been great so far," he added. "I didn't think there would be as many at our pre-season friendlies as there have been.
"I hope they can be as supportive through the season, which I am sure they will be."

Flashbacks: Walton and Camp Sign for QPR...Then QPR's Chairmen Caliendo was Speaking on QPR Matters
-
One year ago, considerable fan optimism as QPR were splashing the cash (by their standards) by signing two young players with some pedigree: Lee Camp and Simon Walton. Should be an interesting season for the two of them, as Camp fights for that #1 spot and Walton sees if he can get into the QPR squad. (He was previously signed by Dowie to Charlton). And two years ago, other issues. Puts everything into perspective after QPR's first pre-season defeat and the club's "failure," thus far, to sign any multi-million pound players!. [As an illustration of how far QPR have come, it's just under four years ago since QPR signed George Santos on a free and Santos played a short-term, crucial role for the club. Santos Remembered]
QPR OFFICIAL SITE - ADDICKS ACE SIGNS
QPR are delighted to announce the £200,000 signing of Charlton Athletic ace Simon Walton.
The 19-year-old midfielder has penned a three-year deal at Loftus Road and, in doing so, becomes John Gregory's seventh arrival of the summer, following in the footsteps of Chris Barker, Danny Nardiello, John Curtis, Michael Mancienne, Ben Sahar and Lee Camp.
"I'm glad it is all sorted out,'' Walton told www.qpr.co.uk. "I've already played five full games during pre-season with Charlton, so I feel fresh and I'm raring to go.
"I like to put my foot in as a player, and give my all for the team. I'd run through a brick wall if asked to.
"I might not play well every week, but I will always give 100 per cent. That's probably one of the main pluses of my game.
"Now I can't wait for the first game of the season against Bristol City on 11th August."
A product of the Leeds United academy, Walton made his professional debut at the tender age of 16.
He went on to make 37 appearances in all competitions for the Whites, before joining Charlton Athletic for a fee of £500,000 at the start of the 2006/07 season.
Iain Dowie's surprise early sacking at The Valley disrupted Walton's progress though, and he spent time on loan at Ipswich Town and Cardiff City.
The tough tackling midfielder, who can also play in defence, scored against the R's last season, in the Tractor Boys' 3-1 win at Loftus Road in August.
Gaffer John Gregory believes he can get the best out of a player once likened to Leeds United and England international David Batty, commenting: "Simon has been a victim of circumstance in the last 18 months or so.
"I think that we will benefit greatly from the fact that Iain Dowie signed Simon at Charlton and Alan Pardew's arrival has meant that Alan wants his own players in his team.
"Consequently, Simon has become surplus to his requirements.
"Simon is 19 years old but his presence on the field belies his age.
"I think he is going to quickly become a fans' favourite with his no-nonsense approach and 100% commitment to wearing the blue and white hooped shirt."
Walton will wear the No.19 shirt. QPR
CHARLTON OFFICIAL SITE - Walton joins QPR
Simon Walton has left The Valley to join Charlton's Championship neighbours Queens Park Rangers.
The versatile defender-cum-midfielder, who spent two spells away from SE7 on loan last term, has sealed a permanent £200,000 switch to Loftus Road.
Walton, 19, was the first signing of the Iain Dowie era last summer, but spent most of the campaign plying his trade for both Ipswich Town and Cardiff City in the second tier.
And he actually netted against the Hoops in the second match of his initial spell as a Tractor Boy, converting a 62nd-minute penalty as Ipswich came from behind to win 3-1 in West London.
Former boss Dowie initially paid Leeds United £500,000 for his services, though Walton spent time East Anglia and South Wales while the dramatic events unfolded at The Valley.
Having taken the plunge and moved south, the former England U19 international was a regular fixture in Charlton's pre-season campaign, but having played just five games for Leeds the previous campaign, a move to Ipswich Town was seen as a handy step in his route to the Addicks first team.
Immediately catching the eye for the Tractor Boys, his one-month loan was quickly extended to four months and Walton's arrival at Portman Road coincided with a five-match unbeaten run that saw him score two penalties as well as a deflected effort against Birmingham City.
Combative by nature, Walton's no-nonsense presence in the middle of the park saw him collect six yellow cards and a suspension before he was sent off in a 2-1 defeat at Derby County.
Such competitiveness is a trait that has followed Walton throughout his career from the moment he volunteered to take - and score - a penalty in his first Leeds United outing in pre-season, before being later dismissed for two bookings.
And he would go on to feature 38 times for Leeds, netting three goals until his Valley switch.
Meanwhile, after 19 appearances for Ipswich, Walton returned to The Valley and played his one and only reserve-team fixture, skippering the second string to a 1-0 reserve win at Chelsea on January 22nd....

His first ever senior appearance for the Elland Road outfit arrived against Spanish giants Valencia in a pre-season friendly in 2004, where he scored a penalty - and received his marching orders for two bookable offences!
Disciplinary problems hardly hindered the England Under-16 international's progress though, and in his first full season as a professional, he racked up an impressive 32 appearances in all competitions, weighing in with priceless goals against Reading, Preston North End and Cardiff City..... QPR

Lee Camp Signs for QPR
-QPR Official Site - EXCLUSIVE: CAMP PENS DEAL
The Club are delighted to announce the signing of England Under-21 goalkeeper Lee Camp from Derby County for a fee of £300,000.
After two successful loan spells with the R's, Camp, 22, has finally made his switch to W12 a permanent one, after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.
The transfer represents somewhat of a coup for gaffer John Gregory, who has always stated his intentions to reunite Camp with the current R's squad, with whom he made such a notable contribution during the latter stages of last season.
The Rangers manager said: "It feels like an absolute eternity since I started competing for the permanent transfer of Lee Camp.
"I have finally managed to get my number one priority of the summer in, and I couldn't be more delighted.
"For the first time as manager of QPR I have found myself in a position where I can pay a transfer fee.
"I have been given a small transfer kitty so I have to spend the money very wisely.
"Lee played an integral part in helping us maintain our Championship status last season. He is an outstanding goalkeeper and his arrival is a massive boost, not only to the squad but also to our supporters.
"Somehow we have managed to put together the £300,000 it has cost us in bringing Lee to Loftus Road, which has been paid directly by QPR and not by any other outside sources.
"When we sold Lee Cook, Chairman Gianni Paladini promised me there would be a percentage of Cookie's fee that I could spend in the market this summer, and he has been true to his word." Camp will wear the No.1 shirt.QPR

QPR Official Statement QPR Holding Chairman, Antonio Caliendo Statement re QPR Post-Dunga-
In the wake of widespread and further inaccurate reporting, Chairman of QPR Holdings Ltd, Antonio Caliendo, would like to issue the following statement:
"Despite Carlos Dunga tendering his resignation as a non-executive director on Tuesday, he will continue to support the Club financially.
"The Board's objective remains the same as it always has been - to get QPR back on a sound financial footing and in time, a return to the Premiership.
"I want to reassure the shareholders and supporters that we are doing everything possible to achieve that goal.
"We have invested wisely in the squad this summer and I believe we are in a fantastic position to challenge in the top half of the Championship.
"Last season was a very difficult time for the Board. Since September, we've put in over £4million to ensure the Club's finances are in a stable position to build for the future.
"As a Board, we aim to keep our promise of not selling our best players. Obviously there are certain clauses in players' contracts which means we have to allow them to speak to other Clubs, but our aim is the Premiership and to achieve this we need to keep all our best players.
"The Dan Shittu situation is a perfect example. The bottom line is that we want to keep Danny at the Club. He's a fantastic professional and a tremendous player, but if we receive a £3million bid then he has the freedom to talk to whoever comes in for him.
"We love Queens Park Rangers and we are doing everything possible to safeguard the prestige of this wonderful Club.
"Together, there is only one voice - We Are QPR.''
SkySport/Chris Stanton - July 27, 2006 - Paladini on Shittu & WBA:
Queens Park Rangers chairman Gianni Paladini has hinted that West Bromwich Albion are close to meeting his side's asking price for Danny Shittu.
Rangers have been vehement in their insistence on recouping a £3 million fee for Shittu this summer - a price stipulated in the player's contract.
Premiership new boys Watford fell short in their bid to land the 25-year-old Nigerian, who also interests Birmingham, but Paladini admits Championship side Albion could be about to succeed where The Hornets failed.
"This has taken so much of my time, it has to be finished off now," said Paladini.
"If we have to wait for the money in instalments, then that's fine, but I always said the fee would be £3 million.
"When you see other players of similar talent going for more, you realise that what we want for Danny is more than reasonable."

The Geat Stan Bowles Fondly Looks Back and Optimistically Looks Forward
-
BBC/Simon Watts: Legend bowled over by QPR changes
Bowles remembers his time at Loftus Road fondly
Times have changed dramatically at Queens Park Rangers over the last 12 months, and from Championship relegation fodder the club's new multi-millionaire owners are now talking of Champions League football within the next five years.
Under the leadership of motor racing magnates Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore and Lakshmi Mittal, the fourth richest man in the world, 'ambitious' would be something of an understatement of the club's future plans.
But while this may be unfamiliar territory to Rangers' younger generation, there are some who recall the club's halcyon days when the club were regularly crossing swords with English football's elite.
It is just 13 years since QPR finished eighth in the Premier League - a disappointing finish at the time for a side who ended the campaign previous in fifth (the highest-placed London club that season).
Relegation the following season (1996) ended their 13-year stay in the top flight, and QPR have not returned since.
But for the man who was voted the club's 'Cult Hero' in a BBC vote in 2004, those kind of misty-eyed moments may not be confined to the memory bank forever.
Stan Bowles made 250 appearances for Queens Park Rangers between 1972 and 1979, scoring 70 times, and wore the famous number 10 shirt that many felt irreplaceable following Rodney Marsh's departure to Manchester City. The Mancunian began his love affair with the West London club upon his arrival from Carlisle United.
Bowles is still mobbed by fans and it was no different on the Saturday morning he spoke to BBC London 94.9, upon the opening of Rangers' new-look Loftus Road superstore: "You couldn't really buy the times I had. I left every day, played here for nine years or something and I'm happy with that. They deserve the money, they have a short career.
"I had a long career funnily enough, people who come up to me even now and they say 'Ah yeah, you're the QPR man' but they forget I played for 17-and-a-half years. Even Nottingham Forest, the Champions League as it is now, they won twice. But people don't remember me for that, it's just QPR.
"But it's very nice, you've got to remember I've not played for getting on 27 years and the people still like me here. I got on well with the crowd and they liked me and everything. Some of the players now, as soon as they've finished, you've never heard of them again. I'm lucky."
So is life as fun for footballers nowadays?
"No I don't think so, with all the new rules and things like that. You could get away with murder in the old days. People like Ronnie Harris and Tommy Smith at Liverpool - they punched you, they kicked you. But there wasn't that many cameras there then, you got away with it. You had to sort it out after the game - not with Tommy Smith though, he knew a few faces."
Bowles' reputation as a maverick off the pitch further enhanced his popularity amongst football fans of his generation. He famously set the lowest-ever score on the popular TV series 'Superstars', admitting he treated it as 'a weekend out', and nearly caused a riot at Sunderland after aiming a shot, and successfully toppling the FA Cup for a bet days after the Mackems had won it at Wembley.
But on the subject of Queens Park Rangers' prospects on the pitch, he cuts a more serious figure: "A lot of work's been done on the ground and a lot of money's been pumped into it. Let's hope they can get together a side as good as the one I played in.
"I didn't realise quite how good our side was. It's just when I look back, they'll be very lucky to get a team like that.
"I know Iain [Dowie] very well because I was friends with him when he worked under Gerry Francis. They'll be a very fit side, that's for sure because he's really strong on that. They're favourites to win the league this year but I've not had a bet on them anyway - they'll probably win it now.
"The ground I think is 18,000 [capacity], they're going to have to move. It's going to be a shame to lose this ground because of its history, but they're going to have to really.
"The feeling I get from the new owners, I think they will [be a top-four side] - maybe not here, but when they move on. At the end of the day there's four teams competing in the Premier League right now, it's getting like Scotland and it's going to get worse than that. It's just money, money, money. Whoever's got the money are going to get the best sides obviously.
"If you were getting £20,000 and you get offered 60,000 you're going to take 60,000, aren't you? I was getting £600 a week." BBC

QPR Crash in Scotland - Reports and Dowie's Reaction...Connolly's Injury Appears Not Serous

QPR Official Site CONNOLLY NOT SERIOUS
Iain Dowie refused to be downbeat after seeing his R's side lose 2-0 at Falkirk this afternoon.
Two goals in as many first-half minutes did the damage at the Falkirk Stadium, and the Rangers First Team Coach conceded: "They started a lot better than we did, and I was disappointed with both of their goals from our perspective.
"But we had a good chat at half-time and I thought we were much better in the second half.
"Unfortunately, we had problems with the radios we were using, and I was unable to get my message across from where I was watching the match up in the stands. I wanted us to push up more, and be more offensive.
"Credit to Falkirk, they played very well but there were certainly parts of our performance I was pleased with; we challenged and won the ball high up the pitch and, as I say, we looked better after the break."
Of greater concern to Dowie would have been the injury sustained by Matt Connolly, resulting in the full-back being stretchered off in the second half.
"Matt has rolled his ankle but it doesn't look too serious, thankfully" revealed Dowie. "At this stage, there certainly doesn't seem to be any suggestion of a break, but we will need to wait for the results of a scan before we know for sure."
What did please Dowie was the continued development of his back four, which limited Falkirk following the two goals.
"As a unit our defence looks very solid," he said. "Aside from the goals, Falkirk didn't create anything, and Lee Camp didn't have anything to do.
"And both goals didn't actually have anything to do with the defence - the first one, one of our lads let the runner go, and the second one from the corner, again one of our lads lost his man on the edge of the box.
"But you learn a lot from matches like this."QPR
Falkirk Herald/Julian Peck - Falkirk deserve victory over QPR
FALKIRK 2 D. Stewart 15 (og), J. Stewart 17 QPR 0 (HT 2-0)
The first team's third pre-season friendly saw a Stewart 'double' in the opening half put the Bairns on easy street against their Championship opponents.
QPR's Damion Stewart was first up, having the misfortune to bundle the ball into his own net while under pressure from Michael Higdon.
Neil McCann and Gerard Aafjes can claim a lot of the credit, though. The former playing a superb defence-splitting pass to the Dutch defender, whose low drive across goal gave Rangers' Jamaican internationalist little chance of a clearance.
Two minutes later his namesake - John Stewart - took all the plaudits himself with a blistering first-time volley, from at least 15 yards out, after connecting with McCann's corner on the left.
"Results are not a concern at this time of the year," said Hughes. "It's not about winning or losing, rather how sharp the players are.
"I asked them to go up a gear after the Ross County game last week and they did that.
"Now we will look forward to our trip to Holland and that's where I'll be wanting the players to peak.
"It's all about being ready for Rangers on the first game of the season in two weeks time."
Falkirk, however, did look pretty decent against one of the club's tipped for promotion to the English Premier League, and now owned by billionaire Formula One rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, the principal at the Renault F1 team.
QPR, for their part, only produced a wild shot over by Emmanuel J Ledesma early on and were largely chasing shadows as the Bairns produced some wonderful football.
In the 23rd minute that was summed up when McCann, Higdon and Stewart queued up to get on the end of Scott Arfield's clever chip into the box but were left wanting after a last-gasp clearance from the Rangers defence.
Damien Delaney then had a half chance to get one back for the visitors but hit wide of the upright from six yards following a corner kick.
But their apparent lack of urgency, or inability to match Falkirk's smart passing game, kept shots to an absolute minimum.
The next, and only other of the first half, was another from Ledesma that, again, blazed over the cross bar.
After the break, QPR goalkeeper Lee Camp held Michael Higdon's 20-yard piledriver and, at the other end, Martin Rowlands tried his luck from a similar range but watched the ball fly wide.
John Stewart may have been awarded a penalty in the 67th minute after a strong tackle in the box by Damion Stewart but referee Mike McCurry waved play on.
Other than that, goal action was few and far between or, rather, virtually non-existent as both Hughes and Ian Dowie made a flurry of substitutions throughout a flat second half.
Yet, despite the Falkirk manager playing down the final result, it was, probably, a deserved one. For the decent number of travelling supporters? Fairly uninspiring.
Next up for the Bairns, one day prior to flying out to Holland, is a game against Alloa, at Westfield, on Monday night (7.30 p.m.).

FALKIRK 2 QPR 0 ...Falkirk's first-half superiority sets up a deserved victory thanks to an own goal and John Stewart's super volley.
There was little doubt that Queens Park Rangers were going to provide the stiffest test of the pre-season fixtures for the Bairns and it was reflected as John Hughes selected a strong Falkirk line-up but missed Carl Finnigan who was injured against Berwick Rangers. John Stewart’s goal against the Borderers won him a starting place up front.
Some neat passing movements by both sides impressed the crowd in the early stages before the game was broken up by a clumsy Blackstock challenge on Cregg. The first real chance fell to Rangers Ledesma but his long range drive flew well wide of the target.
Neil McCann was impressive in Falkirk’s midfield and two moments of magic from the winger sent the Bairns into a shock 2-0 lead. In 15 minutes, his slide-rule pass sent the overlapping Aafjes hurtling in the box and from the full-back’s low cross DAMION STEWART had the misfortune to turn the effort into his own net from the six yards. Two minutes later, an identical move saw Aafjes win a corner this time and from the kick, McCann’s accurate cross fell perfectly for JOHN STEWART to volley a superb low drive wide of Lee Camp from 10 yards distance.
The visitors looked stunned by the turnaround and Connolly flew in late on McNamara on the right to earn a quick word from Mike McCurry.
Stewart sent a ball flashing across the QPR box in 22 minutes to cause more problems and Delaney was relieved to hook a clearance away. Falkirk were well in control with the visitors still test Olejnik at this stage.
Aafjes caught a bad one on the shin from Ledesma on the half-hour mark but limped back into the action after treatment. Ledesma was a involved again as he tried to rally the visitors with a neat dribble on the edge of the box but his parting shot flashed well wide of Olejnik’s left-hand upright. On the stroke of half-time, Ephraim constructed a chance from almost on the bye-line but Olejnik carefully pushed his shot behind at his post.
Half-time : FALKIRK 2 QPR 0
The Londoners looked more committed as the half began but found it difficult to make an impression on a stuffy Falkirk rearguard superbly marshalled by Bullen and Barr.
Stewart was tripped as he intercepted a pass meant for his namesake, Damion, but the Referee allowed play to continue for Michael Higdon to thump a shot at Camp from 25 yards which was east meat for the ‘keeper.
Gavin Mahon strode into the Falkirk box on the end of Patrick Agyemang’s pass in 49 minutes and only a timely block from Lee Bullen prevented the midfielder from shooting home. More neat control from Rowland two minutes later won him space to fire in a drive from the edge of the box but it was a foot wide of the post.
Barrett and Connolly collided in 53 minutes and the unfortunate QPR defender had to be stretchered off and replaced by former Newcastle United defender Peter Ramage.
A breakaway by John Stewart in 63 minutes had the QPR rearguard back peddling but a strong challenge by Damion Stewart just inside the box prevented the striker from getting his shot in, despite some impassioned pleas from the local fans for a penalty kick.
Rangers continued to battle and Darren Barr was fortunate to avoid a yellow card for chopping down Ainsworth in full-flight as the substitute sped past him on the left.
Lee Bullen went down injured as the clock ticked on, the ball hammering off what could be described as his lower midriff. The game was all but over at this stage and Falkirk simply played out time to record a fine win over their rather lacklustre opponents.

John Stewart boosted his bid to rescue his Falkirk career by volleying home as the Bairns saw off their Coca-Cola Championship visitors.
The striker, who spent last season on loan to St Johnstone and Queen of the South, converted Neil McCann's corner a minute after Damion Stewart had turned a Gerard Aafjes cross into his own net.
Falkirk could not add to their early goals despite dominating first-half possession but QPR improved after the break.
However, the west London side suffered a major fitness concern when Matt Connolly was carried off with a suspected ankle injury. Sporting Life
QPR Official Site - FALKIRK 2-0 QPR
Iain Dowie suffered his first defeat as R's manager this afternoon, as he saw his side lose 2-0 at Scottish Premier League outfit Falkirk.
Two goals in as many minutes mid-way through the first half ultimately decided this contest, but what will be of greater concern to the QPR First Team Coach was the injury sustained by Matt Connolly in the second half, which resulted in him being stretchered off.
Damion Stewart netted an unfortunate own goal before Falkirk forward John Stewart volleyed home a second, just seconds later. In the end it proved to big a mountain to climb for the R's.
Dowie named a strong starting line-up for the game, and it seems quite clear which players he is intending to start with against Barnsley in a fortnight, based on the amount of match time certain players have had during the pre-season campaign so far.
With Lee Camp in goal, Dowie kept with the same back four that started against Northampton on Wednesday, meaning Peter Ramage - who sat out the fixture at Sixfields with a hamstring injury - had to make do with a place on the bench.
The only change to the midfield quartet was the introduction of Hogan Ephraim, at the expense of Matteo Alberti. Dowie gave Emmanuel Ledesma the opportunity to play on the right, his favoured position, while Martin Rowlands and Gavin Mahon continued in the centre.
Dexter Blackstock once again partnered Patrick Agyemang in attack, as they lined up against a strong Falkirk side which included three summer signings Jackie McNamara, Lee Bullen and Neil McCann.
After a tight opening ten minutes, it was QPR who created the first opportunity.
Following an excellent passing move involving Rowlands, Damien Delaney and Dexter Blackstock, the latter set-up Ledesma but his shot from the edge of the box flew high and wide.
But five minutes later it was Falkirk who drew first blood as they took the lead thanks to an unfortunate Stewart own goal.
Neil McCann picked the ball up in the middle of the park and played a delightful through-ball for left winger Gerard Aafjes to race onto, and his low-driven cross was met by Stewart who, in trying to cut out the delivery, smashed the ball beyond Camp at the near post.
Things got worse for the R's two minutes later when the hosts doubled their advantage after McCann's corner from the left was volleyed home by John Stewart from ten yards out.
The visitors had to cope with a period of sustained Falkirk possession following the quick-fire goals, but to their credit, the R's restricted their Scottish opponents.
And Dowie's men almost reduced the deficit on 25 minutes when, after a goal-mouth scramble, the ball fell to Damien Delaney, but his snap-shot from 12 yards flew wide of the near post.
Ledesma saw another shot fly a yard over, but just before the break, Hogan Ephraim forced Robert Olejnik into his first save of the game.
Gavin Mahon had picked out Ledesma with a neat through ball, and the latter fed Ephraim, who had switched momentarily to the right.
His cross/shot was tipped around the post by the Falkirk stopper, and that in fact was the first save either keeper had to make in the opening 45 minutes.
The 2-0 half-time scoreline certainly wasn't a fair reflection on the match, but the R's knew they would need to up the ante in the second period if they were to get themselves back into this game.
Matteo Alberti was brought on at the break for Hogan Ephraim. And it seemed whatever Dowie said during the interval had its desired effect, as the tempo was upped by the R's immediately, summed up with Mahon's hard-hitting tackle in the opening seconds of the half.
Moments later, a sweeping passing move involving Mahon and Agyemang saw the former break into the Falkirk box, but his shot was blocked and the danger was cleared.
Now in the ascendancy, Rowlands also went close with a powerful drive from 20 yards. Olejnik was flat-footed and could only watch as the ball whizzed a foot wide of his upright.
But on 55 minutes the R's suffered a huge blow when Connolly - who had once again been excellent, following a superb performance at Northampton - was stretchered off with what looked to be an ankle injury.
He was replaced by Peter Ramage, and Dowie will hope the injury sustained by the former Arsenal man isn't as serious as it initially appears.
Blackstock nearly broke beyond the Falkirk rearguard, but was denied by an excellent challenge from Darren Barr.
At the other end, John Stewart went close for the hosts, but was smothered out by a combination of his namesake Damion, and Camp.
The tempo of the game dropped off in the closing stages of the match, and Dowie will no doubt have left the Falkirk Stadium thinking more about Connolly's injury than about the 2-0 loss, although he will surely be after a better performance when his side travel to Kilmarnock on Tuesday evening.
Falkirk: Robert Olejnik, Jackie McNamara, Darren Barr, Lee Bullen, Gerard Aafjes, Patrick Cregg (Kevin McBride, 83), Scott Arfield (Stewart Murdoch, 83), Neil McCann, Graham Barrett (Kevin Moffat, 84), John Stewart (Russell Latapy, 76) Michael Higdon.

"And both goals didn't actually have anything to do with the defence - the first one, one of our lads let the runner go, and the second one from the corner, again one of our lads lost his man on the edge of the box.
"But you learn a lot from matches like this."QPR

Eurosport.yahoo.com continues its countdown to the Championship season with a look at moneyed contenders Queens Park Rangers.
Last 10 seasons in the Championship (2007/08 to 1998/99): 20/10/23/-/-/-/11/21/18/14
POSSIBLE STARTING XI (new signings in bold):
Radek Cerny
Peter Ramage - Fitz Hall - Damion Stewart - Damien Delaney
Emmanuel Jorge Ledesma - Mikele Leigertwood - Martin Rowlands - Hogan Ephraim
Patrick Agyemang - Dexter Blackstock
BACK-UPS FROM:
Lee Camp
Matthew Connolly - Zesh Rehman - Chris Barker
Gareth Ainsworth - Adam Bolder - Simon Walton - Angelo Balanta
Daniel Nardiello - Samuel Di Carmine - Rowan Vine
POSITIVES:
Well, let's get it out of the way: QPR HAVE MONEY. Lots of it. But, while spending more than most of their rivals, they are seeking to invest in the right way. Radek Cerny, Peter Ramage, Emmanuel Jorge Ledesma and Samuel Di Carmine are perhaps not the names the fans had in mind when the new owners homed into view, but these signings could be what they need if they are to get out of this division. More ambitious would be Real Madrid full-back Michel Salgado, should his claims of an approach be true, although that seems to have died a death. Crystal Palace midfield star Ben Watson and Blackpool defender Kaspars Gorkss could also arrive before the new campaign. Patrick Agyemang, Dexter Blackstock and Rowan Vine have goals in them at this level while Mikele Leigertwood, captain Martin Rowlands and the skilful Hogan Ephraim make up an impressive midfield.
NEGATIVES:
Although stability has been found in the four years since Rangers earned promotion back to the second tier, they have so far failed to come close to mounting a serious promotion bid. New manager Iain Dowie's task will be to do just that this season, with previous boss Luigi De Canio an example of how modest success will no longer cut it - can he take the pressure?
VERDICT:
A lot rests on the boss: having started with distinction at Palace, Dowie's stock has fallen somewhat since. Plenty of people will be keen to see how he fares at Loftus Road - this time, unlike at Coventry, he has money to play with. It could be a good season for Rangers fans, with new signings complementing an existing solid frame of a team; at the very least a play-off bid will be expected, and that ought to be the case come the end of the season. The top two spots may prove beyond them just yet though. Eurosport

FALKIRK Official Site- PREVIEW QPR SET TO TEST BAIRNS
Falkirk face a much stiffer pre-season test on Saturday when they face Ian Dowie’s Championship side, Queens Park Rangers, at the Stadium. Rangers have had new blood pumped into them via an ownership change and they will present formidable opposition for the Bairns.
Boss John Hughes realises they will be a stern test, “This match provides us with another step up in our preparations and the game will be a tough 90 minutes for my team. The pre-season programme is going to plan and the new players have integrated well within the squad. We are now looking to transform that into good performances which in turn will generate good results.”
Hughes was concious of the need to peak at the right time for the SPL campaign, “Pre season games are all about fitness levels and getting the match sharpness right in time for the game against Rangers in two weeks. I’m hoping for a good turnout, with the fans giving the boys strong encouragement against Queens Park Rangers.”
Injuries have plagued the camp since the return to training this season but Hughes reamained calm and focussed. “ The injuries to most of the players are not really serious but more of a niggle. It will be touch and go tomorrow for some of those who haven’t featured but there is no way I’ll chance anything if they’re not match fit and risk something more serious.”
Hughes added, “I’ll wait until the last minute before I make any decisions on the starting eleven.”
Falkirk have met QPR twice in friendlies at Brockville – firstly in 1984 when Alan McGonigal cancelled out Clive Allen’s strike in a 1-1 draw, followed by an encounter in 1989 when a strong Rangers team, which included David Seaman and our own Andy Gray, won by 2-0.
Mike McCurry will take charge of the game which has 3 p.m. kick-off. Fans should note it is pay-at-the-gate. Falkirk

QPR - HAYES & YEADING 2-1 QPR RESERVES
A young QPR Reserve side went down 2-1 at Hayes & Yeading this evening, as the hosts grabbed two late goals to turn defeat into victory.
In a closely-fought first half, both sides had chances to take the lead. The R's were guilty of missing a couple of opportunities, while at the other end Hoops keeper Nicky Bulmer pulled off some excellent stops to keep Hayes & Yeading at bay, with a notably good double save.
Level at the break, it was the visitors who eventually broke the deadlock on the hour mark. Chris Arthur did well to create space down the left wing before picking out Christian Nanetti at the far post, and the young winger coolly slotted home after quickly bringing the ball under control.
The R's failed to build on that advantage, however, and instead sat back, inviting their hosts to come forward. And that's exactly what Hayes & Yeading did.
It looked as though QPR would emerge from the game victorious, however, when their Blue Square South Division opponents failed to find a way through. But two goals in the closing five minutes turned this match on its head, and it was Hayes & Yeading who nicked the victory.
In the absence of Gareth Ainsworth - who is with the first team squad in Scotland - coach David Rouse took charge of the side, and he told www.qpr.co.uk: "In the first half we had a number of good chances, and we should have done better.
"The final ball let us down. Having said that, Nicky Bulmer was excellent for us at the other end.
"After our goal, we sat back. It was a lesson for the younger lads in how to kill a game off.
"You could see that as the match wore on, Hayes & Yeading were probably going to nick something. And that's what they did.
"But this was a good exercise for our players, and they will have certainly learned from it."

Rangers' Under-18's travelled to Cobham this afternoon for their second pre-season friendly, and came away with a performance and result to be proud of, according to manager Steve Brown.
Missing Antonio German and Christian Nanetti, who were called up to the Reserves for their friendly at Hayes & Yeading, Brown's side could have considered themselves short of firepower against their Premier League opponents.
However, Danny Fernandez (2) and Javonne Molloy stepped up to the mark, scoring the goals that resulted in a share of the spoils.
Despite Chelsea having the lion's share of possession in the first half, it was Rangers who reached the half-time interval with a narrow advantage.
Andrew Perring's persistence on the touchline led to him pulling the ball back for Fernandez, who applied the finishing touch with ease.
Rangers could easily have doubled or even trebled their lead in the first period, twice catching Chelsea with swift counter attacks.
The first came when full back Aaron Waters broke into the home team's penalty area before firing a shot across goal. Unfortunately, his effort hit the far post and rebounded into the keeper's hands.
Shortly afterwards, Molloy broke through but took his shot too early, resulting in an easy save by the home keeper.
The second half began with Chelsea continuing to have more of the ball, and they finally made their possession count just after the hour mark when they grabbed an equaliser.
The R's battled back, however, and Waters again found himself in the thick of the action, setting up Fernandez for Rangers' second goal. The striker turned brilliantly under pressure before firing home for his brace.
With 20 minutes to go, the home side made a series of changes, and the introduction of fresh players turned the game in Chelsea's favour. With ten minutes remaining, they equalised for the second time before taking the lead on 85 minutes.
Brown's side were not to be beaten though, and Molloy struck in the final minute with a decisive finish to earn his side a deserved draw.
Brown was delighted with his team's performance, especially after their defeat against Aston Villa six days earlier.
"The boys responded well," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "They were all disappointed after last week's showing and we've worked hard this week on the areas that let us down against Villa. That paid off today.
"Sides like Chelsea are always going to have a lot of the ball, and we must learn to be patient and make the most of opportunities when we get them."
Brown also felt his side were unlucky to only be one up at half time, adding: "We had two excellent breaks, and should really have capitalised on one, if not both of them." QPR

Flashback Three Years:
July 26, 2005: QPR OFFICIAL SITE MATCH REPORT: QPR 0 CHARLTON 3
A Darren Bent hat-trick was the undoing of Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road this evening. The former Ipswich striker netted twice in the first half before converting a penalty with ten minutes to go to complete his own personal milestone. But in truth, Charlton were the better side all over the pitch and thoroughly deserved a comfortable pre-season victory.Ian Holloway will be happy for the opportunity to give a large proportion of his squad a good run out against Premiership opposition and he will doubtless have learned from the experience.
Holloway gave a run out to Ugo Ukah, Dominic Shimmin and the well again Marc Bircham.Between the sticks, Jake Cole was given a rare start against Simon Royce's former club after the stopper suffered a back problem last week.
It was Georges Santos playing up front who had Rangers' first effort on goal. Making his way into the box, he squeezed the ball round Stephen Andersen in the Charlton goal and picked it up on the other side. With a dink towards goal, Santos' effort was goalbound but for the last ditch clearance from Jonathan Spector. But it was the Addicks who took the lead when a fine passing move between Danny Murphy and Dennis Rommedahl finished with Darren Bent shooting from the edge of the box and landing in the opposite corner of the net.
Up the other end of the park, Aaron Brown was trying to get Rangers back on level terms, but his shot blazed over the bar.Charlton were not content with sitting on their lead and were still pushing on up front. Danny Murphy hit a vicious volley just wide of the target after 20 minutes as the Addicks looked to extend their lead.Three minutes later, Murphy dispossessed Martin Rowlands in midfield and tried an audacious lob from 35 yards that sailed over a relieved Jake Cole's cross bar.Charlton doubled their lead three minutes before the break when Rommedahl's ball across the face of goal was met by Bent. From a tight angle, he fired the ball goalwards and the ball ricocheted off the unfortunate Cole before looping over the goal line.
Ian Holloway made multiple changes in the second half in a bid to see as much of his squad as possible.Rommedahl got the second half off to yet another attacking start, bending his effort in towards goal from the right wing but just missing the target.
Dan Shittu then had the fans in the lower Loft ducking for cover when he sent in a venomous 35 yard effort that crashed back off the cross bar.Charlton nearly added to their lead with 18 minutes to go when Bent's cross was met by a rising first time effort from Rommedahl. But substitute keeper, Wayne Henderson got a hand to it and deflected the ball onto the cross bar when it appeared destined for the back of the net.Charlton were then given the chance to extend their lead further when Marcus Bent stepped up to the penalty spot after Marcus Bignot fouled Spector in the area.Bent was not going to be denied his hat-trick and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. There was no coming back from this scoreline for Rangers, but the run out for the majority of Holloway's squad will no doubt have served it's purpose two weeks before the Championship season starts.

CHELSEA OFFICIAL SITE REPORT - CHELSEA U18 3 QUEENS PARK RANGERS U18 3
P Chelsea's Under 18 side put on an impressive display today as they hosted Queens Park Rangers for a six-goal thriller.
Goals from Jordan Hibbert and Frank Nouble saw the Blues come back from behind before relinquishing the lead in the dying seconds.
Youth team manager Paul Clement was away for tomorrow's reserve game in Torquay so assistant academy manager Dermot Drummy took up his role on the touchlines for the Under 18's pre-season friendly.
There were new arrivals in the side as Rowen Ince and Milan Lalkovich moved up from the Under 16s to gain some experience with the older age group, while Vincenzo Camilleri played his first game after arriving from Italy.
Pirez played up front with the number 9 shirt as he took part in a trial for the Blues, and Sedek and Aldi Haxhia both made appearances between the posts.
Jack Haydon and Conor Clifford also made their maiden appearances with some strong defensive displays in the right-back and central midfield positions respectively.
The game began in Chelsea's favour as Fabio Borini paired up well with Billy Joe King on the left to collect some dangerous balls on the edge of the box.
It took 10 minutes before the first shot on QPR's goal when Hibbert struck a crisp chance from 18 yards, only for Elvins to collect between the opposition's posts.
Tabor continued to send balls into the box from the left flank as Nouble, Hibbert and Saville all attempted to attach themselves to the crosses.
But it was the visitors who would take the lead when Jevonne Malloy latched onto a pass across the face of goal to knock it beyond the reach of Sebek and into the bottom right after 12 minutes.
Chelsea retaliated immediately with Nouble skimming the post twice before Clifford surprised everyone with a 35 yard shot that sent Elvins scrambling back to his line.
Borini then began to prove his ability as he danced around the defence and into the danger zone several times, only just missing out on the final pass to either Nouble or Pirez, who always seemed a few inches short of the mark.
As the first half drew to a close it was Chelsea who were controlling the game, and, with a little fine tuning, an equaliser seemed inevitable.
Haxhia came on to replace Sedek between the posts while Jack Haydon came on for Pirez. Borini then moved up beyond Nouble who took the attacking role while Ahmed moved up alongside Hibbert to allow Haydon a place in the backline.
This meant the Blues took up a 4-4-2 formation with Clifford just hanging back behind the other three midfielders.
The change allowed Nouble and Borini to attack more and it wasn't long before they were troubling the QPR keeper with several shots that flew only inches wide.
It was then time for the two Under 16s to join the ranks, so Clifford gave way to Ince while Nouble came off for Lalkovich while Borini led the attack.
It didn't take long for the equaliser to arrive when Ahmed sent a clever cross into the path of Hibbert who smashed the ball into the bottom right in the 77th minute.
Nouble then returned to the line-up as Tabor came off from the left wing and Camilleri was replaced by Clifford. The Blues took up a three at the back formation with Clifford just in front.
Within five minutes of the change the Blues were behind once more when King was beaten to the ball by Malloy who dribbled into the box before squeezing the ball past Haxhia. But Chelsea still controlled the possession, and Lalkovich soon shone with some defence-splitting runs down the right.
It was Lalkovich's successful pairing with Ahmed that set up Chelsea's second goal when the Under 16 chipped the ball over the top of two defenders before sending a cross back toward Ahmed in front of goal, forcing a QPR centre-back to put the ball into his own net. Seconds after the restart Ahmed and Lalkovich were at it again, and, with a move almost identical to the second goal, Lalkovich sent a ball bouncing into the path of Nouble who calmly tipped it beyond the line.
The score was now 3-2 and there was only seconds left on the clock, but QPR were not finished.
Malloy managed to break down the right from the kick off and get himself in a dangerous position in the box before sending the ball into the bottom left of the goal, the game finished 3-3.
'It was very pleasing, my main observation of the boys today was when they got tired they showed the determination to work through it,' explained Drummy.
'The new boys impressed us as well.
'So I am very pleased, because we were trailing and then we showed the determination to get in front in the end.
'But sometimes we fell asleep, that's a development we will work on. We have to except it and push the boys on.'
Chelsea (4-2-1-3): Sedek (Aldi Haxhia 45); Nikki Ahmed, Vincenzo Camilleri, Jack Saville, Billy Joe King; Conor Clifford (Rowen Ince 60), Jordan Hibbert; Fabio Borini; Frank Nouble (Milan Lalkovich 60), Pirez (Jack Haydon 60); Jordan Tabor.

From Queen's Park Rangers to Queens Park Rangers
-
Update: Just to note that the two books on QPR by "Club Historian," Gordon Macey are entitled: "The Official History of Queen's Park Rangers" and "Queen's Park Rangers: A Complete Record."
Over the years, Queen's Park Rangers has "evolved" into Queens Park Rangers.
Old QPR programmes from the 1960s (and here and here - and the 1967 League Cup Final programme itself, and photos etc call the club QUEEN'S Park Rangers. At some point not long after, the club seems to have officially become QUEENS Park Ranger (without the apostrophe). An early 1970s programme.
The Official Site's "Potted History of QPR" doesn't mentio this. It begins:
"Queens Park Rangers were formed in 1882 by the old boys of Droop Street Board School.
The boys were members of the St Jude's Institute as they used this as the club headquarters, and in the early days were known as St Judes.
They obtained the name of Queens Park Rangers when they merged with a team called Christchurch Rangers in 1886. They called themselves Queens Park Rangers because most of the players came from the district of Queens Park..." QPR official site

Assessing QPR After Northampton...Recalling QPR's Italy Tour...Where Are They Now? Armel Tchakounte
-
Dave McIntyre/BBC 606 - Winging it
Emmanuel Ledesma’s cross for Dexter Blackstock to score the winner at Northampton could be a sign of things to come.
After featuring in central midfield at Stevenage on Saturday, Ledesma played out wide in last night’s game – and that’s where he will play from now on.
Blackstock's header gave Rangers a 1-0 win but more importantly, the match was another chance to look at Ledesma and Matteo Alberti.
Both summer signings played the majority of the match and striker Samuel Di Carmine came on as a second-half substitute.
Alberti looked exciting at times and showed he can pick a pass as well as run at defenders, while Ledesma showed some promise too.
Ledesma spent most of the game on the left but drifted over to the right to deliver a perfect cross for Blackstock’s goal.
He was later switched to the right flank – a position he apparently likes to play in despite being left footed.
It’s impossible to assess Ledesma properly at this stage, but what is obvious is that a big feature of his game is an ability to drift into holes and find space. He is very difficult to pick up.
Playing on the left allows him to wander inside and find space and when he plays on the right, he enjoys cutting in and shooting or delivering a cross.
It was clear from speaking to Iain Dowie after the game that he has definitely decided Ledesma will operate out wide rather than in the middle.
We won’t know until they play in competitive matches whether Ledesma and Alberti have enough about them going forward to compensate for potentially being quite easily picked off defensively in the Championship.
Dowie isn’t too concerned about that and is very much focused on creativity.
Personally, that’s exactly what I want to hear from a QPR manager.
I was also pleased to see a good performance from Matt Connolly at right-back.
Connolly played the whole match - partly because Peter Ramage has a slight hamstring problem - and did well. I like him and hope he'll feature a lot this season and beyond, regardless of who else comes in.
Next to Scotland, where Rangers will be playing Falkirk and Kilmarnock and training at a plush university campus.
I’ve heard Kaspars Gorkss will be giving a seminar on effective release clauses while he’s there. BBC 606
Next Match: QPR at Falkirk July 26. Ticket Details
Flashback two years: QPR's Italian Tour - While on tour, QPR's investor and Director, Dunga, left to manage Brazil.
Armel Tchakounte: QPR signed Cameroon Midfielder Armel Tchakounte in May 2006 - Gary Waddock's first signing. Tchakounte spent a year at QPR without playing a league game; and then QPR released him. After QPR, he seems to have vanished from football - even at a non-league level. Maybe he went abroad, but if so, unclear where.

QPR Official Site KIT OF ALRIGHT!
Queens Park Rangers Football Club are delighted to unveil our new away kit.
The second strip, which will be worn by the R's First Team for our upcoming pre-season friendlies at Falkirk and Kilmarnock, completes the brand-new collection of Lotto Sport Italia kit, following the recent unveiling of our home and third strips.
It has proved to be an instant hit with the QPR players. Martin Rowlands told www.qpr.co.uk: "Once again, Lotto have done a fantastic job with this strip.
"It looks really modern, and is a great design.
"I am sure everyone will agree that the presence of Gulf Air as our main shirt sponsor adds real class to it.
"Hopefully it will prove to be a successful kit for the Club.
"All the players will be working very hard throughout the up-coming season to try and make sure that's the case."
Pictured modelling the shirt is QPR Ladies midfielder Hannah Curnow, who is also impressed with the design.
"It's really different to anything we've had before, and I think it looks brilliant," she said.
"I'm a big fan of the new crest, and I like the way it is right at the centre of the shirt."

No! Real Madrid's Salgado NOT Coming to QPR
-
SportsYA -Salgado aims to end career at Real Madrid
Real Madrid right-back ruled out any chance of moving to Queen's Park Rangers because he wants to retire at the Spanish La Liga team.
After a business lunch he had in Vigo with Queen's Park Rangers new owners Flavio Briatore and Alejandro Agag, Michel Salgado ruled out any chance of leaving Real Madrid CF.
"I had lunch with two friends, and we talked about a thousand things. They told me about the project, and it's beautiful, but nothing more. I didn't think of moving because I'm happy where I am, I want to retire at Real Madrid unless I have some other projects not related to soccer", Salgado said.
"I'm not thinking about moving to England. I started this season at Real Madrid to be in shape and get tenth UEFA Champions League in addition to any other local league", he added. SportsYa
Goal.com Salgado: I Hope Robinho Is Happy
Real Madrid stopper Michel Salgado has weighed in on the issue of Robinho, stating that it is for the best for all concerned if the player can find his happiness...
....As for himself, Salgado admitted that more could be done from his point of view.
"I'm not happy with last season because they say I didn't reach the level of other years," he muttered.
"I didn't come here just to pass time: I want to play more, and I'd also like to help the youngsters integrate and improve on last year.
"But I liked the Salgado of last year. Physically I feel well: mentally there are things to regret, but I'm my best psychologist and thus there are no problems.
"Queens Park Rangers? I decided that I'll be ready to retire here instead." Steve Michaels, Goal.com

Redknapp on QPR Cranie Interest...Watson to Someone...Dowie Wants One or Two....Nardiello's Exit...Shimmin at St.Mirren...Ex-QPR Loan Jarret
-
As quoted here on Fansonline. Not sure where Redknapp supposedly made this comment
Cranie – Redknapp Admits Interest By Trevor Hill
"With Alan Pardew looking for replacements to his squad following several summer departures, a loan move for Portsmouth defender Martin Cranie is looking increasingly likely. It is understood that Pardew wants at least two more defenders and Cranie fits the bill for one of them.
However, Cranie, who spent time at QPR on loan from Portsmouth lasts season, is also being sought by the Loftus Rd outfit who were obviously impressed with what he did for them last time and want a repeat deal with the South Coast side.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp said "There have been a few clubs interested in taking Martin on loan, QPR are one, but nothing has been decided yet. It's possible, of course, but I will have to look at it.”
He went on: “I have got to make sure I don't leave myself short at the back. I cannot afford to leave the squad short. We haven't got a lot of defenders here at the moment and Martin is a versatile player." Fansonline
This is Croydon - Exclusive: Midfielder on the brink
Ben Watson is a step closer to leaving Crystal Palace after boss Neil Warnock left the midfielder out of Wednesday's friendly at Bodmin Town after confirming the club has received two fresh enquiries for the player.
The 22-year-old has long been linked with a move to QPR after rejecting a new contract that would have made him the highest paid player at the club.
Iain Dowie's side have already had a £1.25million pound bid rejected by the Selhurst Park, while Birmingham City have also expressed an interest in bringing Watson to St Andrews and Championship new boys Nottingham Forest have also been linked with a move for the midfielder.
Rumours were circulating at the beginning of this week that the Loftus Road club were preparing to table a fresh bid for the Palace academy graduate and the Eagles boss has confirmed that there has been more dialogue with regards to Watson this week with two clubs, fueling speculation that the west-London big spenders have made an improved offer for the midfielder.
Speaking to the Advertiser after the pre-season friendly at Bodmin, Warnock told the Advertiser: "We've had one or two further enquiries which was why I pulled him out tonight - I didn't want to risk him." This is Croydon
BBC - Dowie wants one or two signings
Queens Park Rangers manager Iain Dowie is still hoping for more reinforcements ahead of the Championship season.
Dowie told BBC London 94.9: "I've always said I'm very happy. It's not revolution, it's evolution. I do think we need one or two areas strengthening.
"We may be in a situation where we can bring one or two in, that may change the picture."
However, striker Daniel Nardiello is set to leave the club - either permanently or on loan.
Dowie revealed: "Daniel, I feel, is a little behind in the pecking order, I think four strikers are just a touch ahead of him. "
Meanwhile Rangers beat Northampton 1-0 on Wednesday, thanks to a Dexter Blackstock goal.
And after that game Dowie was full of praise for his squad's attitude.
He said: "Since the minute I've been here the work the lads have done in preseason has been outstanding," BBC
And as noted on QPR Report yesterday, Dominic Shimmin Trial at St. Mirren
Daily Record - St Mirren take former Arsenal youngster Dominic Shimmin on trial
ST MIRREN boss Gus MacPherson admits being impressed by young defender Dominic Shimmin after the 20-year-old stopper turned out on trial for the Buddies.
The former Arsenal and QPR rookie played as a trialist in Saints' clashes with Dumbarton and Stirling Albion after being recommended to the Love Street boss.
And MacPherson says the stopper has made an impression on him already.
"Dominic is a central defender who is strong and has a good physical presence," he told St Mirren's website.
"He was with Arsenal as a kid and through that he knows our goalkeeper Mark Howard, then he was with Queen's Park Rangers and even though he is now only twenty he has has taken part in a lot of games."He has came to us highly recommended and we were told that he was definitely worth a look at." Glasgow Record
And news about super-brief QPR loan, Jason Jarret - who was signed on a three month loan and sent back after one game:
BBC - Jarrett could have Preston future
Preston manager Alan Irvine has admitted that he has been impressed with Jason Jarrett's attitude and application during pre-season.
Jarrett, 28, has been out-of-favour at North End for almost two years.
Irvine told BBC Radio Lancashire: "He's done very well. He came back in very good condition and he's worked extremely hard in training.
"He's trying very hard to get himself a chance here. It's a huge year for him and he's got a chance."
The former Wigan midfielder last started a competitive match for Preston in the Carling Cup at Port Vale in August 2006 and since then has had loan spells with four different clubs - Hull, Leicester, QPR and Oldham.
He was transfer-listed by former manager Paul Simpson in May 2007 after spells away at Hull and Leicester.
"I said, and I meant it, at the end of the season that everyone would start afresh so he's got that opportunity and it's important from his point of view that he takes that opportunity.
"If he doesn't then clearly it will not be good for him as far as being here in concerned. But, if he does there is a chance here for him.
"I'm not looking to move Jason Jarrett out. Obviously we're Preston, and if anybody comes on making enquiries about any of our players then we have to consider their enquiry." BBC
