\Blackpool Gazette -STAYING POWER!
SIMON Grayson has moved to ease fears about the possibility of Pool's successful team breaking up in January by insisting he has no worries about what the next month holds.
Ian Evatt is due to return to QPR on January 3 and the loan deal of Stoke's Andy Wilkinson runs out after the Chesterfield game on New Year's Day.
Some fans fear that if two members of a so far rock-solid back four were to leave, it could upset the momentum and dent Pool's bid to climb into a play-off spot.
But Grayson insists he has no concerns. He is hopeful of extending the loan spells of both Evatt – whose signature is a priority – and Wilkinson.
Grayson has also already completed a signing, bringing in Latvian international defender Kaspars Gorkss, and he has a list of other players he may try to snap up – players he reckons will want to come because of the Seasiders current form.
"I don't worry about January because if we are doing well it is easier to attract players," said the manager.
"Last January it was chop and change every week as we brought in different players just to try and get results on a weekly basis.
"But this time it will be different. If we are around where we are now in the league come January then it will be a lot easier to bring in the players we want than it was last year when we were in the bottom four.
"We've got the players here but we want to bring better players in if they become available to the club, and if loan players are made available that we've got – like Evatt and Wilkinson – then we'll try and sign them as well."Progression is what it's all about. We don't want to stand still and think what we've got now is good enough. We need to kick on and do better."
Grayson has yet to speak in detail with president Valery Belokon and chairman Karl Oyston about what money he has to spend next month.
Money
But Belokon told The Gazette that he had every confidence in the manager's judgment and would leave the decision to him.
"This is what is good about Simon. He really understands what we would like and what we want and he doesn't always ask for money, he doesn't want more than is necessary," said Belokon.
"I think when Simon needs players the board listen to him. I don't think Simon will have a problem getting money if he feels it is really necessary."
Pool have Evatt and Wilkinson for the next four games, with the pair eligible to face Bournemouth, Carlisle, Doncaster and Chesterfield.
Nottingham Forest's Vincent Fernandez is also on loan until New Year's Day but so far he has only made one brief appearance from the bench. Gazette
QPR OFFICIAL SITE - DOC'S ORDERS
Tommy Doherty has this week returned to QPR after his loan deal with Wycombe Wanderers expired.
But due to picking up his third red card of the season, the midfield terrier will be banned from the R's next three Championship fixtures against Barnsley, Birmingham and Norwich.
The club are currently in discussions with Wycombe to discuss a possible return to the Buckinghamshire club.
Doherty signed for the R's on July 1 2005 and made 14 appearances for the Superhoops, before going on loan to Wanderers. QPR
