2006/07 Season in Review Part #1: Pre-Season May 2006

The central event of May 2006 was of course, "The Trial" at Blackfriars Court - details of which at QPR Report. Tracy Stent's Trial "Compendium" is the most comprehensive report on the complete trial.
(And despite all the denials/explanations, some in the press still misidentified the QPR Chairman. The Times described Paladini as "A former Italian football international ...who used to play for Juventus and Napoli.." - The Times

At the end of April, after a season-concluding run of 11 games without a win, QPR Manager Gary Waddock had announced that 14 players would be departing or had been transfer listed. Fourteen Going The Waddock saw QPR take 5 points from those final 11 games....with 1 point from final 7 games. Their last win was at the end of February. (In all, in Waddock's 14 games in charge, which saw 2 wins from his first 3 games, before the 11 game run.
After winning 2 out of his first 3 games, Garry Waddock's QPR finished winnless in their final 11 games. Total of 11 points from 14 games.
Despite this, and despite some press stories such as "Dennis Wise to take over QPR?" Waddock was still expected to be appointed the full-time manager.


There were two signings in May: Jamaican International, Damion Stewart signed from Bradford.

Cameroon International, Armel Tchakounte
also signed.
Manager Gary Waddock: "Armel shone in training and will be a huge addition to this football club."He's a big, strong, powerful lad with great energy and will be a key player for us next season.''
Chairman Gianni Paladini: "He can run all day and has a never-say-die attitude. He will be a tremendous signing. "Gary was really impressed with him in the three weeks he spent with us towards the end of last season and coupled with the other players we hope to bring in over the summer, we're really optimistic about the future.'' QPR Director, Dunga spoke about making the playoffs and stability: "We need to look at getting into the play-offs...This is a big club, and it is what the fans want. The most important thing is to build foundations here. You cannot always be changing from one day to the next.At any club, a manager needs to be given the chance to work effectively."

Former Manager, Ian Holloway was being linked with the managerial jobs at Millwall and Ipswich.
