League - AGENTS FEES
The latest six-monthly publication of Clubs' spending on agents' fees by The Football League has revealed that spending during the second half of the 2006/07 season fell by 25 per-cent to £2.44m, compared to £3.27m for the same period in 2005/06.
Championship Clubs committed a total of £2,113,903, with Leagues 1 and 2 Clubs committing £208,563 and £118,387 respectively.
In announcing the figures Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney said: "I am encouraged that Football League Clubs have spent less money on agents' fees over the last six months and I hope this pattern continues.
"The League remains the only body of Clubs that have committed to publishing their spending on agents' fees. By doing so, we are taking an admirable lead in terms of good governance in football."
During 2006/07 season, as a whole, Clubs committed to pay agents in 11per-cent (378) of the 3,328 player transactions that took place, collectively committing the sum of £8,584,321.
Championship Clubs accounted for £7.53m (88%) of this total, with League 1 and League 2 clubs accounting for £717,368 (8 per-cent) and £338,452 (4 per-cent) respectively.
In total 19 Clubs did not commit any monies to agents - compared to 16 in 2005/06 and 13 in 2004/05 - six of these for the third consecutive season and 27 Clubs committed less than £10,000.
