This was the week that Lee Cook joined Fulham. Lee Camp came back to QPR...and QPR were heavily punished by the Football League for the Simon Blitz loan. Actually -at least thus far - none of them happened!
Today: QPR's first Friendly at home to Celtic. This week, QPR's 2007-2008 Reserve Fixtures was released. In their second week, back in training, the team played a closed-door match vs Crawley United (won 3-2). . Shrewsbury cancelled their July 31 Friendly vs QPR (preferring to play Manchester City!). QPR subequently arranged a Friendly at Harrow on that day. (The ref for the Crawley "game," Dermott Gallagher will also be ref for the Harrow game. Harrow: "Dermott Gallagher has been asked by the Championship side to officiate at the game.")
Still nothing announced re Chelsea's Jimmy Smith, Michael Mancienne, Ben Sahar and Scott Sinclair. Charlton, Wolves, Watford, Plymouth and QPR have all been linked with various of these players. Sinclair is off with Chelsea in the United States.
Ex-QPR: Marc Bircham joined Yeovil. Richard Edghill joined Macclesfield. Tony Roberts had a testimonial against West Ham. Roberts is still waiting to see if he will be able to play in the League. Gillingham initially announced they had signed Simon Royce. The next day they issued a correction. He was training with them but had not yet signed. Trevor Sinclair signed for Cardiff and Rufus Brevett was appointed Sporting Director at Swindon. Steve Lomas played for Northern Ireland against an Everton XI.
Re Lee Cook: Initial reports stated categorically he WAS joining Fulham for a fee of about 1.5 million pounds (which grew slightly bigger). A couple of papers reported that he'd asked for a transfer.
QPR chairman Gianni Paladini has dismissed their approach out of hand.
Paladini told BBC London 94.9: "He's got a two-year contract and he's a QPR player - end of story. .."I think he would be a bit offended if someone valued him at £1.5m. He's a QPR player and unless we get a decent deal he's going nowhere and he knows that.....There's no way he's going for £1.5m. I just want to assure the fans." BBC
club in 2004.
Re Lee Camp: Again, Initial reports stated categorically he WAS joining QPR.
Chairman Paladini told BBC London 94.9 "It's just a matter now of Lee sorting himself out with Derby because he's earning a lot of money there...We cannot offer him the same money but he loves the club, wants to play for us and we'll give him a long contract."..."The deal has been agreed...I hope sincerely that we can present him against Celtic on Sunday."
Meanwhile, Derby Manager Billy Davies said he'd be happy if Camp stayed at Derby.
The Football League did meet, but whether QPR/Simon Blitz loan actually was discussed has not been announced. (The only League Statement was re Leeds United. QPR itself has not issued any statement). Timeline re reports/statements re QPR/Blitz
