London Informer/Paul Warburton - QPR set sights on Caleb Folan
- QPR have turned their attentions to Hull City's Caleb Folan as the last part of an attacking jigsaw.
Rs boss Paulo Sousa believes he only needs one more option up front - and wants the out-of-favour Irish international to plug the gap.
Folan started the season by notching the winner in his side's opening day 2-1 victory over Fulham, but has since been restricted to a watching brief from the Tigers bench - getting only one Premiership start doing the 26-year-old no favours at all. Hull were whacked 5-0 at home to Wigan at the end of August.
But Sousa wants his club to have another go at getting a player manager Phil Brown wanted to hang onto when Rangers asked the question last summer.
Folan would come on loan initially, and if things worked out would sign permanently for somewhere around the £1m Hull paid for his services when he joined from Wigan in A ugust, 2007.
But a Hoops insider revealed there would be no further chasing Leroy Lita at Reading.
The striker is priced at £1.3m, but Hoops will keep their money in their pockets both for he and Southampton keeper Kelvin Davies - also linked with the club this week in an apparent £1m switch.
The source said: "Lita wants to see where he is with Reading at the end of the season. And as it stands Rangers have two top keepers. Even if Lee Camp eventually leaves, the club can get an emergency keeper on loan should it be necessary." London Informer
Sky Sports Leigertwood happy at QPR -Midfielder rejects Wolves and Bolton talk
QPR star Mikele Leigertwood insists he is happy to stay at Loftus Road despite being linked with a move away from the club.
Wolves and Bolton have both been strongly linked with the former Crystal Palace and Sheffield United midfielder in this month's transfer window.
Leigertwood has played down the speculation and says he is happy with life at QPR.
"There has been a bit in the paper about whether I am going or not," Leigertwood told the club's official website.
"But I have been told that I am not going anywhere and I do not really want to go anywhere. So as long as people are happy to keep me here then I am happy to stay.
"When I came I knew what was going to happen. Probably people wanted it to happen quicker than it is but these things take time.
"But it is an exciting project that I want to be part of." SkySports
Chicago Tribune/Luis Arroyave - Matt Pickens returns to MLS
Goalkeeper learns from frustrating stint in England
- Second-tier English club Queens Park Rangers released the former Fire goalkeeper in May and he had hoped to catch on with another European team once his separated shoulder healed. He spent three months trying out for different European clubs between August and November but had no luck.
- "It was tough to be on trial on and off," said Pickens, whose rights the Fire traded to Colorado during the Jan. 15 MLS draft. "You would train one week and be off another. There wasn't much consistency. It definitely was not fun. But it's not supposed to be."
- Pickens had other options, but they would have required assistance from his former MLS club.
- "I knew there was interest in MLS," Pickens said. "But it was like, 'Great. I can't do anything until Chicago trades my rights.' They weren't going to give them away free."
- Eventually the Fire sent Pickens' rights and its second-round pick (No. 28 overall) to the Rapids for their second-round pick (No. 20) and allocation money.
- The 26-year-old keeper is excited about playing home games at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, one of MLS' newest stadiums, and he is looking forward to seeing what sort of playing style new coach Gary Smith brings to the team.
- Would Pickens have liked to play for the Fire again?
- "I would have been interested if they had been interested," he said.
- As for Europe, he admits he would like to return some day.
- "I would go back if I could," Pickens said. "But I probably wouldn't sign if it's to sit on the bench."
- Pickens joined Queens Park in February but failed to play a minute in his brief time with the club. Although it was frustrating, he believes he learned from the experience.
- "I learned about life in general," said Pickens, who now is training with the U.S. national team. "I learned how to get knocked down and get back up."
