- Iain Dowie is closing in on a return to management after emerging as the leading candidate to step in and save Blackpool from the growing threat of relegation.

The former QPR boss was at Bloomfield Road last Saturday, amid suggestions the job would have been his, had caretaker manager Tony Parkes failed to end a run of six games without a win.
- A 2-0 victory over second-from-bottom Norwich earned Parkes a reprieve but, with his struggling side just four points clear of the relegation places, his future remains in doubt.
- When he took on the seventh caretaker role of his career in December, following Simon Grayson's move to Leeds, he was told by Blackpool's board that it could become permanent, depending on results.
- But a return of just three wins from 14 games has caused alarm among Blackpool chiefs and left them considering Dowie's credentials for safeguarding their Championship status.
