INDPENDENT/Kieran Dayley - Ipswich season ticket more expensive than United
By Kieran Daley
A survey of all 92 English professional clubs has found Championship side Ipswich's most expensive season ticket was more than the equivalent at Newcastle or Manchester United.
At £1001, Ipswich's season ticket, entitling the owner to a seat in section D of the Cobbold Stand at Portman Road, is the fourth-most expensive in the country, with Newcastle, at £975, and Manchester United, at £931, coming in fifth and sixth respectively.
Arsenal offer the most expensive season ticket in the country at £1825 according to the survey, which was conducted by FourFourTwo magazine, with the most expensive single ticket for a match at the Emirates Stadium costing £94.
- After Arsenal, Tottenham's top-price season ticket costs £1695, and Chelsea's costs £1210. Rounding out the top 10, Fulham charge £899, West Ham charge £850, Liverpool charge £785 and Queen's Park Rangers lead the line for sides outside the top flight, asking their supporters to shell out £699 for a season pass.
Of Premier League clubs, Wigan offers the cheapest top-price season ticket – the best seat in the house costing just £295, which is less than half as much as the equivalent at Bristol City – with only Accrington, Bradford, Hereford, Crewe and Port Vale coming out cheaper out of any teams in the entire Football League.
Wigan officials attribute their comparitively cheap tickets to a range of factors, including the proximity of other teams in the north-west and the fact Wigan is predominantly a rugby league town. Independent
QPR Official Site - HALL APPOINTED SKIPPER
- R's gaffer Neil Warnock has revealed experienced defender Fitz Hall will skipper the R's for the 2010/11 campaign.
- Hall - who joined Rangers from Wigan Athletic in January 2008 - has enjoyed a fine pre-season under the guidance of the new Hoops chief and was understandably delighted when he spoke to www.qpr.co.uk.
- "I'm lost for words really," he said.
- "It's an honour and an absolute privilege and I couldn't be more delighted."
- Warnock told www.qpr.co.uk: "I've been hugely impressed with Fitz since he returned this summer and I just like the idea of my skipper being someone who can see the whole game from the back.
- "His leadership qualities are second to none and he's an inspirational figure in the dressing room."
- Hall's QPR days appeared to be numbered when he was sent out on loan to runaway Championship winners Newcastle United at the end of last season, but the arrival of Warnock has breathed new life into his Rangers career.
- "I honestly thought my time at the Club was coming to an end last year, but I never wanted to leave and being named skipper means everything to me," he said.
- "I was captain at Palace for a season earlier in my career and even though I was probably too young at the time, it was a role I really enjoyed.
- "I've got the experience and I know the division and I'll relish the responsibility that comes with it.
- "I'm not a shouter, but I like to lead by example.
- "For the gaffer to pick me out of the 25 or so players we have in the squad is just incredible."
- Martin Rowlands - who is still working his way back from a serious knee injury - will remain Club Captain, and Hall acknowledged the role he and his team-mates will play over the course of the next eight months.
- "The gaffer has signed a lot of leaders this summer," he said.
- "Players like Dezza (Shaun Derry) and Hilly (Clint Hill), who I played with at the back during my days at Oldham, are massive leaders.
- "They're great talkers and hugely experienced and coupled with people like Rowly (Martin Rowlands) and Ledge (Mikele Leigertwood), we've got a good bunch this season." QPR
