East Riding Daily Mail - HULL CITY: Two-week break can help me settle, says on-loan striker Vine

ROWAN Vine hopes the international break has helped him get up to speed with his new Hull City team-mates ahead of next weekend's trip to Leicester.

The 28-year-old striker, signed on a one-month loan from QPR, had just one training session ahead of his City debut in the 0-0 draw with Coventry last Saturday.

An instant return proved to be beyond Vine, but with the Tigers enjoying a 14-day break before their Championship season resumes at Leicester, the forward has been given the chance to find his feet in new surroundings.

"The international break works two ways," said Vine, who hopes to spark up a union with Jay Simpson to end City's goal-scoring troubles.

"Obviously, I want to be playing games but this gives me a chance to work with the boys on a few things.

"It's given us two weeks to prepare for the next game and get a better understanding."

Vine has made no secret of his desire to make a positive impact at the KC Stadium after he was told in July that he had no future at QPR.

His loan deal is due to expire following the trip to Barnsley at the end of the month, but both parties would be open to extending the deal if circumstances allow it.

A cash settlement was discussed with Neil Warnock during the summer to sever the final year of his reported £16,000-a-week contract.

An agreement is yet to be reached but City would be keen to recruit Vine if he can prove his fitness in the coming weeks.

"The manager is not one to mince his words and he has made it pretty clear that he can't see me having a future there," said Vine. "He told me that in the summer.

"I haven't been involved in that much with the first team, training and stuff like that.

"That has been tough but it is part of football. At least, I know where I stand." Hull Mail

An interview with Ex-QPR Youth Coach Steve Brown.
- DowntoTenMen Full interview -
- ".....In 2007 both yourself and Keith Ryan left Wycombe in a ‘cost-cutting exercise’, was this as it says, a cost-cutting exercise, or did Paul Lambert want to replace the pair of you?
- I don’t know, I was terribly surprised to lose my job after the club had reached the Carling Cup semi-final. The club had no real grounds to get rid of us, so in my opinion it was down to the manager. Let me throw this at you: Would Martin O’Neill have stayed at a club if the board wanted to get rid of his coaches after they had reached a major cup semi-final?
- After being at QPR for two years as Youth Team Manager, was it difficult to work for a club that was constantly changing its management staff?
- I never saw myself leaving QPR as early as I did. Working with Keith (Ryan) we had a long-term plan of how we saw the way forward for the youth department.
- There was no money to spend so it was a case of improving training practices and using rules and regulations to change attitudes to improve things.
- We had some good coaches, so that helped establish the standard of things we wanted for the youngsters. Winning things was not important to me at QPR, it was about getting the kids into the first team and getting their careers up and running. I inherited some good players in the U18s and with some good coaching they won the Puma Youth Alliance league, something they’ve not won since. Also six of those players are now professional players and have a bright future ahead of them.
- Angelo Balanta being the pick of them, who had a loan spell at Wycombe.
- When Flavio (Briatore) got involved with the club and members of staff kept changing I was under no illusion that one day it could be me. That day came after we returned from the Viareggio Tournament..." DowntoTenMen

Talksport/Julian Bennets - QPR to re-sign Spurs youngster on loan
- QPR will re-sign Tottenham youngster Kyle Walker on loan this week.
And the deal will be classified as a 'youth loan', meaning it is a rolling deal that could run until the end of the season.
- But as part of the agreement Spurs would be able to recall the 20-year-old at any time.

- Walker joined the Championship leaders on a one-month loan deal in September, but that expires after the international break.
- And Neil Warnock is desperate to keep the defender, who started every one of QPR's games during his initial stay at Loftus Road.
It is also thought that Walker is keen to extend his stay with QPR as he will be given the chance to play regular first-team football.
- But one potential problem with the youth loan agreement is that it will expire on Walker's 21st birthday, which is on May 28 next year.
- And with the Championship play-off Final not until May 30 there is a chance Walker could miss the big game if Rangers reach the Final at Wembley. Talksport
