Paul Warburton...Fulham Chronicle - Tony Fernandes will wait for QPR takeover

TONY Fernandes has dipped a tentative toe into QPR water by agreeing to buy a 20 percent stake – but does not intend to take over entirely until the end of the season at the earliest.

In exchange for the shares, the airline mogul and Lotus Formula I chief is however ready to sink £15million into the club – sold him by Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore.

The pair currently control around 67 percent, with the final 20-odd percent owned by billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.

Amit Bhatia, then vice chair and son-in-law, resigned from the board at the end of May angered by the price hike when Mittal put in a bid for Ecclestone and Briatore’s stake – both of whom have been looking for a buyer since the beginning of the year.

West Ham fan Fernandes is expected to join the board imminently, and will take 10 percent from each of the motor racing chiefs, with boss Neil Warnock warming to the idea of extra income around the corner.

“I met Tony in Italy, and he is a very nice chap,” said the manager, “myself, Flavio and Tony all had a positive chat after the match last Saturday.

"We've already spoken about possible targets and he is a very positive man. Fulham Chronicle

QPR Official Site - EXCLUSIVE: DJ'S COMING HOME

Posted on: Thu 04 Aug 2011

Queens Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Blackpool striker DJ Campbell.

The 29 year-old front-man, who scored 13 goals in the Barclays Premier League last season, has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Loftus Road.

The deal represents a remarkable homecoming for Campbell, who as well as supporting the Club all his life, also spent his early playing days in W12, alongside another new Rangers recruit, Jay Bothroyd.

"It's a Club that I supported as a kid," an excited Campbell told www.qpr.co.uk.

"I grew up around here and QPR have played a massive part in my life.

"This was my first Club, from 6-16, so to finally be back here at the age of 29 is really special."

He added: "It's a massive Club and it means a lot to me to be back here where it all began.

"There were other Clubs in the Premier League that showed an interest but when I heard QPR were in for me it was an offer I couldn't refuse - this is my Club."

R's boss Neil Warnock is looking forward to working with the new number nine, commenting: "He is someone I have admired for a while now and he had a fabulous season in the Premier League with Blackpool last year.

"He is a QPR fan and you can tell he has a great desire to do well for the Club he supports. That shone through when I met up with him - he can't wait to play for us.

"He also gives us that extra element of pace which we need and I am sure he will prove to be a big hit with the fans at Loftus Road this season."

QPR OFFICIAL SITE - MUM'S THE WORD FOR DJ

New R's signing DJ Campbell has revealed his Mum predicted he would one day play for his boyhood Club.

Campbell spent ten years at QPR in his youth, but - in an exclusive interview with www.qpr.co.uk - the former Blackpool ace explained how his Mum, Violet Peirce, kept on and on about his returning to his hometown team.

"My mum always said to me that I'd be back here one day and today it's happened, so I couldn't be more delighted," he said.

"I used to sit up in the stands with the hooligans! They were great times - I loved coming down here to watch QPR."

He added: "I'd really brushed off the chance of ever coming back here to be honest, but maybe it was meant to be.

"I remember back in the day watching Les (Ferdinand) and others, heroes of mine, and now I'm back here playing for the Club I love.

"It feels like a dream to be honest."
