BBC - Waddock keen to take Shots chance
Gary Waddock is determined to make the most of his return to management with Conference club Aldershot.
"It's a really great opportunity for me," said the former QPR manager, who has been installed as Shots boss on a two-year contract.
"It's a good, well-run club with potential and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.
"I learnt an awful lot during my time at QPR both as a coach and a manager, and I want to put that to good use."
Waddock was a hugely popular player at QPR and joined the club's coaching staff when his playing career ended.
He was given the manager's job after Ian Holloway was axed, but his time in charge was blighted by poor results and behind-the-scenes problems.
He was replaced by John Gregory just eight games into the season, with Rangers bottom of the table.
"I won't ever hear a bad word said about QPR," Waddock insisted.
"It's my club and they gave me the opportunity to start my coaching career and then a wonderful opportunity to be the manager.
"Things didn't work out as I wanted them to. Now it's a case of learning from that and moving on." Waddock has shown he can bounce back from major setacks, having rebuilt a playing career that seemed to have been ended by injury.
Now the former Republic of Ireland midfielder is aiming to prove he can succeed in management.
"I've definitely had setbacks as both a player and a manager," he said.
"That gives you experiences to draw on as you try to improve yourself.
"I've got a burning desire to succeed as a manager - just like I had when I was a player - and I'm looking forward to this new challenge." BBC

Simon Royce Expresses Interest in Gillingham
Keeper keen on permanent Gills move
by Luke Cawdell
GOALKEEPER Simon Royce has expressed an interest in the returning to Gillingham, where he spent the last part of the season on loan.
Manager Ronnie Jepson will be targeting a stopper in the summer and may decide 35-year-old Royce fits the bill.
Royce said: "I'd drop a division to get regular first team football and it would be nice as it's only an hour down the road."
Tommy Black is another former Priestfield favourite fans would welcome back. He has been released by Crystal Palace and the winger is waiting to see what happens...
Neither player has been contacted by Gillingham. Kent Online
Good and Bad Night for Ex-QPRs
For Yeovil a good night, beating Nott Forest and reaching Wembley, with ex-QPR Terrell Forbes on the field and Matt Rose on the bench,
For MK Dons: A bad night who lost 1-2 in the playoff semi-final second leg, and so will be remaining in League 2. MK Dons, managed by ex-QPR, Martin Allen, and owned by Pete Winkelman - who tried to buy QPR - ended the match with three players who played for QPR, albeit briefly: Bankole, Knight and Dyer and one more on the bench (Lee Harper).
Milton Keynes Dons: Bankole, Edds, O'Hanlon, Diallo, Lewington (Knight 80), Stirling, Andrews, Blizzard (Taylor 90), Hayes (Dyer 67), Platt, McLeod.
Subs Not Used: Harper, Watts.

Ex-QPR's Tony Roberts Still Awaiting News about Next Season
Daggers look to League
"...Manager John Still and assistant Terry Harris are sitting down with every player to review the club's promotion season on an individual basis and look ahead to the requirements of a new year in League Two.....
Issues that need to be ironed out include a compromise with goalkeeper Tony Robert's insurance company.
The former QPR stopper, now 37, was forced out of League football in 1998 after exacerbating a finger injury while with Milwall and accepted an estimated £150,000 insurance pay-out which prevents him playing professional football.
Still has been optimistic about Roberts' chances of a return however, saying: "We think we can work something out with the insurance people.
"Tony's a very valuable part of the team and he's earned the opportunity." . Roberts
