Carling Cup Third Round United v QPR Tues 11 Nov, KO 20:00 GMT
R's aiming for Cup shock
"We've got a great bunch of lads here and a lot of them have played in the Premier League at some stage, so coming to Old Trafford won't hold any fears for many of them; it won't for me anyway. It's a one-off occasion for us - we go there full of confidence and who knows we might nick something." - Damien Delaney
10/11/2008 09:14, Report by Gemma Thompson - Rangers have no fear
QPR defender Damien Delaney says the R's are full of confidence ahead of their Carling Cup fourth round tie with United, insisting they will not be fazed by playing at Old Trafford.
The Republic of Ireland international was part of the side that dumped Aston Villa out of the competition in the last round at Villa Park.
And the 27-year-old says Rangers will be buoyed by that result and sees no reason why they can't add the Reds to their giant-killing list.
"We've got a great bunch of lads here and a lot of them have played in the Premier League at some stage, so coming to Old Trafford won't hold any fears for many of them; it won't for me anyway," Delaney told ManUtd.com.
"It's a one-off occasion for us - we go there full of confidence and who knows we might nick something.
"We've got absolutely nothing to lose and if we have the same kind of attitude as we showed against Villa hopefully we can get a result."
Delaney is expected to take up his usual left-back slot on Tuesday, but in his earlier days with Leicester City he found himself in midfield and came face-to-face with one of the world's best on his first visit to the Theatre of Dreams.
"I was up against [Roy] Keane that night which was fantastic," he said. "It was a great experience to play in a stadium that size and it'll be great to have another chance to play there.
"A lot of the lads have been talking about which of their players might play on Tuesday, but to be honest it doesn't matter because they're all world class footballers. It'll be a good side whoever plays." Manchester United
Manchester United's squad for the QPR Game:
Blackpool Gazette: Brazilian star set for United return"Rodrigo Possebon will make a Carling Cup comeback for Manchester United against QPR at Old Trafford tomorrow night. The teenage Brazilian has been promised his first appearance since being carried off on a stretcher against Middlesbrough in the last round with a badly-cut leg. Boss Sir Alex Ferguson will also hand places to Rafael Da Silva, Jonny Evans, Darron Gibson and striking duo Manucho and Danny Welbeck, as United look to secure a quarter-final berth. But Patrice Evra is virtually certain not to be involved after leaving Arsenal with a protective cast over his right ankle on Saturday.

08/11/2008 Report by Steve Evans: Meet my team-matesUnder Sir Alex Ferguson, the Carling Cup has frequently been used as a proving ground for United’s burgeoning young talents; just ask Jonny Evans, who made his Reds debut in last season’s third round clash against Coventry City. Here, he talks us through his team-mates that could be involved on Tuesday against QPR…
Rafael da Silva
Position: Defender
Born: 09/07/1990
Debut: 17 August 2008 v Newcastle United (h)
“Everyone's been really impressed with Rafa. He's more or less pushed his way into the first team picture with a couple of games. I think everyone will remember his game against Peterborough in pre-season where he was outstanding. Both he and his brother are very good going forward, which you'd expect from Brazilian full-backs, they almost play like wingers.”
Fabio da Silva
Position: Defender
Born: 09/07/1990
Debut: N/A
“The twins have different styles of play. I think they're both right-footed, but Fabio plays at left-back and likes to come inside a bit more. He also did very well when he played against Peterborough, and people behind the scenes are excited about how good the two of them can become. Fabio picked up a shoulder injury recently, so I'm not sure if Middlesbrough will come too soon for him, but he's a really good prospect for the future.”
David Gray
Position: Defender
Born: 04/05/1988
Debut: 25 October 2006 v Crewe Alexandra (a)
“David came as a right winger, but he was more or less straight away made into a full-back. You'll probably not find a more honest player than David - he'll give everything in a game. He's really quick and very strong in the air and in the tackle, so he makes a really good full-back. I think he's played nearly every position, upfront, midfield, centre-back, full-back... he's probably even played in goal at some point. Maybe he's the new Sheasy!”
James Chester
Position: Defender
Born: 23/01/1989
Debut: N/A
“I've played centre-back with James a few times and he's a very steady defender. He's improved a lot in the last three or four years. He's not the tallest but he still does really well in the air - he's probably one of the most naturally gifted players at the club when it comes to heading the ball, he's got a great leap on him. He does things simple. He wins the ball and gives it, which is a real strength when it comes to defending. He's a really nice lad, I went to college with him and we were in the same Business Studies class for a year. I'm really fond of him, he's a very nice lad. I don't think there's a person at Carrington who doesn't respect him or get on with him.”
Rodrigo Possebon
Position: Midfielder
Born: 13/02/1989
Debut: 17 August 2008 v Newcastle United (h)
“The first time I saw Rodrigo was when he came on trial, probably a year or two ago. Everyone was impressed with what they saw of him. He's got a great touch and technique, and he's so strong on the ball - he very, very rarely gives the ball away and he's quite good in that holding midfield role. He's the opposite of the typical Brazilian midfielder; there's not a lot of flair in what he does, he's more defensive minded and is great at keeping things simple and keeping hold of the ball.”
Darron Gibson
Position: Midfielder
Born: 25/10/1987
Debut: 26 October 2005 v Barnet (h)
“A lot of people know that Gibbo has a great shot on him, and he has a really big presence in midfield. He's very strong, people think he's beefed out a bit in the past few years, but he's always been that sort of build. He has a great range of passing too. Gibbo's been a really good mate of mine for the last four or five years now, since we've been living in England. He moved over about six months after me, so we're very close. We usually go away on holiday together so I know him quite well and he's a good lad.”
Sam Hewson
Position: Midfielder
Born: 28/11/1988
Debut: N/A
“Everyone at United knows what Sam's about. He's good at getting in the box and scoring goals from midfield. He's probably better when he's running onto things, and people here are always comparing him to Paul Scholes in the sense that he gets into the box to score a lot of goals. He's got a good shot on him as well and he can run all day. He's got a lot of power in his game and he's a very good midfield player.”
Tom Cleverley
Position: Midfielder
Born: 12/08/1989
Debut: N/A
“Tom, or 'Chunks' as we call him, has probably been the most improved player of anyone over the last year or two. He really surprised me when I came back from Sunderland with his improvement. He was rewarded with a spot on the South Africa tour and when he came on for his debut, he didn't look out of place. He got a goal for himself as well, which will have done wonders for his confidence. When he was younger he was always very small, but he's shot up now and filled out a bit as well and he's a very good footballer as well. I have no idea why everyone calls him 'Chunks', but that's what he's been called as long as I've been here.”
Danny Welbeck
Position: Striker
Born: 26/11/1990
Debut: 23 September 2008 v Middlesbrough (h)
“I've known about Danny for a few years now. I've always followed him because my brother Corry is the same age as him and has always played in the same matches. I used to watch them all the time, so I know what Danny Welbeck's got. He has a great touch, great skill and awareness and he was always outstanding whenever I saw him - you could always tell there was something about him. Plus I was always hearing from my brother and the coaches that Danny was going to be a brilliant player. There's a lot of hype around Danny, but I think it will be justified. I was out on loan when he made his way into the first team picture, but from what I hear all the first team players have been impressed by him and they all seem to like him.” Manchester United
