- Two Years ago today, Ray Jones, RIP
- QPR Official Site - REMEMBERING RAY
- Today (Tuesday 25th August 2009) marks the second anniversary of the untimely death of QPR starlet Ray Jones.
- Jones, 18, died in a motor accident two years ago, after his car was involved in an accident in East Ham. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Everyone at Queens Park Rangers extends their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Ray at this sad time. Ray Jones (1988-2007) - A moment in our lives, A lifetime in our hearts. QPR
Ealing Gazette/Paul Warburton - QPR set to snap up Arsenal youngster
- QPR are set to sign striker Jay Simpson from Arsenal on a year-long loan later today – while Rowan Vine will be loaned out to one of four Championship clubs interested in reviving the fortunes of the £2.5m striker.
- Rangers boss Jim Magilton has decided enough’s enough as far as his misfiring attack is concerned after failing to get a Championship win in four attempts.
- The problem is clearly a lack of cutting edge up front after three draws and a 1-0 defeat – and Magilton hopes Simpson is the answer.
- Rangers beat off the challenge of Premiership Burnley, and three other Championship clubs to land the 20-year-old because Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to keep an eye on the progress of his young starlet.
- Last season the England U17 player was loaned out to West Brom in a doomed Premiership campaign where he scored once in 13 attempts.
- But Wenger didn’t even consider a permanent deal for Simpson from QPR, as the Frenchman eyes another Theo Walcott in the making and a Premiership future back at The Emirates.
- Rangers have been turned down everywhere they looked for strikers this week – with Leeds quoting telephone numbers for former Wealdstone hitman Jermaine Beckford.
- However, Simpson has pace to burn, and has been earmarked for a partnership with Patrick Agyemang as the target man to provide the ammunition for the Arsenal youngster.
- Meanwhile, Vine will have a choice of a number of Championship outfits to regain full match fitness after firing blanks both pre-season and in the five games so far – four of which have been appearances off the bench.
- At the moment, there is no thought to cash in on the man signed permanently from Birmingham in January 2008, despite an horrendous double leg-break in April in the same year that effectively ruined Vine’s campaign last season." Ealing Gazette

QPR Official Site - MATCHDAY PREVIEW: ACCRINGTON
- Rangers welcome Accrington Stanley to Loftus Road tonight (Tuesday), with a place in the third round of the Carling Cup up for grabs.
After easing past Exeter City in round one, courtesy of goals from Wayne Routledge (3), Alessandro Pellicori and Hogan Ephraim, the R's will be determined to register their first home victory of the campaign against the League Two outfit.
- Stanley - who beat higher league opposition in the shape of Walsall in round one - will be keen to bounce back from Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Gary Waddock's Aldershot Town.
Team News
Jim Magilton is expected to make changes for the second round tie against Stanley.
Fitz Hall is a major doubt for the R's, owing to the rib injury he sustained in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Angelo Balanta could be in line to return from an ankle injury, but skipper Martin Rowlands (ankle) and Lee Cook (knee) remain sidelined.
- Accrington gaffer John Coleman could make changes himself on the back of Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Aldershot Town.
Coleman's strikers have yet to score a league goal this season and Michael Symes may replace Paul Mullin or John Miles.
Star Man - Paul MULLIN - Striker
Legendary Stanley striker Paul Mullin initially joined Stanley in the summer of 1995, only to be allowed to leave months later.
Spells at Non-League sides Darwen, Trafford and Clitheroe followed, before he enjoyed a highly successful spell at Radcliffe, where he was a huge success.
A return to Lancashire followed in August 2000 and he's hardly looked back since then.
Mullin finished his first full season as leading scorer and Player of the Year - a feat he has repeated a further five times over the years.
Furthermore, he has also won The Players' Player of the Year award four times in the last five seasons.
Last season, he was again the leading scorer and also became the first Stanley player to top 400 appearances.
The Gaffer's thoughts
*Jim Magilton - "It goes without saying that we are keen to progress in this competition and we will be approaching tonight's tie in exactly the same way we do with any competitive fixture.
"The Club enjoyed a good run in this Cup last season, with a victory at Villa Park and a trip to Old Trafford amongst the highlights, and we all want to progress this evening.
"Having said that, Accrington will also have their own ambitions to achieve in this competition and we won't be taking them lightly.
"Victories in any competition breed confidence and we want to head to Sc-nthorpe this weekend with a win to our name and a place in the third round."
- *John Coleman - "It will be a real money-spinner for us and is just the sort of draw we needed. "QPR are a good side and it will be an excellent test for the players and we look forward to it."
