Mail/John Edwards - Darren Ferguson set for QPR post as suspended boss Jim Magilton braces himself for sack
- Darren Ferguson is ready to become QPR manager at the second time of asking as Jim Magilton braces himself for the sack at Loftus Road.
- Ferguson could have had the job in the summer but for deciding to remain loyal to Peterborough, something he was left reflecting on ruefully when the London Road club rewarded two successful promotion campaigns by dismissing him earlier this season.
- The son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is back on the QPR radar, though, following a dressing room bust-up between Magilton and midfielder Akos Buzsaky that looks certain to end with yet another managerial casualty at Loftus Road.
- Though Magilton has vowed to clear his name, Buzsaky is threatening to sue, if an internal investigation finds against him, and has been assured by his team-mates that he has their support.
- Former Ipswich manager Magilton is expected to have his fate confirmed over the weekend, with Ferguson already on a shortlist of candidates to take over.
- Buzsaky will be in the QPR squad for the trip to West Bromwich Albion after returning to first-team training, and should make the bench.
The 27-year-old midfielder missed training on Wednesday, and was not present when assistant boss John Gorman held a meeting with the rest of the first-team squad to ascertain the level of support for Magilton.

- You all know the story - waiter delivering Champagne to George Best's hotel room finds the superstar lying on his bed with Miss World and a shedload of casino winnings. Waiter shakes his head and delivers the immortal line: "George, where did it all go wrong?"

Which kind of sums up life as a QPR fan. Bags of cash, supermodels in the stands, football from the Gods - and an accident just waiting to happen.

The latest chapter began with a 5-1 hammering by Middlesbrough and ended with our star player loitering in a public convenience at Vicarage Road, promotion aspirations seemingly down the toilet and the manager suspended amid allegations of an altercation. Even by our own sub-standards, this will take some beating.

The messageboards were awash with suggestions that panto season had come early but (with apologies to Morrissey) - every day is like fun-day at Loftus Road. Meanwhile TromRs on the LoftForWords forum observed: "If you put QPR's recent history into an episode of Footballer's Wives, the critics would jump on it for being too unrealistic."

- Let's look at the evidence: Sporting Director alleging he was held at gunpoint in the boardroom, the great brawl of China, joint-owner ordering one of his racing drivers to crash their car and more bosses than a series of The Sopranos. Yep, Trom might have a point. Oh, and there's the small matter of becoming the first league team ever to be knocked out of the FA Cup by a car plant, when Vauxhall Motors came-a-calling a few years back.

Now the wheels have come off again and I'm sat at my desk waiting for the next colleague to come up and ask with a smirk "What is going on at that club of yours?"

I wrote a piece when Jim Magilton was appointed manager in June predicting that he would be out by Christmas, although given the track record of Flavio Briatore, it didn't require foresight of Mystic Meg proportions. That said, I never saw this coming - and neither did Akos Buzsaky if you believe the accounts in some national newspapers.

Bizarrely a few days earlier there were reports of a similar dressing room spat at Stoke involving Tony Pulis and James Beattie. I don't know, you wait all year for a manager-allegedly-has-ruck-with-player story and then two come along at once.

Beattie was snapped this week grinning inanely behind the wheel of a car, surrounded by a bunch of schoolboys. It's not clear where he was ferrying them to, but they looked about the same age as some of the team Arsenal took to Olympiakos in the Champions League. One of the youngsters on show in Athens was a teenager called Tom Cruise, who was predictably dubbed 'Top Gunner' before being brought back down to earth by the Greeks.
