Fulham Chronicle/Paul Warburton - QPR boss Neil Warnock wary of Jobi McAnuff threat
- NEIL Warnock hopes there are no chances for the man he tried to sign in the summer when Reading arrive at Loftus Road tomorrow.
Jobi McAnuff was high on the QPR manager's radar - but a near £2.5m price tag was enough to scupper any deal.
- Now the Rangers supremo is praying McAnuff does not produce the sort of performance that saw two Crystal Palace players booked within half an hour last season, when Warnock was in charge at Selhurst Park.
He said: "I couldn’t believe it. McAnuff gave a hard time to Danny Butterfield and got him booked.
“So I switched Nathaniel Clyne over - and he got booked as well.
- “We offered good money for Jobi but Reading didn’t want to know." Fulham Chronicle
Chris Slavin/EAling Gazette - QPR goalkeeper determined to prove himself at new club [/b]
ON-LOAN goalkeeper Niki-Lee Bulmer says he is determined to “make a name for himself” at Hayes & Yeading with his QPR contract due to expire next month. The 19-year-old started a loan deal at Hayes & Yeading on Friday that runs until the date when his six-month contract at QPR expires on December 28.
Lee-Bulmer knows that the next seven weeks is therefore a shop window for him.
And the Chester-born goalkeeper, who started his career at Manchester United, says he is ready to grasp an opportunity to shine if Lee Harrison's injury problems come back to haunt him.
“I am just trying to get as many games under my belt as I can at a young age,” he said. “At QPR there are a few goalkeepers ahead of me and as an up-and-coming goalkeeper I am not going to get games in the first-team, especially with the way that they are doing at the moment.
“I joined QPR when I was 16 and this is my third year, but my first year as a professional. I am contracted there until Christmas and on loan here until then. I will go back to QPR and see if they want to take me again, if they don't then I will have to make sure that I have made a name for myself to get another club.”
Bulmer says his time at QPR has served him well and he says that 39-year-old Harrison – a veteran of over 300 Football League appearances – is a great goalkeeper to learn from.
“He has got vast experience,” added Lee-Bulmer. “As much as I can learn from him is going to help me. The experience at QPR has been unbelievable with goalkeepers such as Paddy Kenny and Lee Camp there during my time and you could not have asked for a nicer bunch to learn from.”

CHRIS DAY - PFA GIVE ME FOOTBALL No danger of over confidence in Boro ranks, says Chris. [/b]
Chris Day
We’ll quietly carry on doing our jobs and try to keep getting good results Player
Chris Day is enjoying his return to the Football League with Boro
Stevenage romped to the Blue Square League title last season and they are certainly enjoying their start to life in the Football League. Boro are currently eighth in League Two after the 3-0 win at Barnet in midweek and successive promotions are the aim for Graham Wesley’s side. And one encouraging stat for Stevenage fans is that in the last ten years Exeter, Carlisle and Doncaster have all been promoted from the fourth tier at the first time of asking. Givemefootball’s Mark Shail spoke exclusively to 35-year-old former Watford, QPR, Crystal Palace and Millwall goalkeeper Chris Day.
YOU MUST HAVE BEEN PLEASED WITH THE 3-0 WIN AT BARNET IN MIDWEEK?
It was really good to get the three points but the result may have flattered us a little bit because we actually didn’t play that well. In fact, we have played better than that in recent games but not managed to win. But it is nice to get back to winning ways and sometimes it is important that you can win ugly.
AND THAT VICTORY CAME ON THE BACK OF TWO GOALLESS DRAWS?
That is what we have built our game around – being organised and difficult to beat. We have got one of the best defensive records in the division and it is crucial that you can still pick up points when you are not scoring goals. But against Barnet, although we weren’t at our best, we were clinical with our finishing. When we put it all together we are a good side.
OVERALL, YOU MUST BE DELIGHTED WITH THE START TO THE SEASON?
Yes, we have set ourselves very high standards and if we can stay in and around the top eight there could be possibilities of us having another successful season. But we won’t be getting carried away or starting to get over-confident – we’ll quietly carry on doing our jobs and try to keep getting good results. If we can continue to make progress there could be places up for grabs towards the top of the table.
YOU MUST BE PLEASED TO BE BACK IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE AFTER JOINING STEVENAGE WHEN THEY WERE IN THE BLUE SQUARE PREMIER LEAGUE?
I know it took two and a bit years to get back but when I signed for Stevenage I knew I was joining a very good club. In fact, it is one of the best run clubs I have ever played for – it is a very professional outfit. There are a lot of good sides in that division and most of them are full-time.
AND A FEW OF YOUR FORMER CLUBS ARE ALSO DOING WELL THIS SEASON?
Yes, Millwall have started pretty well and Watford are surprising a few people. I have still got a lot of friends who are QPR fans and Neil Warnock is doing a great job – it would be fantastic to see them back in the Premier League. However, Crystal Palace are struggling a bit at the moment. GiveMeFootball
QPR Official Site - INJURY WOE FOR AKOS
Akos Buzsaky has been ruled out for up to five weeks after it was confirmed today that he requires surgery on the knee injury he sustained against Norwich two weeks ago.
The Hungarian international limped off after 27 minutes of action against the Canaries. Initially, it was hoped surgery would not be required.
However, Head Physio Nigel Cox explained to www.qpr.co.uk today: "Unfortunately Akos has got a small tear in a knee cartilage.
"We hoped he would be able to get away without the need for surgery but, in order to ascertain whether that could happen, we needed to give the knee time to settle down.
"As we have progressed through function, it has become apparent that he is in too much discomfort. The only option now is surgery to clean up the knee.
"Unfortunately, where the injury is in his knee means the surgeon wants him to take his recovery very carefully, so we are looking at four to five weeks of rehab."
