Yann Tear/Ealing Gazette - Clint Hill makes QPR admission
QPR were guilty of playing too much long-ball football in their desperation to end their run of home draws last week, defender Clint Hill has admitted.
Rangers were held 1-1 by Burnley at Loftus Road on Saturday and the more composed build-ups of a few weeks ago often gave way to longer balls launched into the danger area.
Hill denies anxiety has crept into the side's play but concedes the Hoops need to rediscover the composed short passing game which unlocked teams earlier in the campaign.
"I don't think there's been any anxiety, but we definitely played longer ball than we have been doing, and probably did it too much," Hill said.
"I think credit's got to go to Burnley for that, though. I think they kind of swamped us in midfield and we couldn't play through them as we like to. They stopped us getting Adel [Taarabt] into the game as much as we wanted and it was frustrating.
"I think we do try to mix it up, playing long ball when it's needed, but I can't see us doing it as much in the rest of the season."
Hill continued: "We shouldn't be worried about these draws. I just think we've been playing some good teams, or teams that have just come in to a bit of form or are struggling and need to get a result.
"We are still creating chances, but are probably not quite as ruthless as we were six or seven games ago. We know we need to be more clinical.
"We know the wins will come again and if this is the so-called blip, at least we're not losing games. I can understand the other side, where we would be better off if we were to forego the unbeaten run, lose a few games and win the rest."
Hill echoed his manager's belief that the way to get back on the goal standard is for the whole team to chip in.
"I think it's definitely a case of us spreading the goals around more," he said. "We've all had chances. I've had a couple where I should have done better and Gorkssy [Kaspars Gorkss] has scored a couple.

Yann Tear/Ealing Gazette - QPR defender Clint Hill happy to be chasing Cardiff City CLINT HILL believes being knocked off top spot could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Rangers.
The 1-1 draw with Burnley at Loftus Road on Saturday allowed Cardiff City to overtake the Hoops, even if the Rs extended their unbeaten start to 14 games.
“I think we've got to use it as a positive really,” the defender said.
“We've got to look at it now that we are the ones chasing and have to go out and play well to keep up with the leaders, and I think we will.
“Hopefully now we've got something to chase, we'll kick on and start getting wins rather than draws.
“The other thing is that as nice as it is when you're top, a lot of teams raise their game and make it harder for you. Teams have been sitting back a little bit when they come to Loftus Road.”
Hill added: “Let's not forget that it's the top two who go up and that's where we'd like to be by the end of the season. Being top would be an absolute bonus, but there's a big reward for second place.” Ealing Gazette

Shaun Derry is relishing the prospect of chasing down table-toppers Cardiff City and insists the R's need to take stock of what he describes as a 'great' start to the campaign.
Despite going 14 games unbeaten since the start of the season, the Hoops have drawn their last four in the npower Championship.
However, Derry - who has been in outstanding form in the R's midfield engine room - is enjoying every minute.
"We've just got to take the rough with the smooth - that's the nature of football," he told www.qpr.co.uk.
"It's such a long season and nothing is won or lost in November or December. It only really starts to take shape in the New Year.
"We've just got to calm down and take stock of the situation.
"We're second in the table and unbeaten since the start of the season.
"Even when we were six or seven points clear, we were under no illusions that the hard work was still very much ahead of us and nothing has changed in that respect.
"We've set a precedent here so far this season.
"We had meetings in pre-season discussing what we wanted to achieve and one thing we were insistent upon was being a very strong and consistent side.
"We've shown that side to our game by going on a 14 match run and long may it continue."
Cardiff's 3-2 win against Norwich City last weekend saw them replace Rangers at the summit of the table for the first time this season, but Derry isn't about to press the panic button.
"It's easier when you're chasing," he said.
"I've been in sides when we've been struggling and we've gone to top teams and raised our game by another 10-15 per-cent. That's what teams have been doing when they've been coming to Loftus Road recently and now Cardiff will have a similar thing when sides go to their place.
