QPR OFFICIAL SITE - VINE ON THE MEND
- Rowan Vine could be in contention for a First Team return 'by the end of the month,' following recent keyhole surgery in his stomach.
- Vine - who was sidelined earlier this season with a hernia problem - complained of slight discomfort in his stomach area a few weeks ago and on the advice of a Leicester-based specialist, the Club decided to send him for surgery.
- The surgery, which took place last Tuesday, detected some loose scar tissue, but that's now successfully been removed and all things being equal, Vine should be back in training by the end of the month.
- Head Physio, Paul Hunter, told www.qpr.co.uk: "It's was minor surgery and Rowan is already feeling a lot better.
- "He's on the mend and should be back training in the next couple of weeks." QPR

Motorsport.com - Briatore 'welcome' to return to F1 - Ecclestone
Flavio Briatore is welcome to return to the F1 paddock after winning his French court action against the FIA's imposition of a lifetime motor racing ban, Bernie Ecclestone has said.
The F1 chief executive, a personal friend and business partner of the 59-year-old Italian, was speaking after Paris' Tribunal de Grande Instance ruled on Tuesday that there had been "irregularities" in the imposition of Briatore and Pat Symonds' crashgate penalties.
"I said at the time that even murderers don't get life sentences these days and the court seems to agree," Ecclestone is quoted as saying by the UK newspaper Express.
"He is welcome to come back to the paddock. He was a great character in F1 but I am not sure if that is what he wants to do now.
"I think he will move on from that. It's good for him but it is not good for the FIA when you read the verdict," Ecclestone added.
In the Sun, the 79-year-old Briton said in relation to Briatore: "He's happy he's won, of course. But I don't think he wants to be back. It's difficult for somebody who's been punished for doing something wrong to get back."
It is believed that while Briatore may not return to running F1 teams for now, he will resume his management of drivers while devoting more time to the London football club Queens Park Rangers.
But the FIA, now run by Jean Todt who last year succeeded Max Mosley, clarified that Briatore is not yet free to return to motor sport.
"The Court's decision is not enforceable until the FIA's appeal options have been exhausted," read a statement. "Until then, the World Motor Sport Council's decision continues to apply."
The Paris body added that the court did not disagree that Briatore and Symonds conspired with Nelson Piquet to crash deliberately during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, but rather only questioned the bans "for procedural reasons".
"The FIA's ability to exclude those who intentionally put others' lives at risk has never before been put into doubt and the FIA is carefully considering its appeal options on this point," the FIA said.
Briatore said he has no intention to immediately come back to F1 anyway.
"My attention is on my family then we'll see," he told Italian television RAI.
Ecclestone expects the saga to continue to develop.
"It's not over by a long way," he said. "Just because a bloody judge has said what he's said doesn't make any difference.
"The court said it was wrong, so the FIA can start all over again and it will go on and on."
Briatore's lawyer Philippe Ouakrat, who ironically represented Mosley during the sex scandal of 2008, predicted it would be "very difficult" for the FIA to win an appeal.
"I think the decision is very well-structured. It is going to be very difficult for the FIA to appeal against it," he told the Guardian, adding that there is "a door open" to even more legal action. Motorsport.com

FIA vows to stop Flavio Briatore returning to Formula One• Fury as French court overturns lifetime ban
• Pat Symonds's five-year F1 suspension lifted
Motor sport's governing body tonight vowed to find a way to prevent Flavio Briatore from returning to Formula One, despite the Italian overturning a lifetime ban for his part in the Crashgate scandal in a French court yesterday.
The FIA indicated that it will appeal against the judges' ruling in favour of the former head of Renault's Formula One team. Briatore reacted to his victory by opening the door to a sensational comeback but the FIA later suggested it would attempt to amend its rule book to keep him out and noted he remains banned until its appeal options have been exhausted.
The governing body said it "intends to consider appropriate actions to ensure that no persons who would engage, or who have engaged, in such dangerous activities or acts of intentional cheating will be allowed to participate in Formula One in the future".
Briatore was excluded from participation in all forms of international motorsport for his part in fixing the outcome of the 2008 Singapore grand prix, during which Nelson Piquet Jr was told to crash into a wall in order to improve the chances of his team-mate Fernando Alonso. A French court today found that the FIA did not have the power to impose such a penalty and suggested there was a conflict of interest due to Max Mosley, the then president of the FIA, already being in dispute with Briatore.
"Let me take a little time to enjoy this moment of happiness after this difficult period," Briatore told Autosport.com, refusing to be drawn on when or whether he might return to the sport where he won championships with Benetton and Renault in a career spanning more than two decades. "As concerns my possible return to F1, there is plenty of time to talk about this."
The former Renault team principal, who also owns a majority stake in Queens Park Rangers, expressed "great joy" at the verdict and said it had been a "difficult decision" to take the case to the French civil courts but he had no other choice. "The decision handed down today restores to me [my] dignity," he said.
Briatore could not literally be banned as team principals do not hold licences but the FIA had forbidden all its licence holders from dealing with Briatore last September. Pat Symonds, Renault's former technical chief, also had his five-year ban lifted. Briatore had sought damages of €1m (£890,000) but was awarded €15,000 in compensation as well as Italian fails asking that the sentence be lifted. Symonds was awarded €5,000. "It is almost exactly what we had asked for, this is obviously an exceptional outcome for Mr Briatore," his lawyer Philippe Ouakrat said. Ouakrat claimed that the judgment was "extraordinary" and could have serious implications for the future of the FIA. He said it was not a question of the length of the ban or the fact that it limited Briatore's ability to earn a living but simply "an issue of fair justice".
Ouakrat believed it would be "very difficult" for the FIA to win an appeal. "I think the decision is very well-structured. It is going to be very difficult for the FIA to appeal against it. It's a great feeling to see that everything you say is considered right by the court." He said there remained "a door open" for further legal action.
In its judgment, the court said: "The FIA ... can sanction licence holders, leaders, members of the ASNs [national sporting authorities], but it cannot with respect to third parties take measures equivalent to a sanction. The [FIA] World Council, by forbidding FIA members and licensees to work with Messrs Briatore and Symonds, on the one hand added a negative condition – to not work with them – which is not provided for within the FIA statutes."
The judgment added: "The decision of the World Council was presided over by the FIA president, who was well known to be in conflict with Briatore, with Mr Mosley having played a leading role in launching the inquiry and its investigation in violation of the principle of separation of the power of the bodies." Attempts to contact Mosley tonight failed.
The panel of three judges noted that Briatore had been summoned via an email only three days before the FIA hearing, had not been told why he had been charged and that the governing body had not sent him any documents regarding the scandal. Had the ban been upheld, Briatore could have been forced out of Queens Park Rangers under Football League fit and proper person rules, which prevent anyone who has been banned by another sports governing body from owning a club. The verdict will allow Briatore to continue managing the Formula One drivers Mark Webber and Heikki Kovalainen and, in theory, could led to his return to the pit lane.
Briatore will not return to Renault, the Anglo-French team today announcing his full-time replacement. Eric Boullier, a 36-year-old Frenchman with no F1 experience, is as different from Briatore as it is possible to be. Briatore specialised in the commercial aspects of F1 and knew nothing about the technical side.
Boullier's extensive background in the junior formulae, including GP2 and A1GP, focused on engineering and team management. Boullier's appointment allows Bob Bell, the temporary team principal, to return to his role as full-time technical director at Renault F1. Guardian
The Sun MICHAEL SPEARMAN
- FORMULA ONE cheat Flavio Briatore has had his lifetime ban lifted - plunging the sport into chaos.
The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris ruled the Italian's ban for fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix was illegal.
But Briatore's friend and grand prix supremo Bernie Ecclestone reckons Briatore will not attempt a comeback - and warned the Crashgate scandal is not over yet.
Team chief Briatore had ordered Nelson Piquet Jnr to crash to help fellow Renault driver Fernando Alonso win the race.
Ecclestone, a member of the World Council which banned Briatore, said: "It's not over by a long way. Just because a bloody judge has said what he's said doesn't make any difference.
"The court said it was wrong, so the FIA can start all over again and it will go on and on."
Ecclestone, who spoke to Briatore yesterday, added: "He's happy he's won, of course. But I don't think he wants to be back. It's difficult for somebody who's been punished for doing something wrong to get back."
- Briatore, 59, is manager to double world champ Alonso, now at Ferrari, and Red Bull's Mark Webber.
The decision means he is free to continue in his role as co-owner of Championship outfit QPR with Ecclestone.
But ex-F1 star John Watson, 63, blasted: "This decision leaves F1 in a mess. What happens if he gets his own team together somehow? Will the FIA be able to ban him?
"If they had just banned him for five years, that would have been the end of him anyway."
Brazilian Piquet blew the whistle on the scandal after being sacked last July for poor results.
He revealed Briatore and technical director Pat Symonds ordered him to crash, forcing the safety car on, which helped Alonso win as his rivals had to pit.
But billionaire Briatore claimed the World Council hearing was a 'sham' and had been led by then-FIA president Max Mosley, with whom he was in dispute.
Briatore, who was not in court, was awarded 15,000 euros in compensation, having demanded 1m.
The judges' statement said: "The decision was taken while the council was chaired by (Mosley), who had notoriously come into conflict with Mr Briatore.
"Mr Mosley played a key role in the legal process, violating the principle of a separation of the bodies responsible for the investigation and for the judgment."
The FIA's lawyer indicated the governing body might appeal.
Symonds' five-year sentence was also overturned. He was awarded 5,000 euros in compensation.
Briatore said: "I'd like to express my great joy with the decision." The Sun

Ex-QPR CEO David Davies Profiled/Interviewed
Otago Daily Times - Hard school of experience
By Chris Morris and David Loughrey on Wed, 6 Jan 2010
- Few would argue Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium is one of the city's most ambitious - and controversial - civic projects. But what about the man at the centre of it all? Reporters Chris Morris and David Loughrey talk to David Davies about his past and his plans to make the stadium work.
A few years ago, David Davies - the man tasked with making a success of Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium - stood before a High Court judge in London.
He clutched a Bible and swore to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
The then chief executive of English football club Queens Park Rangers explained why the proud old club should take an offer of a 10 million loan - a deal aimed at averting financial ruin.
At the time, mid-way through 2002, the club's finances were in a bad state.
The club was in financial administration, with a court-appointed administrator given one year to run the club while attempting to fix its affairs.
The loan offered was far from ideal - at 10% interest, it would cost 1 million each year and place a heavy burden on the club's shoulders for years to come.
However, the deal was also a last resort - the period of administration was coming to an end and, without it, the 127-year-old QPR faced the prospect of being unable to field a team the following season.
The judge, in robe and wig, approved the loan and Mr Davies left the courtroom for the steps of the court, to be grilled by English media.
Fast-forward to the present day, and Mr Davies (51) already looks at home in the boardroom of the Carisbrook Stadium Trust office in Dunedin.
It is an office he now occupies as the chief executive of Dunedin Venues Management Ltd, the company established by the Dunedin City Council to run Forsyth Barr Stadium and other council venues.
His appointment in October was heralded as "critical" by Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin, who cited Mr Davies' extensive management experience.
And his CV certainly is impressive - starting with a BA in sports studies, a masters in business administration and stints as a venues manager for the Leicestershire County Council and later Leicester City Council.
In 1993, he shifted to Ogden Entertainment, as a project manager and later managing director, overseeing the completion of the Manchester Arena - the largest indoor venue in Europe, with space for 21,000 people.
In 2000, he joined the QPR football club as chief executive, and from 2004 filled the same role for the London Wasps rugby club.
Most recently, he was managing director of DHP Group in Nottingham, an entertainment company running venues and ticketing, concert promotion and band management operations.
Now, following an international search and the swish of a pen, he has become the DCC's second highest-paid employee, with a salary of up to $250,000 a year.
However, it is his time at QPR that he credits with helping sharpen his skills.
In an interview with the Otago Daily Times, he talked candidly about his career, including his turbulent time with the club, and described his High Court appearance as "incredibly humbling".
He also talked about the challenges ahead, displaying an obvious eagerness to get stuck into them in his adopted city of Dunedin.
Eagerness or not, however, it seems the QPR loan he argued for all those years ago just will not go away.
Mr Davies credits the deal with helping save the club but in 2005, the club's new chairman, Bill Power, described it as "scandalous".
It was a view mirrored by some posting on the club's dedicated internet fan sites as well as some media, and now the claims are swirling again - this time in Dunedin.
An email sent to media and others by Dunedin woman Pat McCarty - a vocal opponent of the stadium and occasional cartoonist - questioned Mr Davies' abilities based on his links to the club's controversial loan.
Given the history, she asked: "Can Mr Davies deliver . . . or have the ratepayers been sold a `pig in a poke'?"Mr Davies, for his part, said he understood why the questions continued to follow him.
"I fully understand there will be people sitting on the sidelines saying `perhaps you shouldn't have done it'.
"You have to be pragmatic about it. You know people are going to ask questions. In reality, I'm very proud of my time there [at QPR]."
He insisted the club had, soon after his arrival as chief executive in 2000, found itself in a situation that left few options.
Within months, the club had been relegated to English football's third tier, the manager and chairman had resigned and sources of revenue - including money from television broadcasting - were drying up, he said.
Left behind was a top-heavy roster of 60 players expecting wages, and losses that in April 2000 reached 570,000 a month.
Entering administration in mid-2001 - a move recommended by Mr Davies - provided some breathing space for the club, he said.
The administrator, Ray Hocking, was appointed by the High Court, and QPR was just one of many clubs needing such services as financial pressures mounted, Mr Davies said.
However, by mid-2002 the club had failed to attract a wealthy new investor, and a bank loan was also out of the question, he said.
"Football at the time was not the flavour of the month on the High Street. Banks up and down the country wanted to foreclose on football clubs. Going to them and saying `can we take a mortgage?' was never going to be an attractive proposition."
With a sink-or-swim deadline approaching, the administrator recommended the 10 million loan to the club's remaining advisers, including Mr Davies, he said.
That was despite the 10% interest rate, which Mr Davies said was above the 7% going rate at the time but reflected "the difficulties of handling football clubs".
It was also without knowing the money came from a convicted criminal - something revealed by English media later.
The loan came from the ABC Corporation, a company registered in the tax haven of Panama.
In 2005, the Independent newspaper revealed the man behind the company's money was former Nissan UK managing director Michael Hunt.
Mr Hunt had been sentenced in 1993 to eight years in prison for his role in Britain's largest tax fraud, the Independent reported.
Mr Davies said he never met Mr Hunt and was unaware he was the source of the club's much-needed cash injection, knowing only the name of the company and its directors.
"We didn't know at the time the characters behind the directors. That came out later on," he said.
He was aware of the terms ABC offered, but insisted while the loan "wasn't great" it remained "the only game in town".
"Had we had other options we would have looked at them . . . [but] nobody would have thanked us for saying `no thank you'."
In 2005, club chairman Bill Power told Independent football journalist David Conn: "It is scandalous that we've been saddled with this debt, from a Panama corporation of all places, at such an outrageous interest rate."
However, others defended Mr Davies' role, including Conn himself, now writing for the Guardian newspaper.
Conn told the ODT by email he did not think Mr Davies was "generally held by QPR fans as responsible" for the club's woes.
"I think they regarded him as a decent and competent professional trying to steer the club out of a horrible financial situation.
"I must say that I have always found him good to deal with, very straight compared to most people in this field, and a man who seemed to be trying to do his best."
Dave Thomas, editor of the A Kick Up The R's QPR fanzine, which regularly interviewed the club's key figures, said he considered Mr Davies a "typical chief executive".
"A crook and a charlatan, by implication? I doubt it very much."
Mr Davies left the club in 2004 to become chief executive of the London Wasps rugby club, but said he left with "a clear conscience" after boardroom disagreements with an incoming wealthy investor.
"Ultimately we saved the club when we were faced with the Football League telling us a deal had to be done," he said.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Mr Davies said it was an "incredibly fast learning curve" but one that would help in his quest to make Forsyth Barr Stadium a success.
He tried to avoid surprises, had developed a hands-on but "human" management style, and looked forward to engaging with critics, he said.
"I think one thing I bring to every job I have had since has been developed out of a fairly hard school." ODT

- Martin Allen has been offered the chance to work for QPR in a scouting role.
- Allen, who made over 150 appearances for Rangers as a player, has been out of the game since his spell as Cheltenham manager ended last month.
- Rangers’ scouting set-up has been minimal in recent years, to put it mildly.
Most people associate scouting with looking at players, but looking at teams is the most urgent requirement and the bread and butter of most involved in scouting.
Think of a successful club, especially one with a small budget or unspectacular-looking team on paper, and it’s guaranteed that they are very strong in this area. It’s so important.
Iain Dowie made some desperately needed changes during his short time as manager, when he almost had to start from scratch.
Paulo Sousa, helped by Gareth Ainsworth, continued to make the best of a skeleton set-up and make improvements where possible.
More recently, John Gorman oversaw this area while Jim Magilton was at Rangers.
The departure of Gorman along with Magilton has left the incoming manager with a potential headache.
And arriving around Christmas, when matches come thick and fast, has not helped Paul Hart in that respect.
The limited structure in place before Magilton’s departure is largely still in place. The club’s ProZone operation, for example, is unchanged.
But Hart needed an extra pair of eyes and ears in the field, and Allen is an experienced football man.
It’s not a big deal. These informal appointments happen all the time and don’t mean too much, although QPR – no doubt keen to prove their set-up is not as bad as some claim – have been known to trumpet the arrival of scouts.
But it’s worth mentioning because Allen served Rangers as a player and his role at least shows Hart has been able to make changes behind the scenes.
In the longer term, the club needs to do a lot more in this area to have any chance of seriously challenging for promotion. Simply throwing money around won’t do.
Other Championship sides might not have QPR’s money but are bubbling along quite nicely with infrastructures far superior to Rangers’, and this is part of the reason why success continues to elude the club despite their big spending.
Last summer the appointment of a chief scout or a head of recruitment was discussed and a number of potential candidates spoke to the club, but nothing materialised.
Rangers need much more than one more scout getting to games. They need a strong team of them and someone to manage that team.
The appointment of a chief scout would be a good move, but even that would be a cosmetic change unless there’s a strong team of scouts for them to manage.
A chief scout isn’t a magic wand for getting better players and being well prepared for matches. There has to be a pool of information from a team of people for the person in that role to then follow up and report on to the manager and board.
Gianni Paladini’s arrival at Rangers in 2004 was followed by a change of direction in which the scouting set-up was reduced.
That doesn’t necessarily means that Paladini, now with the title of sporting director, is a barrier to building this area of the club five years on.
Ultimately, it is the owners who must make these changes happen - and they haven’t seemed interested. BBC606

Flavio Briatore's position as QPR chairman and co-owner looks to be no longer under threat after his ban from motor sport was overturned.
The controversial Italian, 59, was the subject of the Football League's fit and proper person test having been banned by the FAI over his part in the Renault F1 'crashgate' scandal.
League rules state that an individual cannot be a director at a club if they are banned by another sport's governing body.
But now the former Renault boss has been successful in his appeal, the League have no grounds to attempt to disqualify him from his role at the west London club. Teamtalk
UPDATE: Reuters: *Court throws out FIA's ban *FIA ready to launch appeal after rigged Singapore race - By Bertrand Boucey
PARIS, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Flavio Briatore, former boss of the Renault Formula One team, had a life ban imposed by the sport's governing body overturned by a French court on Tuesday.
The Italian was banned by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in September for his role in a plot to rig the outcome of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
"The court ruled the sanction was illegal," the judge told the Paris court. Briatore was awarded 15,000 euros ($21,680) in compensation.
The FIA's legal team said it would probably be launching an appeal.
Brazilian Nelson Piquet blew the lid off one of Formula One's biggest scandals after being dropped by Renault in July when he told the FIA that he had been ordered to crash deliberately at the 2008 race in Singapore.
He said he had done so to bring out the safety car and help his Spanish team mate Fernando Alonso win the race.
Former champions Renault were handed a suspended permanent ban while engineering head Pat Symonds was banned for five years.
Briatore launched his legal case in October, claiming his right to a free and fair defence to the charges was flouted.

Irish Independent - Briatore faces appeal fate
- FLAVIO BRIATORE is expected to learn this afternoon whether his lifetime ban for race-fixing will be overturned by the French courts.
- The former Renault team principal is suing motorsport's governing body, the FIA, after he was found guilty by its world council last September of ordering Nelson Piquet Jnr to crash deliberately at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to help Fernando Alonso win the race.
-Pat Symonds, Renault's former director of engineering who received a five-year ban for his role in the scandal, has also appealed to the Tribunal de Grande Instance.
- Briatore, who is seeking a €1m in damages, claims the ruling was a "legal absurdity" and that the FIA was used by former president Max Mosley as "a tool to exact vengeance" following disagreements between the pair last summer that led the teams to threaten to start their own series.
- If the ban is upheld, Briatore could be forced to give up his co-ownership of QPR under the Football League's "fit-and-proper persons" rule. Independent/Ireland
SPORTING LIFE - BRIATORE TO DISCOVER FATE
- Former Renault team boss Flavio Briatore will discover today whether his appeal against a lifetime ban from motor racing imposed by the FIA is to be overturned.
-Briatore's lawyer Philippe Ouakrat has outlined his client's assertion the punishment handed down by motor sport's governing body in September was illegal. The 59-year-old Italian is also demanding damages of just over £900,000.
- Briatore was involved in a conspiracy which saw Nelson Piquet Jnr deliberately crash his car at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix in order to help team-mate Fernando Alonso take the win.
- Briatore claimed former FIA president Max Mosley was "blinded by an excessive desire for personal revenge" in pursuing the case, and believes the FIA did not have legal grounds to issue him with a wholesale ban from motor sport.
- "The decisions to carry out an investigation and to submit it to the World Council were taken by the same person, Max Mosley, the FIA president," Briatore said in a statement in November.
- The statement added that Mosley "assumed the roles of complainant, investigator, prosecutor and judge" in what Briatore claimed was a breach of the "most basic rules of procedure and the rights to a fair trial".
- Briatore's claim the FIA World Council chaired by Mosley was out for "personal revenge" stemmed from his involvement in plans for a breakaway series, an issue which rumbled on through much of last season before an agreement was reached for manufacturers to stay in Formula One.
- Renault's former executive director of engineering Pat Symonds also appealed against his five-year ban for involvement in the scandal. Sporting Life

Both 13-year-olds will get an opportunity to train with their counterparts at the QPR. “If they are good enough they may even get an opportunity to represent the club in the future,” academy coach Stephen Gallen said.
- Ishan Saksena, CEO of QPR academy, said the club’s intent is to unearth talent from places where it is least expected from.
Expectedly, both teenagers were excited about the opportunity. Fernandes and Vahanvaty are in eighth standard and study in St Paul’s HS and St Mary’s HS, respectively.
“I think the attention to details in their training will make a huge difference in my game,” said an articulate Vahanvaty. Shaun appeared overwhelmed and all he could say was that he wanted this stint to help him don Indian colours.
But this isn’t their first taste of international exposure. While Shaun had been to Barcelona for a youth programme by his club Kenkre FC, this will be Vahanvaty’s second trip to London. He had previously been there for a 10-day training programme with an academy through his club PIFA.

TEamtalk Briatore wins appeal

BBC - QPR look to offload Italian pair
- QPR have told Italian duo Matteo Alberti and Alessandro Pellicori they have no future at Loftus Road.
- Winger Alberti, 21, who signed a four-year contract when he joined the west London club from Chievo in 2008, has started just six league games.
- He is expected to leave Rangers in the near future along with Pellicori, who has scored just once in 10 games.
- Pellicori, a 28-year-old striker, was signed on a three-year contract from Avellino in the summer. BBC
Dave McIntyre/Kilburn Times - Quashie set for Rangers return
NIGEL Quashie could be on his way back to QPR, who are also closing in on the signing of Portsmouth goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown.
Quashie, sold to Nottingham Forest for £2.5m in 1998, has recently been on loan at MK Dons from West Ham.
Rangers had the opportunity to take him on loan earlier in the season but decided against the move, partly because of concerns over his fitness.
But Quashie has impressed for Milton Keynes and Rs manager Paul Hart is interested in signing him.
Rangers are likely to take the player on a contract until the end of the season if he can agree his release from West Ham, where he is out of the first-team picture.
It would be a similar deal to last term's signings of Jordi Lopez and Liam Miller, whose stay at the club was ultimately not extended.
Quashie told the Times only last month: "QPR is a club that I love dearly, they are my club and I still go and watch them when I can."
Hart is also close to securing the services of Portsmouth reserve stopper Ashdown, whose Fratton Park contract expires later this year.
Ashdown, 29, has made three first-team appearances for the Premier League club this season and could replace Radek Cerny in goal for Rangers' home match against Plymouth on Saturday if a deal to sign him can be agreed.
Rangers have also made enquires about striker Danny Webber - signed for Portsmouth by Hart last summer - and Stoke's out-of-favour midfielder Amdy Faye.
Hull's Caleb Folan, a perennial QPR target in the last year or so, is again being considered now the transfer window has opened, but he is currently nursing an injury.
Rangers have also expressed an interest in taking Fulham forward David Elm on trial ahead of a possible move.
The Swedish target man, who turns 27 this week, joined Fulham in the summer but has made only one first-team appearance.
Meanwhile, Italian duo Matteo Alberti and Alessandro Pellicori have been told they have no future at QPR.
Winger Alberti, who signed a four-year contract in 2008, has been offered to a number of Italian lower league clubs.
Striker Pellicori, who moved to west London earlier this year, is also set for a move back home after failing to make an impact

"But they are extremely successful businessmen and I wouldn't have thought they are going into this too lightly. They have bought Luigi de Canio from Italy as manager; he's obviously a man who knows his stuff, and the results in the last couple of weeks would bear that out..."

Paul Hart was pleased to see his QPR side secure a 'deserved' replay, as honours ended even at Bramall Lane.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Hart said: "We're disappointed we didn't win it.
"Defensively we were very strong and we always looked a threat, showing plenty of fight.
"Away from home we put in a very strong performance. It wasn't always pretty, but I don't think FA Cup matches necessarily are at this time of the season.
"To be honest, we felt we could win the game."
Jay Simpson put the R's ahead, only for United to draw level on the stroke of half-time courtesy of Richard Cresswell.
Hart added: "We were disappointed with the goal, with it being so late in the first half.
"But to be fair to the lads, they recovered well and withstood the pressure they put us under at times in the early part in the second half.
"We came strong after that and we're in the hat for the fourth round, so we can't be too disappointed."
Hart concluded by confirming he hopes to bring new faces to the Club in the January transfer window, adding: "We're hoping to do some business.
"I've only been here a short time, three weeks or so, but hopefully we can bring in a couple of players to add to the squad." QPR

Kevin Blackwell rued a series of missed chances and the lack of a lucky break in the draw with QPR as his team missed an opportunity of claiming a 4th round place in the FA Cup draw.
The Blades fell behind but clawed their way back through Richard Cresswell's header before the break and the United boss felt his team did enough to merit a win:
"We had the better chances and hit the bar twice but sometimes it just doesn't happen for you. We really went for it and my only frustration is that we were not clinical enough in the final third."
Henri Camera tormented the visitors backline as the focal point of United's attack and Blackwell admitted that the Senegalese striker could emerge as an influential player in the months to come:
"He has good awareness and can create something out of nothing but I am aware that we have to tread carefully with him until he becomes fully fit.
"My heart is in my mouth when he stays on and starts to tire because I don't want him to pick up an injury because he could eventually be the missing link we are looking for.
"But we have three or four back shortly and hopefully I will be able to rotate the squad and give him a rest when he needs it.
"We have Walker, Henderson, Naysmith getting back to fitness, plus Harper, Stewart and Williamson to get fully fit so then we won't be too shoddy."
Matt Kilgallon was replaced at half-time by new loan signing Marcel Seip, a substitution made purely by the fact that Kilgallon was carrying the effects of an injury:
"Matt had strained a hamstring earlier in the week and really wanted to play, but if he had carried on and suffered more damage he would have been out for six weeks so I was looking after him - whether he stays with us or not." Sheffield United

The R's and Sheffield United will battle it out again in an FA Cup third round replay after honours ended even at Bramall Lane.
Jay Simpson's tenth goal of the season was cancelled out by Richard Cresswell on the stroke of half time, as the two sides shared the spoils for the second time in as many weeks.
In a lacklustre contest, neither side did enough to warrant victory, although the woodwork twice denied the Blades.
The replay will take place in W12 on Tuesday 12th January, kick-off 7.45pm.
Rangers Manager Paul Hart made three changes to the QPR side that suffered a 3-0 reverse on Monday afternoon at Ipswich Town.
Tommy Williams and Ben Watson dropped out of the starting line-up after returning to their respective parent Clubs after loan spells at Loftus Road, while Adel Taarabt missed the trip due to injury.
That meant Gary Borrowdale, Alejandro Faurlin and Patrick Agyemang all started for QPR.
So, with Radek Cerny in goal, Peter Ramage, Damion Stewart, Kaspars Gorkss and Borrowdale began in defence for the R's.
Wayne Routledge, Mikele Leigertwood, Faurlin and Akos Buzsaky made up a Rangers midfield quartet.
Jay Simpson partnered Patrick Agyemang up front.
In what were ice cold conditions in the Steel City, it was the hosts who had the opening chance to find the net.
After the ball cannoned back into the path of Henri Camara on the edge of the area, he fired his shot off target past the left-hand post.
Soon after, Jamie Ward fired in a magnificent centre from a free-kick to Chris Morgan, who headed only inches wide of Cerny's upright.
The Blades then missed undoubtedly their greatest opportunity to date. Tricky play from Camara down the left ended in that man cutting the ball back to Stephen Quinn 12-yards out, but he could only blast onto the crossbar when it looked easier to find the goal, and the ball was then cleared to safety.
Moments later and the home side were once again on the attack. Andy Taylor flighted a cross into the area which looped over Gorkss to Camara who looked certain to score, only for Borrowdale to prevent the United striker from scoring with a superb tackle.
The R's then had their first chance to find the opening goal of the tie. Buzsaky fired in a free-kick 30 yards from goal, which went comfortably wide of Mark Bunn's right-hand post.
Soon after, Faurlin won the ball in midfield before releasing Simpson 20-yards out, whose stinging effort was saved well down to his right by Bunn.
QPR were now enjoying their best passage of play in the first period. Good play from Routledge and Agyemang on the right-hand side ended with the ball finding Leigertwood, who shot over from 20 yards.
Routledge's initial effort was blocked out only as far as Faurlin on the edge of the penalty box, and his stinging drive was tipped wide by Bunn in the Blades goal.
Moments later, the R's were rewarded for their improved display courtesy of Simpson's tenth of the season.
Routledge inevitably played provider, pulling the ball back from the byline into the path of the Arsenal loanee, who buried an unstoppable low drive into the bottom corner.
QPR's joy was short lived though, and moments before the interval the hosts drew level. Quinn's cross from the right was met by Cresswell, who nodded past Cerny to level matters.
The Blades maintained their attacking momentum after the break. An initial slip from Gorkss allowed Camara to find the space and time to shoot on the edge of the area, but his shot was blocked away by Cerny to safety.
United by now were seeing far more of the ball than Rangers were. Ward's curling effort from just outside the area was only marginally wide of Cerny's right-hand post.
Play soon switched to the other end, where Faurlin's shot from 20 yards was blocked away for a corner.
From the resulting kick, Routledge's centre found Stewart on the volley, but he could only blast wide of the left-hand post.
The second half was devoid of clear-cut chances, with the majority of the play being fought out in the midfield area.
However, the hosts almost took the lead out of nothing with just ten minutes left. Ched Evans' thundering free-kick hit the underside of the R's bar from 35-yards out, before the referee blew for an offside as the ball landed back into the area.
Despite three minutes of added time, the best either side could muster was a weak Camara drive, that Cerny gathered with some ease.

A replay will be needed to see if either the Blades or Queens Park Rangers will play in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
For the second time in 15 days, United and QPR fought out a draw with Richard Cresswell again netting against the Hoops. Stephen Quinn and Ched Evans both struck the crossbar as the Blades bossed the majority of the game.
United's first game was played in freezing temperatures at Bramall Lane and the stalemate will mean the sides will battle it out again on Tuesday 12 January.
It appears that the days of making excessive changes for the cup are over with Blackwell forced into just one alteration to his team that saw out 2009 with a victory. Taylor took the place of hamstring-victim Stewart at left-back, whilst on the bench Harper returned after injury to sit alongside newboy Seip.
Bunn, in the first game since extending his loan deal from Blackburn until the end of the campaign, had to be alert and off his line quickly to stem an early threat from Routledge but, backed by the Kop, United started well.
Morgan had already headed a free-kick from Ward wide before an encouraging move on nine minutes, beginning with a neat lay-off by Evans which gave Camara freedom. He avoided a lunging challenge in the box from Gorkss before laying off and watching Quinn's effort pound back off the crossbar.
United again went close to opening the scoring on 18 minutes when Taylor took his time and picked the right ball, which floated over the head of Gorkss, but Camara was put under pressure from Borrowdale just as he was about to shoot. QPR hit back with long-range efforts from Buzsaky, Simpson and Leigertwood but Bunn was forced into just one save.
The efforts did, however, signal that the visitors were coming back into the game, further emphasised by Bunn directing away another Buzsaky attempt. Cresswell and Taylor were booked within two minutes of each other and soon after QPR grasped the lead. Routledge found space on the right and his low cross was missed by Taylor allowing SIMPSON to sweep the ball home from eight yards.
The Rangers goal prompted the Blades to get back on to the front foot and Camara edged between Faurlin and Ramage but was nudged out of the way by Stewart although the appeals for a penalty fell on deaf ears.
But, in the third and final minute of added time at the end of the half, United recorded a leveller. From a set-piece the visitors failed to clear their lines and when Quinn swung in a ball from the right, CRESSWELL rose highest to head into the top corner of Cerny's net. The goalscorer was injured moments before netting and still looked in pain as his team-mates celebrated with him.
Cresswell did reappear for the second half but Kilgallon didn't and his place was taken by Seip, on for his debut. Looking to continue the momentum, the Blades had the first opportunity after the restart but, after taking advantage of a Gorkss slip, Camara's shot was punched away by Cerny.
On 55 minutes United went even closer but again QPR survived. A neat flick by Camara began a move which ended with Evans laying off to Ward, whose pre-planned slice curled just wide of the post.
Stewart bundled a Buzsaky corner wide for the home side but United were quickly back on to the front foot. Ward almost benefitted from charging down a Cerny clearance and then Cresswell and Camara both had efforts blocked in the same move on 69 minutes.
Despite having the territorial advantage and most of the offensive possession, United's chances dried up and Blackwell introduced Williamson for the final ten minutes in an attempt to nick a winner.
Three sides of Bramall Lane rose to their feet and then groaned simultaneously on 81 minutes. Following the award of a free-kick 30 yards from goal, Evans unleashed a thunderbolt that smashed against the crossbar and hit Cerny on the way out.
In the final ten minutes, Geary was booked, Morgan took a whack to the head, which needed a bit of treatment, and Little was brought on as United's third substitution.
Three minutes of added time brought very little, apart from Cresswell snuffing out Helguson from a free-kick, to ensure that both sides made into the hat for the fourth round draw.

Press Trust of Indian 'Indian football needs a Tendulkar'
Sat-Jan 02, 2010 - Mumbai / Press Trust of India
- India needs a Sachin Tendulkar-like role model in football for kids to take up the game in the country, feels Engliosh club side Queens Park Rangers FC's Youth Development manager Stephen Gallen.
- "For kids to take up football in India, they should have home-grown role models. Having heroes in the English Premier League is OK but you need more local ones to inspire you," Gallen told PTI here.
- "They need to have someone like Sachin Tendulkar is for cricket players. They (kids) flaunt the jerseys of Manchester United, Liverpool, or Chelsea but I haven't seen them wearing jerseys of the local football clubs," he said.
- "While I was growing up, I had two-three players from Ireland who inspired me to take up the sport," he added.
- The 36-year old Irishman, who represented his country in U-18 and U-21 football and has coached QPR FC's U-16 and U-18 team, felt aspiring footballers should practice in a competitive environment.
- "Playing a game in a month is not a solution but they need to practise in a competent environment, that will test them and improve them," he said.
- Gallen is in the city to shortlist two local kids to train with QPR FC for a two-month stint. Thirty school children, including six girls, were selected for the camp during the South Mumbai Soccer Challenge held here last month.
- "The shortlisted kids will get an opportunity to train with their counterparts at the QPR. If they are good enough they may even get an opportunity to represent the club in the future," Gallen said.
- Gallen feels the city's kids have to work hard to match their English counterparts as far as technique and fighting spirit were concerned.
- "Technically, the English kids are better. But one of the reasons for that is these kids start their training at a very young age. Besides, football is very popular in England. There is a lot of pressure even in the U-14 matches. The kids there don't hesitate to give it their all," he said.
- "These players (pointing towards the practising players in the camp) love playing too and have some good players. But sometimes I feel that they don't really fight as hard. They need to tackle harder, run harder, shoot harder," Gallen said. Press Trust of India
