Yahoo - [Millwall's CEO] Ambler defends Lions` reputation

Millwall's chief executive Andy Ambler has defended the club's reputation after Tuesday night's violence at QPR.

Police made 11 arrests after trouble flared between both sets of fans before and after the goalless draw at Loftus Road.

But Ambler told Sky Sports News: "We are really disappointed that Millwall's name is associated with these incidents outside the ground.

"I'm thankful these incidents are relatively rare. To put it in context the same supporters went to Cardiff on Saturday and were praised by the police.

"I feel sorry for the loyal Millwall fans who have to put up with this away from home. They are normally very well behaved.

"We do not want to take the passion of Millwall away. The Millwall family is very special. We've done Wembley twice with 40,000 fans without incident - it's a family football club." Yahoo

News Shopper/Paul Green - Jackett: QPR game wasn't overshadowed by trouble

KENNY Jackett says he doesn’t believe Tuesday’s trouble off the pitch spoiled Millwall’s draw at leaders Queens Park Rangers.

The Lions put an end to their losing run with a resolute defensive display to hold QPR 0-0 but the major talking point afterwards were the clashes between both sets of fans before and after the game.

Police made 11 arrests after violence flared but Jackett believes it is wrong to assume either club are to blame for what happened outside Loftus Road.

He told News Shopper: “I don’t think the game was overshadowed, it was a very good game and we contributed well and worked very hard.

“There were 11 arrests but there wasn’t any trouble in the ground at all.

“Our supporters backed their team magnificently and contributed to what was a very good atmosphere.

“I do hear there was trouble outside the ground but it is hard for football to always take responsibility for that.”

Despite the controversy, Jackett was delighted with what he saw on the pitch.

The Lions boss added: “We’ve had two good performances at Cardiff and QPR.

“They were both tough games but Tuesday night was a terrific London derby and we contributed well to a good game.

“To get a point at such a good side gives us something to build on going into a home game this weekend against Burnley.”

Not for the first time this season, keeper David Forde pulled off several fine saves at Loftus Road and Jackett was keen to acknowledge his contribution.

He said: “A lot of people want the opportunity, myself included, to prove themselves in the Championship and David Forde is one of them.

“We would like him to perhaps be less busy sometimes and for the other side’s keeper to be a lit bit busier but when needed it is always important to have a good goalkeeper.

“It is a key position, there is no doubt about that.

“Even in the Watford game, I wouldn’t have put any of the goals down to him, which is quite unusual for a result like that.” News Shopper

QPR Official Site - MACKIE: 'THIS IS A MASSIVE MOMENT'

Jamie Mackie has spoken exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk after today being named in Scotland's squad for their Euro 2012 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Spain.

Mackie's startling form for QPR since his summer arrival from Plymouth brought him to the attentions of Scotland Manager Craig Levein, and now the 25 year-old is preparing himself for his first international appearance.

Mackie, who has netted eight goals in nine league games for the R's, said: "It's a lot to take in. I am extremely proud to be part of the squad and hopefully I can add something to it.

"The season so far has been unbelievable. Any personal accolades I get along the way are a bonus, but the opportunity to play for Scotland is a massive, massive moment in my career.

"I want to grab this chance with both hands."

Mackie qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather, Graham, and the R's No.12 said: "My granddad isn't with us anymore but he was a very proud Scotsman from Kilmarnock, and this is a really special moment for my whole family.

"I am delighted to be given this opportunity.

"I will have a lot of family going to both games. They are all going to be over the moon - and there'll probably be a few people coming out of the woodwork now looking for tickets!"

While many of his QPR team-mates will enjoy a well-earned rest following this weekend's Championship encounter at Crystal Palace, Mackie will be travelling to Prague with the rest of the Scotland squad to face the Czech Republic on Friday 8th October.

Four days later, he will be at Hampden Park for the visit of Spain.

While R's fans may be concerned about Mackie's fitness levels when he returns for Championship duty, the player is convinced the extra games will be of benefit.

"I believe that the more I play, the better I am," he said. "I don't rest very well. I much prefer to be playing football.

"During the last international break I went to Spain with the family. We had a great time but I kept thinking that Scotland were playing, and I would preferred to have been there. And I told my missus that too!

"The Manager has said to me to be sensible and look after myself. I know my body, and I am sure the Scotland medical staff are second-to-none so they will look after any niggles I might get.

"It won't be until after the Palace game that I start to really get excited about it.

"I absolutely love playing for Queens Park Rangers, everyone knows that - and I just can't wait for Saturday's match so I can get out there again."

Herald Scotland/Richard Wilson - QPR’s Jamie Mackie ticks the right boxes for Craig Levein

Jamie Mackie will consider these rich days of acclaim as the return for some hard hours lost to the toil of his career.

He has been irrepressible since moving to Queens Park Rangers last summer and the latest reward, beyond the goals and the sense of esteem, is likely to be a call-up to Craig Levein’s Scotland squad today.

Although born in Surrey, Mackie qualifies through a grandfather from Kilmarnock. The goals – eight in nine Championship matches – are the flourish to a talent that has always been firmly earnest and gritty.

At 5ft 8in, Mackie is not physically imposing and managers have often demanded that he attack from wide positions, but his application is unstinting. Quick and industrious, the 25-year-old is a tireless figure and will bring the qualities that Levein so prizes of workrate and commitment.

“He’s hard-working, a good professional, doesn’t drink, takes good rest. Just because he works so hard, he’s getting better and better every year,” says Mathias Doumbe, the former Hibernian defender who played with Mackie at Plymouth Argyle, his previous club. “The supporters loved him, because at Plymouth they really like players who work hard for the team. I knew he would score goals this season. Knowing him and how he works, he can be a really big asset for Scotland. He’s quite young, so in two or three years he can be a really good player.”

Mackie’s scoring record this season is impressive and he struck twice on his debut for Plymouth. But he has never been considered prolific before – 19 goals in 87 games for Exeter City, 16 in 98 for Plymouth – and the wonder is if this sudden burst of effectiveness is temporary or the result of now performing alongside better players.

“Maybe sometimes he had difficulty with his finishes, but because he worked so much on it, I’m not surprised that he now finishes quite well,” says Doumbe. “Before, he was missing some chances just because of focus or quality, but now he scores a lot more goals than he used to. I thought he was ready to play at a higher level. In training, he was really annoying to defend against because he was always running after you and putting pressure on you. He’s quite fast as well.”

Mackie cost QPR £150,000 during the summer, a fee that will rise to £500,000 if the club is promoted, and manager Neil Warnock was keen to sign the striker after he caused his Crystal Palace defence to become angst-ridden when he was in charge at Selhurst Park last season.

Paul Sturrock once described Mackie as one of the “nuggets from the lower leagues” that he brought to Plymouth as an act of faith. It has taken the player, who began his career at Wimbledon, several years to become established, and although he may not be brilliantly inventive or refined, it is his worth as a solid, reliable player in the midst of a fine run of form that Levein covets.

With James McFadden injured and Kris Boyd likely to be dropped, the squad needs an option in attack. Warnock likened one of Mackie’s headed goals, against Leicester City, this season to one that Nat Lofthouse might score. The comparison is generous to the striker, but he will bring adaptability and a hard-earned spirit to the Scotland squad. They are not qualities that are lacking, but they will complement the current players. Herald

Daily Record/Gavin Berry
QPR striker Jamie Mackie is right man to lead line for Craig Levein, insists Scotland favourite who gave him big break

Paul Sturrock is desperate to see Jamie Mackie complete the remarkable journey from non-league football to facing world champions Spain in just three years.

And the Dundee United legend insists the workhorse striker will make life a misery for superstar stoppers Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol if he's let loose on them at Hampden next month.

It was Sturrock who spotted Mackie plying his trade for lowly Exeter City in the Football Conference League and gave him his break when he took him from the Grecians to Championship side Plymouth.

The 25-year-old frontman has since gone on to win a move to QPR where he has started the season in blistering fashion with eight goals to see him top of the scoring charts in England's second tier.

Now Mackie's incredible rise to stardom could hit a new pinnacle with Craig Levein expected to name him in his squad today for the crucial Euro 2012 double-header against Czech Republic and Spain.

Sturrock has promised that London-born Mackie, who qualifies for Scotland through a grandfather from Kilmarnock, won't let anyone down.

He said: "I signed Jamie from Exeter in the non-league and he's come a long way.

"It is some journey. To go from Exeter to the possibility of taking on the world champions at Hampden for Scotland is incredible.

"I could never have envisaged that happening when I watched him playing non-league football.

"But I'd be delighted for him if he's named in the Scotland squad because he's such a hard worker. Jamie has come from a working background into football. He appreciates the chance he's been given.

"We used to rib him in training about the fact he could play for Scotland. There were a few Scots boys at Plymouth so there was a bit of banter but he took it all in good spirit.

"Jamie's a Londoner but at the end of the day he's a model professional. He's got some great attributes that would benefit the Scotland squad. He realises that it's about work-rate and attitude first.

"He might not be the most technically gifted player but he makes up for that with team work. Jamie will run, chase and harry but he's also quick with a strong upper-body strength and he knows where the goals are.

Threat "He has all the tools to go to the top and I can tell you now if he does play against Spain then Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique will know they've been in a game after 90 minutes against him.

"He won't give them a minute on the ball. His fitness levels are incredible. Jamie will be a thorn in their flesh all night. He was the same playing for Exeter as he is now playing for the team at the top of the English Championship."

Of course, before that glamour clash with Vicente del Bosque's swashbuckling Spaniards, there is the difficult trip to Prague to face the Czechs who are without a point in Group I after an opening home defeat to Lithuania. And from what Sturrock is saying, Mackie could be used as a great outlet.

The Southend United manager said: "Jamie's a very good player away from home. He's good at running channels and working on his own up front.

"Jamie joined us as a centre-forward but I tried to put him on the wing for half of the first season he was there so he had two strings to his bow.

"When Scotland are under the cosh away from home it would be nice to know there's someone there who can get hold of the ball and give people a rest and be a pest - and still have a goal threat.

"He's a boy who makes his own goals. He can turn and drive through a wee space and the next minute he's shooting from 20 yards and scoring goals and that just might be something that's a benefit to the team.

"The players will love him - he's a players' player. I've been pleased to see Madjid Bougherra do well as I brought him through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday and I'm pleased Jamie's done the business too.

"I always felt goals would determine how far he went. He came to a struggling Championship side when he joined us but he's in a better environment now for himself.

"He was always ambitious and said he'd get to the Premiership and he's ready to take that step up. He's always had confidence in his own ability and if he gets a call-up for Scotland there will be no stopping him." Daily Record

QPR and Millwall face fines as FA gathers evidence after crowd trouble
• FA to study footage following 11 arrests around Loftus Road
• QPR manager criticises Football League over scheduling

The Football Association is gathering evidence about the crowd trouble before and after the match between Queens Park Rangers and Millwall last night before deciding whether to charge either club.

"We're in contact with both clubs and gathering footage and evidence," an FA spokesman said.

A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed there had been 11 arrests after outbreaks of disorder in two pubs before the match and on the streets surrounding Loftus Road after it as Millwall fans clashed with police.

"The Metropolitan police service has a great deal of experience in policing high-profile football matches in London," said the spokesman. "We liaised with all clubs [Chelsea were also playing at home] before the event and used intelligence to put into place an appropriate policing plan for last night's match."

QPR's manager, Neil Warnock, criticised the Football League over the scheduling of the match. "It doesn't make sense and you'll never get any sense out of them [football's authorities]," he said. "It will be a computer or somebody who has never kicked a football or thought about fans."

Of the 11 arrests two were for possession of offensive weapons, one for being drunk and disorderly, two for assaults on police, two for public order offences, two for affray, one for common assault and one for an immigration offence.

The FA would charge either club with failing to control their fans only if there was evidence that they had not done everything in their power to control them and assure their safety.

West Ham were fined £115,000 by the FA this year following violent scenes before, during and after a Carling Cup tie with Millwall the previous August that led to 64 arrests. Guardian

QPR vs MILLWALL "AFTERMATH"

Talk Sport/Julian Bennets - FA looking at QPR crowd trouble
The Football Association have asked QPR and Millwall to send them reports on the violence surrounding their goalless draw at Loftus Road on Tuesday before deciding whether to hit either club with charges.

Eleven supporters were arrested as violence before and after the game marred the first meeting between the clubs for almost five years.
Some Millwall supporters managed to break into the home fans’ section after the game, while others fought a running battle with police outside the stadium.
The FA can only charge the clubs over events inside the stadium, and both QPR and Millwall have been given a week to send over documentation to show they did everything possible to prevent the mayhem.

QPR boss Neil Warnock blamed the Football League for scheduling the match on a Tuesday night, with this game coming almost 13 months after Millwall and West Ham supporters clashed during and after their Carling Cup tie at Upton Park.
Millwall were cleared of three FA charges after that game, but could face more if the sport’s governing body decide they didn’t do enough to control their fans.

We have asked both clubs to provide us with reports on Tuesday night’s events, and they have a week to do so

FA spokesperson
"We have asked both clubs to provide us with reports on Tuesday night’s events, and they have a week to do so," said an FA spokesman.
"The clubs have to ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to stop disturbances art games. If they have done so but there was still trouble then no action will be taken."

The FA can only act on trouble inside the ground, with any events outside coming under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police.

A full range of punishments are available to the FA, including forcing both clubs to play a number of matches behind closed doors or issuing large fines. Talk Sport

News Shopper/Mark Chandler - MILLWALL: 'Neither side blameless' in QPR clashes

A MILLWALL supporter claims neither side was completely blameless in the violence at last night’s match with QPR.

Eleven people were held by police after trouble flared before and after the Championship match at Loftus Road.

But Graeme Smale, a board member of the Supporters’ Club and a fan since 1965, said the atmosphere was nothing different to a typical London derby.

He said: “In all this no one side is totally blameless.

“It was a London derby. Millwall are always quite vociferous and other people will react to them.

“QPR started pointing and gesturing at them like they do. If they don’t want any aggravation then they don’t respond.

“There were some aggressive QPR people who wanted to get at Millwall people and that pulled some of these idiots towards them.”

Mr Smale said trouble may have been caused when Lions supporters were let out at the same time as home fans.

He said: “After the game we were held in for a few seconds, then we were allowed out with the QPR lot.

“I believe some of the people who left before me had some sort of dust up with their fans.”

But he denied seeing Millwall fans trying to get into the home end containing women and children, as has been reported.

And he insisted forthcoming games with sides like Crystal Palace would not inevitably lead to violence.

He said: “If the police are doing what they should be doing there won’t be any problem with Millwall this season.” News Shopper

Fulham Chronicle/Adam Courtney QPR riots 'planned months in advance'

Riots between QPR and Millwall football fans in Shepherd's Bush were planned months in advance, it has emerged.

Hooligan internet message boards had boasted of arranged trouble leading up to Tuesday night's match, which was marred by violent clashes both before, during and afterwards.

It is understood police unsuccessfully asked the match to be moved due to Chelsea playing at home at the same time.

And with known hooligans stating their intentions, fans questioned holding the match at night.

QPR supporter Billy Byers was unsurprised by the fighting. "This was being talked about weeks, even months, in advance," he said.

"As soon as I saw the fixture was on a Tuesday night I knew there would be trouble."

Rangers manager Neil Warnock said: "It doesn't make sense but you'll never get any sense out of them (the football authorities)."

Known hooligans with banning orders appeared to be in W12, with an internet video showing some chanting 'we're supposed to be at home'.

Hundreds of riot officers, dogs and horses battled to control the thugs but there were running battles in Bloemfontein Road, the White City Estate, Uxbridge Road, Wood Lane and Shepherd's Bush Green.

Eleven people were arrested as Hoops fans accused the visitors of behaving like 'animals'.

Witnesses posted pictures and accounts on website Twitter, reporting a fan had darts stuck in his chest after rival supporters chucked weapons during the game.

Hours before the game, police formed 'rings of steel' around several pubs, many of which shut at 9.30pm.

Many home fans were penned inside The Coningham for their own safety and missed much of the first half.

Shepherd's Bush blogger and QPR fan Chris Underwood said the delay had caused problems.

"Some QPR morons tried to break through the line – they matched Millwall word for word," he said.

"This was the worst violence I have seen here - there were literally women and children walking through traffic to avoid the trouble."

A Loftus Road stadium worker said children had to flee at the final whistle after away fans charged at them.

"They jumped a wall and ran towards us, there were kids screaming and women and old people trying to get back in the ground."

The police defended its operation, a spokeswoman saying: "We have a great deal of experience in policing high profile football matches in London. We liaised with all clubs before the event and used intelligence to put into place an appropriate policing plan for last night's match." Fulham Chronicle

QPR vs MILLWALL - REPORTS

QPR Drew 0-0 with Millwall before a crowd of just over 15,000 and stay Six points clear at the top - Updated Championship Table

FULHAM CHRONICLE/Adam Courtney - Night of shame as 11 arrested following QPR riots

Football hooligans brought shame to Shepherd's Bush on Tuesday night as they fought running battles before and after the QPR vs Millwall match.

There were reports of major disorder both before, during and after the match, with rival fans engaging in violent clashes along Wood Lane, Uxbridge Road and near Westfield Shopping Centre.

There are as yet unconfirmed reports that a supporter had been stabbed prior to the match, which finished 0-0.

By 11pm police had confirmed they had arrested 11 people for a variety of offences including possessing an offensive weapon, common assault, assaulting police and affray.

They could not confirm how many from each each club had been detained.

Fans and witnesses besieged social networking site Twitter and variously described the area around Loftus Road as a 'war zone', 'bedlam' and 'like being back in the 1970s', with many R's fans accusing Millwall supporters of behaving like 'animals'.

Some said they saw some of the Bermondsey team's fans hitting women and children and there were also reports of a QPR fan with two darts sticking from his chest. Seats were ripped and coins thrown during the game, according to some fans.

A massive police presence descended on W12 before the game, with dogs, horses, riot officers and helicopters deployed to deal with the south London team's notoriously hardcore following.

A video posted on Twitter showed trouble brewing about an hour-and-a-half before kick-off, as a large number of Millwall fans arrived in Shepherd's Bush Green.

Police confirmed there was disorder before the match in the Walkabout bar and The British Queen, while Shepherd's Bush blogger Chris Underwood was caught up in violence at The Conningham Arms.

He said fans were kept in the pub by police to prevent them clashing with Milwall supporters but that things turned nasty when some Rs fans tried to breech the police line, resulting in many fans arriving late at the game.

Mr Underwood said QPR fans had behaved as badly as their Millwall counterparts prior to the match.

He said: "I was actually more ashamed of our (QPR) home grown idiot fraternity, who seemed to match the morons of Millwall word for word."

Millwall fans were eventually escorted to the ground about 45 minutes before kick-off.

Police in west London were stretched due to Chelsea playing a match at home at the same time against French Club Marseille and they were further concerned hooligans from those clubs, as well as Dutch outfit FC Twente, in London to play Spurs on Tuesday, were planning organised fights.

INDEPENDENT/Jon West - Warnock hits out at authorities after Millwall fans run riot

On a busy night for the Metropolitan Police, Millwall succeeded in becoming the first club to come away from Loftus Road with a point this season. Neil Warnock's side still lead the Championship table by a healthy six points and therefore remain on course for a long-awaited return to the top flight.

But Kenny Jackett's Lions deserved praise for their resilience, and also had enough second-half opportunities to have taken all three points. That wasn't the only talking point however, as the occasion was marred both beforehand and directly afterwards by violence.

A heavy police presence was noticeable around the ground before kick-off and helicopters buzzed over it as the game progressed. And on the final whistle, Millwall fans battled with officers outside while others managed to gain access to a section of the home support, reducing women and children to tears.

At least 11 arrests were made, with reports of a public house being significantly damaged nearby filtering back to the ground.

Warnock questioned the decision to stage such a combustible fixture on a Tuesday night, especially as police resources were already stretched by Chelsea's Champions League fixture with Marseilles.

"It doesn't make sense – and you'll never get any sense out of them," he said of the authorities. "It will be a computer or somebody who has never kicked a football or thought about fans."

Warnock was also of the opinion that his side had been sufficiently in the ascendancy to have claimed all three points, and Rangers' first-half performance certainly bore that out.

Millwall goalkeeper David Forde was a busy man, making an early block with his legs to deny midfielder Akos Buszaky after Heidur Helguson, the forward, had headed the game's first chance wide.

The Irishman ended the half with a similar save after Kyle Walker's cut-back had given Jamie Mackie, Rangers' top scorer, a sight of goal.

The Hoops began the second period with vigour but their efforts produced a string of corners rather than a breakthrough goal, especially as Clint Hill wastefully put a free header over from one of them.

The visitors ended the encounter having almost won it themselves, however, as Paddy Kenny, the Rangers goalkeeper, was suddenly needed to keep out efforts from Steve Morison, Danny Schofield and finally Chris Hackett.

Joe Gallen, Millwall's assistant manager and brother of former Rangers favourite Kevin Gallen, was delighted with his players' performance but would not be drawn on the supporters' behaviour.

"I'm only talking about the football because that's all I know about," he said. "We were absolutely delighted not to concede and to get a point."

Daily Mail/Ivan Speck - QPR 0 Millwall 0: Rangers lose perfect home record as battling Lions claim valuable point
-The scheduling of a fiery London derby fixture as an evening midweek match bore ugly consequences at Loftus Road last night.
Two pubs close to the ground were trashed by Millwall fans, who then stormed one of the entrances to the tightly packed stadium after the final whistle to confront a group of home supporters which included women and children.
- Police, who made 11 arrests, then had to contain outbreaks of violence as the two sets of fans spilled into the streets of Shepherd's Bush and nearby underground stations.
- What might have been a hostile atmosphere inside the ground - as QPR failed to score in the league for the first time this season but maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Championship - was helped by the calming influence of referee Lee Probert.

Instead of showing numerous yellow cards he sensibly spoke to players about over-zealous tackles.

However, it will come as no surprise that he still managed to upset QPR manager Neil Warnock.

Probert refused to award a penalty on the half-hour when Millwall defender Darren Ward stuck out a leg and stopped Jamie Mackie in his tracks, prodding the ball away with what appeared to be impeccable timing.

Warnock was furious on the touchline. He said: 'He kicked him but we weren't going to get a penalty tonight unless their player had picked it up and basketballed it.

But I'm so pleased that we played well again. It might be a great point come the end of the season.'

In truth, QPR created few clear chances, the best falling to Heidar Helguson in the opening five minutes when he headed wide.

For the most part, Millwall goalkeeper David Forde was troubled from longer rather than close range, a testament to the visitors' ability to limit QPR to bursts, rather than long spells, of pressure.

Steve Morison might even have won it for the away side 19 minutes from time, but his comparative lack of pace was shown up by fleet-footed full back Kyle Walker, who raced back to dispossess the striker. Mail

Guardian/Paul Doyle - Crowd violence flares while Queens Park Rangers draw with Millwall

Queens Park Rangers remain six points clear at the top of the Championship but lost their 100% home record as Millwall produced a disciplined defensive display that, alas, was at odds with the behaviour of some of the spectators. The police mounted an enormous security operation around Loftus Road in an effort to prevent violence at the first meeting of these rivals for five years but fighting nonetheless erupted before and after kick-off.

Police made at least 11 arrests during an evening in which supporters fought in two pubs close to the stadium and scuffles and missile-throwing broke out in the stands following the final whistle. The arrests included three for assault and two for possessing offensive weapons. A steward said he pulled a dart out of a QPR fan's chest. The Football Association is likely to investigate the trouble inside the stadium.

Warnock suggested the decision to stage such a volatile match at 8pm rather than arrange an early-morning weekend kick-off may have played into troublemakers' hands. "It doesn't make any sense, but you never get sense out of the people who compile the fixtures," he said.

On the pitch, Warnock's side showed their determination to extend their best start to a campaign since 1947 by beginning strongly and could have opened the scoring in the second minute. Kyle Naughton created the chance with a crisp cross from the right but Heidar Helguson, arriving unmarked at the edge of the six-yard box, headed wide.

A swirling long-range shot from Akos Buzsaky forced Millwall's goalkeeper, Darren Forde, to save with his legs. Chances became more scarce after that, however, as the game degenerated into a midfield battle in which neither side gained much ground.

Adel Taarabt is the man to whom QPR have typically turned for inspiration this season but the Moroccan was mostly subdued by the excellent Tamika Mkandawire. On the few occasions Taarabt did manage to wriggle free of his marker QPR looked like breaking the deadlock, most notably on the hour when he swivelled and shot from the edge of the area and brought another good save from Forde.

Steve Morison came close to stealing the points for Millwall following a rare break in the 72nd minute but Paddy Kenny saved his close-range header. "Kenny [Jackett, the Millwall manager] gets the maximum out of his team and he had to tonight to stop us," Warnock said. Guardian

Sporting Life - WARNOCK PRAISES BATTLING LIONS

QPR manager Neil Warnock was quick to praise Millwall after their London rivals battled for a point in a goalless draw at Loftus Road.

Rangers' 100% home record came to an end as the Lions held out for a point thanks to goalkeeper David Forde, who made three fine saves to thwart the hosts.

Warnock's side remain six points clear at the top, however, after their nearest rivals failed to take advantage.

He said: "You've got to give Millwall credit. They defended for their lives. Kenny Jackett gets the maximum out of his team and they needed to be at their maximum, because I thought we were very good.

"Heidar Helguson had a great chance, Clint Hill had a free header and so did Kaspars Gorkss, and if we'd scored then they would have had to have opened up a bit.

"But credit to them, they kept going until the end."

Warnock felt Jackett's men dealt with the threat of playmaker Adel Taarabt better than any other side so far this season, and that that was key.

"They man-marked Adel, and we know that a lot of teams will do that now," he added.

"So what we did was play him as a striker, making his marker play as a centre-back. And I thought Adel did quite well.

"I'm pleased that we played well again. It's another clean sheet for us - I never felt Millwall looked like scoring - and our performance was good. That might be a great point for us come the end of the season.

"I'm happy with how things are going at the moment. The performances have been good, and this was another good display."

Millwall assistant manager Joe Gallen was more than satisfied with a point, saying: "We're delighted to not concede a goal and to have come to QPR and got a point.

"We had a couple of opportunities - their keeper Paddy Kenny made a good save - but we're pleased with the result.

"We thought with Adel Taarabt being the outstanding player in the Championship, we had to try and mark him out of the game. That meant sacrificing a midfielder, but we did well and are happy with how it went.

"To have had three defeats and then played like that against a team like QPR is good for us. We had a disastrous performance against Watford, when we lost 6-1, but at Cardiff on Saturday we played well and were disappointed not to get something.

"Our confidence was restored defensively. Now what we've got to do is continue with that and also add some goals to our performances." Sporting Life

QPR Official Site - Warnock's Comments GAFFER ON MILLWALL

Neil Warnock was pleased with the R's point against Millwall, as Rangers stretched their unbeaten run to a remarkable nine matches.

In a blood and thunder affair at Loftus Road, Rangers created the lion's share of the chances, only to be thwarted in their efforts by a mixture of profligate finishing and David Forde saves.

Warnock told www.qpr.co.uk: "You're going to get games like that over the course of the season and credit to Millwall.

"I was really pleased with the lads tonight.

"We created the best chances, but their keeper made some top saves and we missed a few chances.

"I'm pleased to be coming away with a point and another clean sheet is a bonus too.

"We can't expect to score a hatful of goals every week - it's not realistic."

Despite the goalless draw, Rangers remain six points clear at the summit, prompting Warnock to add: "All the other results went well for us tonight, Cardiff drew and Ipswich lost, and you look at the league and its wide open.

"Most importantly, I thought we played well on the night.

"I can't knock Millwall - they pushed us all the way.

"I never really felt threatened and I didn't think they looked like scoring.

"If anyone was going to nick one, I thought it would be us QPR

TELEGRAPH - Telegraph - Neil Tranis

Derby rivals who had not faced one another for five years had forgotten how to concoct engrossing drama.

Thrills were scant but that will not perturb Queens Park Rangers, who still appear imposing at the head of the Championship with a six-point lead intact.

The contest did provide a canvass for Kyle Walker, on loan from Tottenham, to refine the art of attacking full-back play.

He faded to the fringes in the second half, but in the first, he rampaged down the right. Inside two minutes his cross found Heidar Helguson, who nodded wide.

Millwall detailed Scott Barron to charge back and aid Tony Craig in stifling Walker but the objective was riddled with difficulties.

With half time approaching, the youngster zipped in between them with the lucidity of a top flight winger and found Jamie Mackie, whose effort was blocked by David Forde.

Millwall have suffered demoralisation this season and faced opponents who have negotiated obstacles through flamboyance, tenacity or sheer sturdiness.

QPR boast quite an array of characteristics but they were blunted by Millwall vigorousness. The visitors kept their shape but sprung forward on the break. Paddy Kenny pushed away Steve Morison’s effort.

They defended frantically at times but clung on to claim a noticeable result" Telegraph

QPR OFFICIAL SITE MATCH REPORT

QPR shared the spoils with London neighbours Millwall in a truly captivating encounter at Loftus Road.

Although neither side could muster a winner, chances were certainly forthcoming and the Hoops will count themselves unlucky not to have come away with all three points.

Clint Hill probably squandered the R's best chance to take victory, nodding wide following Adel Taarabt's lovely corner from the right after the interval.

The Lions themselves had chances, not least when Steve Morison forced Paddy Kenny into a splendid second-half save.

Though goalless it remained, as the top of the table R's preserved their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign ahead of their weekend trip to Crystal Palace.

Hot off the back of seven wins from their last eight league matches, the R's remained unchanged for the visit of Kenny Jackett's Millwall.

Kenny resumed in goal for QPR, behind a back four of Kyle Walker, Matt Connolly - who was making his 100th professional career appearance - Kaspars Gorkss and Hill.

Shaun Derry and Akos Buzsaky were in defensive midfield, as top league goalscorer Jamie Mackie, Taarabt and Hogan Ephraim operated further forward.

Iceman Heidar Helguson headed the Hoops attack.

The noise was deafening as the two teams made their way onto the field, with both sets of supporters eagerly anticipating what was sure to be a pulsating local derby.

Neil Warnock's side were clearly relishing the intimidating atmosphere and they got off to a lively start.

Walker's superbly driven cross from right was inch-perfect as it dropped on to the head of Helguson, who was unlucky to see his header go just wide of David Forde's right-hand post.

Moments later, the R's edged even closer. Buzsaky picked up possession 25-yards out before unleashing a rasping effort right at Forde, who did well to beat the ball away from goal.

Loftus Road was rocking - and after Buzsaky fed Ephraim down the left, the midfielder was unfortunate not to find the target when he cut in to fire a low effort just wide of the net.

The Lions started creeping into the affair, however, and after a series of corners, they were far from spectators in this already tasty encounter in W12.

Rangers continued to knock on the door though, and they felt aggrieved not to have won a penalty when Mackie appeared to be brought to the floor unjustly following a high challenge in the box.

Mackie was then in the thick of the action once again just short of the half-time interval.

First, the R's man of the moment blazed high and wide of the bar from ten-yards out, before Mackie could - and probably should - have found the net soon after.

Walker's darting run down the right saw him beat two men before squaring from the byline, and with the goal at his mercy from close range, Mackie could only drag an effort straight at the legs of Forde.

Rangers were again bright at the start of the second period, with Gorkss unable to add to his two-goal salvo against Doncaster on Saturday when he nodded Taarabt's pinpoint corner just over.

Moments later the R's won another corner - and from the resultant kick, they wasted their best chance to date to take the lead.

Taarabt's delivery was beautiful once again - unlike the finish, with Hill only able to head handsomely over the target when unmarked six-yards from goal.

This was somewhat of an R's barricade, and following yet another corner, Helguson was unfortunate not to see his smashed effort from 12 yards find the target, with the Lions' rearguard again on hand to block the shot away to safety.

QPR were firmly on the front foot, and when Derry found Mackie out wide on the right, his teasing centre escaped the attentions of a whole host of Rangers players, with the cross flashing agonisingly across the face of goal.

The R's had to be wary of the Millwall counter attack, and following Danny Schofield's delicious centre from the left, Morison's header at the back post was expertly tipped wide by Kenny.

Both sides pressed for a late winner, though the scores remained the same as the referee brought at end to what had been quite a spectacle - despite the goalless scoreline.

Gutsy Millwall ended a run of three successive defeats with a determined to display to secure a share of the spoils in a feisty derby at Loftus Road.

It was a satisfying return to west London for boss Kenny Jackett, whose side produced effort, endeavour and commitment to become the first team this season to keep a clean sheet against the Championship table-toppers.

Neil Warnock's side may have been in free-scoring form, but full credit to Millwall - and keeper David Forde in particular - for heading south of the river with a good point in the bag.
On a night of high scoring games elsewhere in the division, the only aspect missing from this encounter was surprisingly a goal.

It was Warnock's side who dominated the opening exchanges and with barely 80 seconds on the clock Helder Helguson could and should have handed the Hoops an early lead, but inexplicably steered his header wide of the post from seven yards.
Keeper Forde came to the rescue on seven minutes with a brilliant block to keep out Akos Buszaky's goalbound shot.
It was from Forde's huge upfield that The Lions mustered their first effort on goal a couple of minutes later; Danny Schofield picked up the ball, smartly worked an opening on the right and then delivered a low cross that the onrushing Scott Barron fired wide.

A long throw from Tony Craig was met by Steve Morison whose looping header dropped narrowly off target as Millwall began to get into their stride and get the measure of the home side.
Jamie Mackie was lucky to escape punishment just past the half-hour mark when he, having been denied by an outstanding tackle from Tony Craig, collapsed in a heap on the floor. Having played waved on by referee Lee Probert merely added to his sense of frustration and his dissent to the linesman continued on and off for five minutes afterwards with no card being brandished.

As frustration grew in Rangers ranks, so too did the confidence from The Lions, backed by a vociferous crowd of 2,490 packed in the Schoolhouse End.

Paul Robinson headed wide from a deep Tony Craig free-kick 10 minutes before the break whilst it was the athleticism of Forde at the other end that somehow kept out Jamie Mackie's effort at point-blank range just before the break.

After the restart it was Warnock's men who enjoyed the majority of possession for the opening quarter of an hour; Adel Taarabt drilling an inviting ball across the face of goal that only needed a touch to go in and then Clint Hill powering a header over from one of four corners in quick succession.

Forde produced another stunning save, diving low to his left to parry Helguson's shot for another corner and although the two men got in a tangle as their momentum carried them over the line off the pitch and ref Probert sensibly had a word with both players.

It was the introduction of striker Neil Harris on the hour mark that could ultimately have tipped the balance The Lions' way as the team reverted to a more familiar 4-4-2 system with Chopper providing some much needed support alongside Morison.
A smart move on 66 minutes nearly brought a goal for Harris, only for his sweet left-footer to swerve narrowly wide following good build-up play involving Alan Dunne and Morison.
The hard-working Morison was handed a great opportunity to break the deadlock with 19 minutes remaining, evading the offside trap and bursting into the danger, only to be crowded out as he prepared to shoot.

By this stage The Lions looked more of a threat going forward and as the clock ticked towards the 80-minute mark Schofield's low shot was held by the increasingly busy Paddy Kenny in the home goal.
And it was the former Sheffield United man who somehow kept out Chris Hackett's stinging 88th-minute drive at full stretch, with Hill clearing the loose ball as Harris and Morison prepared to pounce.

However in a pulsating game it was the Hoops who could have nicked it right at the death when sub Patrick Agyemang was allowed too much time and space in a central position. But The Lions unpenetrable defence stood firm for one last time to ensure a thoroughly deserved draw. Millwall

BBC - Warnock's QPR side remain top of the Championship despite the draw

QPR's 100% home record this season came to an end as London rivals Millwall denied the Championship leaders a fifth straight victory.

Rangers have still to concede at Loftus Road this season but they could not breach a resilient Millwall defence.

Lions keeper David Forde made three superb saves to thwart the hosts, who largely dominated proceedings.

QPR remain six points clear at the top of the table after their nearest rivals failed to take advantage.

Rangers were predictably positive from the off and forced Forde into an early save from an Akos Buzsaky shot.

Hogan Ephraim and the league's top scorer Jamie Mackie also put decent chances wide while Millwall were indebted to Forde again when he saved from Mackie with his feet.

The Lions were not without chances of their own though and could have snatched the lead, but Scott Barron's volley was narrowly wide of goal.

Forde was busy once more as the tricky Adel Taarabt drew a fine save from the keeper with a well-drilled shot.

At the opposite end Rangers goalkeeper Paddy Kenny had little to do but he was up to the task when called into action 20 minutes from time, keeping out Steve Morison's far-post header from Tony Craig's cross.

He was also on hand to deny Chris Hackett from 20 yards to ensure honours ended even. BBC

Kilburn Times/Andrew McCorkell - QPR History in 125 years
-
The Queen’s Park Rangers story began in 1885 on a newly built residential estate in West London.

QPR was the result of an amalgamation of two local youth club teams – St. Jude’s Institute (formed in 1884) and Christchurch Rangers (formed in 1882). The merger took place in 1885.

Edward Bottle was headmaster of St Jude’s, the Droop Street board school, when the boys football club was formed by Jack McDonald and Fred Weller supported by the Reverend Gordon Young.

The Christchurch boys club team was formed by George Wodehouse, senior.

The Wodehouse family maintained their connections with Queen’s Park Rangers for more than 60 years with both George Wodehouse, senior, and his son being players and directors of the club.

Mr Wodehouse, senior, played in a match aginst St Jude’s, and was watched by a friend, who suggested a merger between the clubs would be a good idea.

The idea became a reality a few weeks later when some of the Christchurch Rangers members joined St Jude’s.

The new name of Queen’s Park Rangers, suggested by E.D Robertson, was chosen as the members were based in the Queen’s Park district of West London. The surviving members of the Christchurch club continued playing under the name of Paddington.

The colours adopted by QPR were Oxford and Cambridge blue halved shirts and their matches were played on a piece of ground owned by Welford’s Dairy, known as Welford’s Fields, behind the Case is Altered, public house to the south of Kensal Rise station. Rent for the ground was only £8 per annum.

Gordon Macey, the official historian for QPR, said: “In those days they were a local amateur side and they played Brondesbury, Kensal Rise and, I believe, they were at Harvist Road.”

The club’s assets were the four uprights posts and the two lengths of tape to form the crossbar. These were carried to and from the club’s headquarters on match days.

The shorts were provided by a supporter who owned riding stables in Maida Vale. All the players wore riding pants in their first match.

Then there was a move to the London Scottish ground, Brondesbury, in 1888 – for a yearly rental of £20 – and a temporary stay at Barn Elms, in Brondesbury.

Next door was the Kilburn Cricket Club in Harvist Road.

Mr Macey said: “More often than not they upset the neighbours, but another time the landlord put the rent up and the club could not afford to pay it.

“The longest stay was at the agricultural showground in Park Royal at what was originally grounds near the Guinness brewery. Most people have ended up their search with something close to Coronation Road.”

In the transition from amateur to professional status, the team played on 18 different home grounds.

Finally, the club finally turned professional in December 1898 Kilburn Times

MATCH REPORTS: QPR 3 Doncaster 0 - QPR 22 Points from 8 games and 6 points clear

QPR Official Site - GAFFER: 'FAN-TASTIC SECOND HALF!'
- Neil Warnock paid tribute to both his players and the fans, as the R's ran out 3-0 victors against Doncaster Rovers at Loftus Road.

After a goalless first half, a brace from Kaspars Gorkss and a late Adel Taarabt penalty clinched the three points.

"I just thought we had to step up a bit in the second half and we did that," Warnock told www.qpr.co.uk.

"Three or four of our attacking players weren't quite at it in the first half and I told them so at the break.

"But to be fair to the lads, we responded well in the second period.

"The goals came at the right times.

"On the pitch and off it now, we're very much a team."

Warnock added: "I thought the fans stepped up a gear in the second half.

"They got their bums off their seats and roared us on.

"Loftus Road is a great place to play when the fans are raucous like that and it drove us over the line.

"It's great to reward them, because they've been fantastic this season."

Warnock was also keen to pay credit to his back four, adding: "Paddy Kenny made a great save and Clint Hill was on the spot to clear the ball off the line in the first half, and that was massive for us." QPR

QPR continued their stunning start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers at Loftus Road this afternoon.

An unlikely brace from centre-back Kaspars Gorkss and an Adel Taarabt penalty sealed maximum points for Neil Warnock's side, and made it a staggering 22 goals scored in eight games.

In a hard-fought fixture, the R's work-rate was again on show as they battled for every ball, while making the most of their opportunities when they duly arrived.

Gorkss opened the scoring in the first half when he reacted quickest after seeing his initial header from a Hogan Ephraim corner blocked, while Taarabt doubled the lead from the spot when Heidar Helguson was brought down in the box by Donny keeper Neil Sullivan.

Late on, our Latvian defender grabbed his second and Rangers' third with a powerful far post header, Taarabt this time supplying the corner.

Warnock stuck with the same starting XI that served him so well last weekend against Leicester City. Fresh from the 2-0 triumph at the Walkers Stadium, Paddy Kenny continued between the sticks, while the back four, from left to right, consisted of Clint Hill, Gorkss, Matt Connolly and Kyle Walker, who was making his home debut after two excellent performances on the road.

Shaun Derry lined up in front of the back four alongside Akos Buzsaky, while Taarabt played just behind the attack.

Interestingly, the in-form Jamie Mackie operated down the middle, swapping with Helguson who played wide on the right, with Ephraim on the opposite flank.

Doncaster came into the match on the back of a four-match unbeaten run, a good reaction from Sean O'Driscoll's side to the 4-0 defeat they suffered at Cardiff City in August.

While Donny have been strong at home so far this term, they have experienced mixed form on their travels, winning on the opening day at Preston before that defeat in Wales was followed with a 2-2 draw at Watford's Vicarage Road.

The R's went into the game high on confidence after a sensational start to the season which has yielded 19 points from seven games, and the R's nearly had the lead in the opening minute in this match following an almighty goalmouth scramble which eventually fell at the feet of Ephraim, but his drive from six yards was blocked and cleared from dangers.

In the fourth minute, George friend miscued his clearance our of play down the Doncaster left, and Helguson was alive to the opportunity, with a quick throw-in finding Mackie in the area but, despite neat footwork, the R's front man was unable to get a shot away.

The R's enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening 15 minutes but faced a Doncaster side who were disciplined defensively, often having a number of bodies behind the ball.
Considering the start QPR have made to the season, this is something we can expect opposing sides to do at Loftus Road.

But it was the visitors who went closest to opening the scoring on 25 minutes when Martin Woods' stunning free-kick from 22 yards seemed destined for the top corner. Kenny had other ideas, however, and produced an incredible finger-tip save, high to his right.

But the danger wasn't over, with James O'Connor quickest to the rebound from close range. But just as the visitors thought they had broken the deadlock, Hill pulled off an unbelievable, acrobatic goal-line clearance.

On 35 minutes, QPR had their best chance of the game so far, when Walker went on a typical run down the right which Helguson, who had now switched to the centre, picked out with a perfectly weighted pass.

The on-loan Spurs man pulled the ball back for Mackie, but his shot from 10 yards was well saved by Neil Sullivan in the visiting goal.

The half drew to a close with both sides probably feeling they could have had more to show for their efforts.

After the break, QPR took just eight minutes to open the scoring. After some sustained pressure, the R's won a corner on the right.

Ephraim produced an excellent delivery, which Gorkss got on the end of with a powerful header. His initial effort was blocked in a packed six-yard box, but the Latvia captain was quickest to react as he slammed home the rebound to put the R's in front.

Rangers fans were in full voice. With QPR in front, coupled with Chelsea's defeat at Manchester City earlier in the day, the R's were "singing the blues".

The goal seemed to lift the hosts but on 57 minutes the R's had the frame of the goal to thank for protecting their lead. Buzsaky tried to find Walker on the right but his pass was intercepted and, with it, James Coppinger raced down the left before cutting in and curling a beautiful shot beyond the diving Kenny. Fortunately for Warnock's men, it crashed off the crossbar.

It served as a reminder to QPR that this match was far from over against a very good and determined Doncaster side.

With little over 20 minutes to go, the R's almost created the opening for a second. Taarabt went on a typical run in the middle of the park before sliding the ball through for Mackie.

In the area but with his back to goal, Mackie tried to lay off for on the on-rushing Buzsaky, but O'Connor was alive to the danger and cleared.

In truth, chances were few and far between for both sides in a tight affair. However, Rangers thought they had doubled their lead when Taarabt played a delightful ball through a packed penalty area for Ephraim, who coolly slid home. The offside flag was up, however, cutting short QPR's celebrations.

With 15 minutes remaining the outstanding Derry was replaced by Mikele Leigertwood, with the former Crystal Palace man appearing to carry a calf injury as he requested the substitution moments earlier.

While many anticipated this game to be one for the purists, it turned out to be another fixture where hard work and determination were essential. Derry excelled in both.

With ten minutes remaining the R's were given a great chance to increase their lead. Taarabt again picked a perfect through-ball, this time for Helguson, who reached the ball just ahead of Sullivan in the visiting goal.

The R's No. 9 went down under the challenge and referee Mr East rightly awarded a penalty - although, for the third time this season, QPR put the ball in the back of the net by the time they realised they had won a spot-kick!

It was Taarabt who assumed responsibility from 12 yards, sending the keeper the wrong way as he smashed the ball low to Sullivan's right.

At 2-0, the R's faithful were "singing the blues" louder than ever.

At the other end of the pitch, resolute defending from the R's limited Doncaster to shooting from distance, with Woods firing over from the edge of the box.

QPR made it 3-0 late on with another Gorkss goal, this time heading home Taarabt's corner at the far post.

As the game drew to a close, Buzsaky saw his shot from the edge of the box fly wide as QPR's impressive fitness-levels were again evident.

Make no mistake, this was a hard-fought fixture but QPR's incredible work-rate is allowing their star performers to shine while the likes of Derry and Hill quietly - and effectively - go about their work.

Yann Tear/Fulham Chronicle - Gorkss double for QPR sees off Doncaster
THE FIRST goals of the season from Kaspars Gorkss and an Adel Taarabt penalty swept Rangers merrily along towards another three points.

All the goals came in the second half – as was the case against Middlesbrough a fortnight ago – and Gorkss' first was much needed to raise Rangers from their slumber after a docile first half.

The Latvian rose highest to nod an Akos Buzsaky corner goalwards and although a defender got in the way, the ball rebounded kindly for Gorkss to smash in from six yards.

His second came when he headed in a Taarabt corner at the far post on 88 minutes - the ball arriving from the opposite corner to the first.

In between, Adel Taarabt stroked home a second from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time after Heidar Helguson had been upended by Donny's veteran keeper Neil Sullivan.

It should not have come to a spot kick though – ref Roger East having blowing too soon, just as Helguson was recovering his footing to fire into the net.

Rangers were lucky not to be trailing at the interval when only a fingertip touch onto his near post by Paddy Kenny denied Martin Woods a goal from a free-kick and Clint Hill's goal-line clearance thwarted James O'Connor's follow up effort.

It also needed a great block from Shaun Derry inside the area to prevent Donny' Dean Shiels from giving the visitors the lead during a spell in which Rangers had to get plenty of bodies in the way to survive.

Jamie Mackie had few chances to add to his eight goals for the season, but scuffed the best opening of the first half – easily saved by veteran stopper Neil Sullivan – after Kyle Walker had overlapped and sent in a low cross.

James Coppinger hit the Rangers crossbar as Rovers nearly responded immediately to the 53rd minute opener and the muscular running of Billy Sharp gave them hope of rescuing the day.

But in the end, Rangers did not even have an uncomfortable finish to worry about. Taarabt looked more subdued than of late, often running into a cul-de-sac of defenders. But you can't keep a good man down and he converted a penalty that his pass created before Gorkss administered the coup de grace in the final minutes.

Mail - Rangers remain top and extend unbeaten record with comfortable win over Rovers

Kaspars Gorkss scored twice as npower Championship leaders QPR maintained their 100 per cent home record.
The Latvian defender's strike shortly after the break finally broke Doncaster's resistence, and he killed them off with a late header to add to Adel Taarabt's penalty as Rangers edged six points clear at the top.
Neil Warnock's side have yet to concede at home and, with seven wins and a draw from their first eight games, have made their best start to a season since 1947.

Rocking Rangers: Taarabt found the nest from the penalty spot as Warnock's side eased passed Rovers
They endured a frustrating first half, but whatever Warnock said at half-time had the desired effect as the west Londoners finally clicked into gear after the break.
A pedestrian opening period did not spark into life until the 25th minute when Martin Woods' 25-yard free-kick was pushed onto the inside of the post by the diving Paddy Kenny.
The ball fell at the feet of James O'Connor, with Kenny still grounded, but the defender's goalbound shot was superbly cleared off the line by the sliding Clint Hill.
Rangers finally got a sight of goal after 36 minutes when Spurs loanee Kyle Walker overlapped down the right and and crossed for Jamie Mackie.
But the striker, who has scored eight goals in eight league games so far this season, saw his weak shot saved by Neil Sullivan.
Taarabt almost produced a goal for Rangers at the start of the second half, but his precise free-kick was headed over the top by Gorkss.
But the breakthrough eventually arrived in the 53rd minute when Gorkss met Akos Buzsaky's corner with another firm header.
His initial effort was blocked by Rovers right-back Mustapha Dumbaya, but the big centre-half reacted quickest to slam the loose ball past Sullivan.
Rangers midfielder Hogan Ephraim had the ball in the net in the 72nd minute but was just offside when he collected Taarabt's pass.
But the second goal did arrive in the 81st minute after Heidar Helguson was upended in the area by Sullivan.
Helguson got back to his feet and tucked the ball away but referee Roger East had already pointed to the spot.
Luckily for the official, Taarabt made no mistake with the penalty.
And Gorkss gave the scoreline a flattering look with a powerful header from Taarabt's corner two minutes from time to make the points safe and keep the Rangers bandwagon rolling. Mail

INDEPEDENT/Geoff Brown - League round-up: Warnock's words of warning inspire QPR
- Kaspars Gorkss, Queens Park Rangers' Latvian defender, scored twice as the Championship frontrunners made their best start to a season for 63 years. The 3-0 defeat of Doncaster Rovers was their seventh win in an unbeaten eight-match run without a goal conceded at home in four games.
- Rovers had the better of the first 45 minutes. "At half-time I told three or four of my major players they were a bit short and needed to step up," Neil Warnock, the QPR manager, said, "and they did." After the break QPR revealed a cutting edge Rovers had lacked when Gorkss fired in a 35th-minute rebound, Adel Taarabt fired in an 81st-minute penalty and seven minutes later Gorkss headed in Taarabt's corner. QPR have opened up a six-point lead..." Independent

Telegraph/Neil Tranis - Queens Park Rangers_ Doncaster Rovers_: match report
- A resounding scoreline will hoodwink the ignorant into believing that Queens Park Rangers steamrollered Doncaster Rovers.
- The Championship leaders were flattered by their margin of victory but even those who did not witness this encounter will know the West London club continue to crush all obstacles in their path by whatever means.
- Transfers: Championship summer 2010They were not fluent and owed their triumph to a brace of goals from Latvian defender Kaspars Gorkss. Six points clear at the top, the notion that Rangers seamlessly scamper away from the rest overwhelms any sense of weakness within their game.
- “There will be moments where they won’t win games like that,” said Doncaster manager Sean O’Driscoll. The first half was exasperating for the home side.
- "Adel Taarabt, their exuberant playmaker, struggled to decorate his tricks with penetration. The Moroccan was crowded out and over-elaboration does not sit well with those who demand success.
- Nonetheless, Doncaster dared not neglect him. When he did escape two markers he was cynically checked by Shelton Martis.
- Amid the flying tackles and close defensive attention, Taarabt’s ability to manufacture space still entrances. With no margin for error, a nonchalant back-heeled flick on halfway released Akos Buzsaky.
- In the second period Heidar Helguson, on his 300th league appearance, was felled by goalkeeper Neil Sullivan. Taarabt converted the penalty to double his side’s lead.
- Expectant paying customers endured plenty of fervour without a cutting edge for long spells. Kyle Walker, on loan from Spurs, was keen to sprint up the right flank from full-back but deliveries into the box were at a premium.
- Invention did not pierce often enough for Neil Warnock’s liking but victory soothed those anxieties. “You’ve got to keep grinding away. We’re difficult to play against,” he said.
- Doncaster, a collection of underrated footballers who have raised eyebrows, menaced.
- The game was goalless when Martin Woods’ free kick was pushed on to a post by Paddy Kenny. James O’Connor’s follow-up was cleared off the line.
- The visitors were not robust enough when it mattered. Taarabt’s corner at the start of the second half found Gorkss, whose effort was blocked. The defender slammed in the rebound. James Coppinger struck the bar for Doncaster but Gorkss headed in another Taarabt corner.
- This was not memorable but their rivals find it arduous to reveal telling flaws in QPR. Telegraph
