Yann Tear/Uxbridge Gazette - QPR may have to rely on the familiar against Coventry Jan 20 2011
QPR v Coventry City (Sunday, 1.15pm)

IN SPITE of Neil Warnock's frantic attempts to sign new players on loan this week, the chances are we will see his tried and trusted line-up against Coventry City on Sunday.

Rangers are set to finalise the loan deal for West Brom's Ishmael Miller tomorrow, but he is nursing a hamstring injury picked up while on FA Cup duty with Albion and is a non-starter.

It is still far from certain that Hoops hero Danny Shittu will make his emotional return to Loftus Road, although Warnock has offered the defender the move when his current deal with Millwall ends at the weekend.

Another ex Ranger, Wayne Routledge, has a chance of appearing, but the player has also not yet agreed to a return to London. A wide player is what Rangers need most now Jamie Mackie is out of the picture.

“We've nothing definite yet and it's far from being finalised,” Warnock said. “The clubs have agreed but I think he has a personal issue to sort out with Newcastle.”

Warnock was keen on adding West Ham's Benni McCarthy to his squad, but has cooled on the idea now Miller looks to be on board to join Rob Hulse and Heidar Helguson as main strikers.

Ipswich have joined the race for another QPR target, Blackburn's Pascal Chimbonda, but at the moment, Warnock is concentrating his energies on the forward line.

Sunday's lunchtime game against a Coventry side defeated 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena last month represents something of a watershed game for Rangers.

They will have fresh faces at the door and start the run for the tape three points clear of Swansea, with a game in hand, and five above Cardiff, Norwich and Leeds with Watford not far behind.

Even with only three defeats all season so far, it would not take much to slip out of the top two.

“We could be 10 points clear or back in sixth place in 10 games time,” Warnock said. “In many ways the run in starts now and I'm looking forward to it.”

Rangers are due a home win against the Sky Blues. They have lost three of the last five meetings between the teams at Loftus Road and last beat them in west London in 2004 when Jamie Cureton scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win.Uxbridge Gazette

West Bromwich Albion Official Site - QPR loan in pipeline for Miller
Posted on: Thu 20 Jan 2011

ROBERTO Di Matteo has confirmed Ishmael Miller could be set for a loan move to QPR - but admits Albion's chances of signing another striker may have a bearing on the potential switch.

The Baggies hitman returned to training yesterday following a hamstring problem - the latest in a series of niggles that have hampered his comeback from a serious knee injury this term.

And Di Matteo admits any loan to the Championship leaders would be for the rest of the season to give Miller some much-needed game time and build his match fitness.

"Ishmael trained yesterday for the first time," said the Hawthorns boss.

"We're deciding on the QPR move - it is an option.
"To a certain extent it will depend on us bringing someone else in.

"If if happens it will be for the rest of the season.

"In the last 18 months he hasn't been able to play one game of 90 minutes.
"He needs to play consistently week in, week out to be able to reach his full potential and match fitness.

"We can't give him that at the moment.

"The stage where we are means we haven't got the time to do that.

"To play every week will be good for him."

QPR playmaker Akos Buzsaky has stepped up his training ahead of an expected return to action next month.

Buzsaky has been sidelined since October with knee ligament damage, having previously spent long spells out with knee and ankle injuries.

“Akos has just started doing a bit more. It’s really good news for us,” said Rangers manager Neil Warnock.

“He’s stepped things up and, while we’re not going to rush things with him, having him back will be a big boost.”

Warnock met with the Rangers board on Monday to discuss possible new signings, and the club are close to bringing Dan Shittu and Wayne Routledge back to Loftus Road.

Shittu is due to become a free agent on Friday, when his short-term contract at Millwall expires.

The defender has been offered a new deal by the Lions, but was looking certain to return to the club he left to join Watford for £1.6m in July 2006.

Rangers are also keen to sign Routledge on loan from Newcastle – a year after selling the winger to them – and were hopeful of completing a deal in time for Sunday’s televised match against Coventry (kick-off 1.15pm).

In addition, Warnock is hoping to recruit at least one striker. West Brom forward Ishmael Miller, recently back from a long-term knee injury, is among the options being considered, while Benni McCarthy played for QPR in their behind-closed-doors friendly at Tottenham on Tuesday.

Rangers also recently offered a trial to Slovenian defender Darko Zec, but have since cooled their interest in the player.

QPR are closing in on the signing of centre-back Danny Shittu.

We exclusively revealed last week that boss Neil Warnock had earmarked the former Rs legend for a return to the defence he bossed for 169 games between 2001-06.

The Nigerian international is a free agent and has already turned down an overture from Millwall - whom he joined on a three-month contract in October – after the Lions failed to meet his wage demands. Fulham Chronicle

Mail - Pascal Chimbonda to be reunited with Paul Jewell at Ipswich after turning down QPR move
Pascal Chimbonda is set to be reunited with his old boss Paul Jewell at Ipswich after he pulled out of a £500,000 move to QPR.

The 31-year-old Blackburn defender has been training on his own after manager Steve Kean stood by a decision made by his predecessor Sam Allardyce that Chimbonda has no future at Ewood Park.

A move to QPR was in place but shelved at the last minute when Jewell made his interest known.

The new Ipswich boss is keen to work with Chimbonda again despite seeing the player leave Wigan under a cloud five years ago.

Jewell was furious when Chimbonda handed in a transfer request while still in his kit after the final game of Wigan’s first season in the Barclays Premier League and joined Tottenham for £4.5million Mail

Paul Warburton/Ealing Gazette - Chimbonda's QPR move delayed by pay dispute
PASCAL Chimbonda's move to QPR has been delayed by a pay-off dispute with Blackburn Rovers.

We exclusively revealed last week that Rangers had lined up a cut-price deal for the right-back, who is prepared to take a 75 per cent drop in wages to make the switch to Loftus Road.

Chimbonda is set to be released by the Premier League club – but the former Tottenham player is haggling over a pay-off deal from Ewood Park, and is not expected to be ready in time for Rangers to play Coventry City at home on Sunday.
