QPR Official Site - HEWITT: 'A FANTASTIC CHALLENGE'

Troy Hewitt has spoken of his delight at making the move from Non-league Harrow Borough to the npower Championship with Queens Park Rangers.

The 21 year-old hot-shot finally put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal on Monday afternoon, after impressing whilst on trial with Neil Warnock's men.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Hewitt revealed how well he's settled into life as a full-time professional footballer.

"It's a very welcome experience," he said.

"Everyone at the Club has been great with me and have really helped me settle in.

"There's a great mix of youth and experience in the squad and everyone has been really welcoming."

Hewitt is fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead, but he's happy bide his time, with the R's currently flying high at the summit of the npower Championship.

"I'm just looking forward to the challenge of getting into the squad, first and foremost," he said.

"I travelled with the First Team to Middlesbrough a few weeks ago and enjoyed the experience. That gave me a taste for it.

"I know it will be a gradual process, but it's a fantastic challenge."

MAIL - West Bromwich boss Hodgson eyes Championship duo Taarabt and Zaha

West Bromwich are showing interest in Queens Park Rangers forward Adel Taarabt and Crystal Palace starlet Wilfred Zaha.

Albion manager Roy Hodgson made a personal check on the Championship duo in Rangers's 2-1 win over Palace at Loftus Road on Saturday.

Taarabt has been key to QPR's promotion drive while Zaha has been a bright spark for Palace in an otherwise disappointing season.

However, Rangers manager Neil Warnock is determined to keep hold of Taarabt, who is likely to be play a key role next season if the west London club win promotion.

Newcastle are also keen on Taarabt - while the player himself has claimed Manchester United are interested.

Striker Zaha, 18, is rated as one of the best prospects in the Championship and has been watched several times by Hodgson's former club Liverpool.

The pair could cost a combined total of around £8million. Mail

Milton Keynes Citizen - Robbo in talks with loan duo
TALKS are underway for Dons to keep hold of Stephen Hughes and Rowan Vine after their loan deals expired.

Hughes returned to parent club Norwich City on Monday having made two impressive starts in the absence of Peter Leven, while Vine has made 11 appearances since joining in January.

And the QPR striker, who recently admitted wanting to stay as long as he can at stadium:mk, announced on Twitter that he had extended his deal, which was news to manager Karl Robinson.

“I think he wants to stay - but he tells Twitter more than he tells me!” Robinson joked.

Having already extended his emergency loan once, should a further extension be granted from QPR, Vine would have to return on April 21, forcing him out of the play-offs for Dons. However, his performances of late have attracted interest from teams in higher divisions - a testament to the player who Robinson rates extremely highly.

He said; “Rowan is top drawer. What you don’t see is what he brings behind the scenes. He is a top man, with a very good attitude and always has a smile on his face.
“If it came up and we could keep him, I’d love to keep him on. We can’t have him for the play-offs, which is a real blow for us, but he is saying all the right things.

“There are other clubs wanting him in leagues above us.

“The fans have really taken to him. He never dismisses the fans, he talks to them and gives them the time of day, and they respond to him.

“He has been a credit to himself. He has got better and better, and I hope everything works out between now and Monday.”

Meanwhile Robinson is also in talks with Norwich about extending the loan of Hughes.

“I’m in talks to see where we can go,” Robinson said. “But he has gone back for now. Fortunately we don’t have a game at the weekend so I have a bit of extra time to assess the injuries.

“You don’t play in the Champions League if you’re average, or 80-plus games games for Rangers. He has an excellent CV. I think he wanted to play alongside Peter Leven, as they used to play alongside each other when they were kids at Rangers.” Milton Keynes Citizen
