STANDARD/Andy Hodgson -  QPR suffer £22m loss on return to the top flight

Queens Park Rangers lost £22.6million during their first season back in the Premier League, it was announced today.

Although that figure, published in the accounts for QPR Holdings Limited, was £3m down on their final season in the Championship, turnover soared from £16m to £64m. Debt has increased from £56m to £89m.

The deficit for the 2011-12 season was in part due to spending £25m on new players and the club face another big loss this season having splashed out more than £30m on signings in the last two transfer windows.

In both cases the large outlay was down to the club’s eagerness to maintain their top-flight status. Last term they brought in Djibril Cisse and Bobby Zamora for £4m each in the January window while this winter Christopher Samba (£12m) and Loic Remy (£8m) arrived at the Premier League’s bottom club.

The accounts for 2011-12 showed the huge gulf between life in the Premier League and the Championship.

QPR’s wage bill — covering all employees ranging from players to administrative staff — almost doubled from £26m to £51m. Ticket revenue per game has also risen from £232,000 to £405,000.

The accounts cover Tony Fernandes’s first as chairman. In his statement with the accounts he said: “When, alongside my business partners, I purchased a majority shareholding in the club in August 2011 my goal was to turn QPR into an established Premier League club.

“This remains my focus and I continue to work closely with Amit Bhatia and other shareholders to make this a reality.

“Under the guidance of our new manager, Harry Redknapp, we are hopeful that the club will secure their Premier League status going forward.

“We are confident that the 2012-13 season will also see the club continue to make progress towards achieving their short, medium and long-term off-pitch targets.”

Fernandes added that the club — who are four points from safety in the Premier League with 10 games to go — are continuing to look for a site for a larger stadium

QPR Win "PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK"

QPR OFFICIAL SITE _ R'S WIN ‘PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK’ AWARD

Away victory at Southampton named 'Performance of the Week'

THE R'S away victory against Southampton last weekend has been named F&C Investments Performance of the Week.

Goals from Loic Remy and Jay Bothroyd won it for Rangers at St Mary's, as Harry Redknapp's men claimed a crucial win in their fight for Premier League survival.

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel - comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry - were in agreement that the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award should go to Redknapp's side, on a weekend which saw all of the R's relegation-threatened rivals fail to pick up any points from their respective fixtures.

R's gaffer Redknapp will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to commemorate the award.  QPR

FUlham Chronicle/Jacob Murtagh - Bothroyd: I thought my time at QPR was up

JAY Bothroyd thought his Rangers career was over – now the striker is determined to play his part in QPR's survival bid.

The former Cardiff City frontman admits he thought he had played his last game in blue and white hoops after being frozen out of the first-team set-up by Mark Hughes last summer.

Bothroyd wasn't given a squad number and forced to train with the reserves to leave him in limbo.

But after a disappointing loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, where he scored just once in 14 games, Bothroyd was handed the chance by new boss Harry Redknapp.

The 30-year-old has responded by plundering three goals in five games since his return to west London, including the winner in last weekend's vital victory at Southampton - his first Premier League start of the campaign.

With Bobby Zamora battling to overcome an ankle injury, Bothroyd could keep his place for Saturday's crucial clash with Sunderland.

And the former Arsenal trainee is desperate to help QPR's battle against the drop.

He said: “I wanted to do well for QPR, but Mark Hughes decided he didn't want to give me an opportunity, even though there were only three forwards at the club.

“Not getting in the 25-man squad hurt me. Myself and a few others were isolated and made to train on our own, doing double sessions, which are out of the ordinary.

“I thought I may not play for the club again. It was tough mentally but I stayed strong and always believed in myself.

“I went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday because I knew Dave Jones from my time at Cardiff.

“It was difficult. I was playing out of position and then I got injured.

“When I came back to QPR Harry gave me a chance.

“I've scored three in the last four so I'm happy with that. I just want to do my best for QPR and help keep us up.”  http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-qpr/2013/03/07/82029-32942015/#ixzz2MrY2jmmW

"...John Gregory believes there is a powerful caucus of people close to the club who are plotting to kill off Queen's Park Rangers...."
"...there's people out there trying to destroy the club, people who are close to it. You've got some on the internet message boards slagging everything off and giving out details about financial aspects, which are confidential. A few former employees might be feeding them stuff, spreading a lot of poison. It's quite sad really..."
