Ealing Gazette/Paul Warburton - Briatore vows to stay at QPR
- QPR chairman Flavio Briatore was hours from walking out of the club following a demonstration by 150 fans after the 1-0 defeat on Saturday at home to Scunthorpe.
- But even though the under-fire supremo left the director’s box seconds after the Iron’s 74th minute winner – thus missing the demo outside Loftus Road – the 59-year-old has vowed he won’t let a small group of teenagers get in the way of his ambitions.
- A source close to Briatore admitted the fans’ wrath had stung the chairman.
- "At one stage he vowed never to come back, but that had all changed by Sunday," said the insider.
- - On reflection, he wasn’t going to be run out of town by a bunch of youngsters – barely 150 strong – when there were 13,000 at the game."
- Web chatter this week demanded the downfall of the man who took control in November, 2007, baying for billionaire Lakshmi Mittal and son-in-law Amit Bhatia to take over the helm.
- The Indian steel magnate bought a 20 per cent stake in the club a couple of months after Briatore, with Batia taking the vice-chairman’s role.
- But there is no desire from either Mittal or Bhatia to up their stake while the current chairman remains.
- Fans are angry their club has been ‘turned into a laughing stock’ as one fan wrote, with hundreds echoing the sentiment.
- Eight managers, either temporary or permanent, have come and gone during Briatore's reign with the chairman back where he started after appointing Mick Harford last month.
- After just five games, Harford made way in 2007 for Lugi De Canio to start the revolving door that went into spin mode in December with three different managers taking charge inside a week.
- Hoops will hope to turn their fortunes around at Peterborough on Saturday, and register their first win in six attempts." Ealing Gazette
Teamtalk - Ainsworth: Rangers can return to form
- QPR fans' favourite Gareth Ainsworth has backed the west London club to turn their season around.
- Rangers were once again expected to mount a promotion push this term but are currently floundering in 14th after more managerial turmoil and a run of one win in 11.
- But Ainsworth, who this week left Loftus Road after six-and-a-half years to join Wycombe, insists current boss Mick Harford has the quality in his squad to arrest their slide.
- "I wish Mick all the best, he's a great guy and they're having a bad time on the pitch at the moment," said Ainsworth.
- "But it's players who are ultimately responsible and I'm sure they'll turn it around." Teamtalk
Essex County Standard/Matt Plummer - Tamas Priskin will benefit from a change of scenery: Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane
- Roy Keane believes a “change of scenery" will benefit Ipswich Town striker Tamas Priskin.
- The Hungarian has joined Queens Park Rangers on loan for the rest of the season, although he cannot play in Tuesday's match between the sides at Loftus Road.
Keane moved to bolster his striking options this week by signing Sunderland pair David Healy and Daryl Murphy.
And of his decision to let Priskin go, he said: “With the two lads coming in it was a decision we had to make, to balance the books.
“I still think he's a talented player but maybe he just needs a change of scenery.
“Hopefully it will give him some confidence and we'll welcome him back at the end of the season.
“He's still learning his trade and he'll come back a stronger player.”
Town are at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
