- QPR NON-LEAGUE TRIALIST...Dave McIntyre/BBC606 - "...As far as I know the Hungarian is no longer there. Volz is, although I was surprised when I read he was close to signing as that wasn't the case. He's has a bad time with injuries and was always going to need some time...Incidentally, they've had another lad down there on trial. Craig Hammond. A striker. He's had a couple of spells at Histon and scored quite a few goals at non-League level." BBC606
Brian Glanville/World Soccer on Briatore's Departure
- And so, not a moment too soon, addio Briatore. That flamboyant fellow has at last left Queens Park Rangers, where as chairman he constantly meddled in affairs which should have been left to the managers. Of whom no fewer than ten were jettisoned during his autocratic reign.
- In defence of this flamboyant figure, it should be said that his money rescued QPR from administration. The odd thing being that despite the presence of himself, the billionaire FI man Bernie Ecclestone, with the still richer Indian steel magnate Mitttal hovering in the background, QPR’s transfer policy has largely been limited to the loans of lesser players.
- Briatore as we know was cast into outer darkness by Formula 1, for deliberately arranging for his Renault car to crash, only to have the suspension cancelled in court. Formula 1 have promised to appeal in turn, but, so far, nothing has happened. Meanwhile Briatore is being sued for millions by his ex-partner in a couture firm, Angelo Galasso. Never a dull moment.
- Of all those managerial sackings, the silliest was surely that of the former Portugal midfield star, Paulo Sousa, for daring to reveal that Blackstone, his incisive striker, had been sold over his head to Nottingham Forest. Sousa now inspires Swansea." World Soccer
QPR Official Site - GERMAN PENS NEW DEAL
- Antonio German has put pen to paper on a new contract which will keep him at the Club until the summer of 2012.
- The 18-year old striker scored on his full debut against Doncaster at the weekend, and is looking forward to building on his early promise.
"I was out of contract at the end of the season, so I'm just happy to get it all done so that now I can concentrate on my football," German told www.qpr.co.uk.
"It gives me a big lift because it shows that the Club are keen to keep me here, which is good.
"Mick Harford has given me a lot of help. After training he does some shooting and hold-up play with me, and gives me a few tips on how to be a centre forward. He's been really good to me.
"He's helped me on my movement and my positioning - it's been great."
German, who was brought up in Harlesden and joined the R's as a 14-year-old, added: "My target for the rest of the season is to start more games and score a few goals.
"I've got my chance and I've got to take it now. The hard part is not getting into the team, it's staying there and hopefully I can do that."
R's boss Harford was delighted after seeing the young forward commit his future to the Club, and added: "It's great for QPR to tie Antonio down to a long-term contract. He's one for the future.
"Antonio's broken into the First Team and done very well. He looks hungry around the training ground, hungry on the pitch and when he trains, he's got a fantastic attitude.
"He wants to be a footballer and if he keeps his feet on the ground, keeps working hard and keeps doing the right things, then hopefully he'll progress and become a good player.
"When I first came to QPR he wasn't really involved with the First Team. But he asked me if he could train with us and I liked that attitude.
"He's come in and been a breath of fresh air. Hopefully it's the start of a long and successful career for him. The hard work starts here." QPR
