- Lee Cook has warned his QPR team-mates they are in a desperate relegation scrap and insists they are not too good to go down.
- Rangers are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world with Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal on the board.
- But the club are already onto their third manager this term following a season of dramatic upheaval.
- Now boss Mick Harford is yet to win in six matches at the helm after succeeding Paul Hart.
- Defeat at Coventry was their fifth in succession after a dire home loss to Ipswich sparked unrest among fans.
- Cook, a Rangers supporter as a kid, fears they could suffer another relegation after seeing the club go down in 2001.
- And Cook, 27, has urged his team-mates and fans to unite tomorrow when Watford visit after insisting the squad are behind Harford.
- “I remember when Rangers last went down which was horrible,” said Cook, set to keep the armband tomorrow as Mikele Leigertwood is banned.
- “But it would be a lot worse now as a player - especially with the expectation we have in that changing room.
- “We shouldn’t really be mentioning relegation.
- “Some people might say we are too big a club to go down but we have been dragged into it.
- “That is five defeats on the trot now and we need a win badly.
- “We need all the QPR supporters to get behind us on Tuesday because we are going to need everyone pulling together because we are in a relegation battle.
- “The players are all behind the gaffer and everyone at the club understands and knows he is going to be there until the end of the season.
- “This display against Coventry was better but we looked like a team of strangers against Ipswich.
- “It looked like people weren’t trying. We watched the tape and were disgusted by what we saw - it was awful.“I know a few fans who sit in the stands and I can understand how upset they were.
- “It looked like people weren’t trying and you can’t have that.”
- Harford’s position is under scrutiny after out-of-work Germany legend Lothar Matthaus was spotted in the director’s box last week against Ipswich.
- Harford is only contracted at the club until the summer when Rangers are expected to bring in a new coach regardless.
- But the former Luton boss could be axed before then if results continue to be disastrous.
- QPR were poor against Coventry in an appalling contest where neither keeper had much to do.
- And City won it with a deflected effort from Gary Deegan in the 10th minute to add to Harford’s misery.
- “This run of defeats is a bit worrying,” admitted Harford.
- “A manager’s job is based on results and at this minute the results are very poor.
- “We are in a relegation battle but the club needs stability.
- “I still think I am the best man for the job and I speak to Gianni Paladini on a daily basis - we meet every morning.
- “We have two huge home games next against Watford and Doncaster and we need six points.” Mirror
