Globe and Mail Toronto FC maps out long trip - LARRY MILLSON June 12, 2007
"Mo Johnston feels his team can win on the road as well as at home, where support comes from a boisterous crowd at BMO Field.
After Sunday's Major League Soccer game against FC Dallas, Toronto FC will have a chance to prove the head coach right, as it will play six consecutive games on the road as the under-20 World Cup takes over BMO Field.
All three of Toronto's victories have been at home from six games played, while there is one draw to show for four away games.
....There are enough young players to form a nucleus that could stay for a few years. "We can stay together, and don't forget we have two No. 1 draft picks for next year," Johnston said. "We still have allocation money. So there's a lot of good stuff in there."...
Johnston said he hopes to have a couple of players in this week who will work with the team.
"We're going to take a close look at them and hopefully I can get one of them signed," he said. "I'm looking at doing something with a Premiership team on a loan deal. We can do two or three different things."
He has been looking to strengthen the back line. He also could use some help up front....
Recently, former Canadian national team midfielder Marc Bircham had a trial in Toronto.
His contract with Queens Park Rangers has expired. He has returned to England and will meet with officials from a couple of other clubs before deciding his future.
"We're strong in that department where he plays," Johnston said.
"We were impressed by him. He's good on the ball. He knows how to play soccer
