Colchester Official Site - George: 'We Want To Keep Curo'
U's boss Geraint Williams is determined to keep hold of star striker Jamie Cureton.
Curo, who finished the season as divisional top scorer, handed in a transfer request on Tuesday afternoon - but the Layer Road manager has signalled his desire to keep the former Reading man at Layer Road.
The 31-year-old still has time left on his existing contract and Geraint confirmed to the official site that an extended deal remains on the agenda..
We are obviously disappointed that Jamie feels he is in a position where he has had to hand in a transfer request," he told CU-FC.com.
"His success last season has put him in the limelight, but we are looking forward to building the future of Colchester United and we are keen for Jamie to be a part of that.
"I will stress that we do not want to sell Jamie - we want to keep him at the club. We would like him to stay and we want him to be happy to stay at Colchester United.
"To that end, we will be continuing talks with him about extending his contract, and hope we can come to an agreement with him about that soon."
U's Chief Executive Marie Partner added: "Jamie's request was received by the club, but we will be formally responding in writing, rejecting that request." Colchester
