For Ex-QPR Alan McDonald at Glentoran: Not Yet Quite Plain Sailing

Good luck Mac, you'll need it, says Coyle By Graham Luney

Roy Coyle has wished Alan McDonald good luck in his new role as Glentoran boss and the former Northern Ireland skipper is going to need it the way events are unfolding at the Oval.
McDonald will sink his teeth into his new job today after returning from Moldova with the Northern Ireland Under-21 party, but he will already know the man who sat alongside him at his unveiling - Tom Dick - has resigned as Director For Football.
Fellow Board member Cecil McKeag has also stepped down and more heads could roll as the tragic Glens' soap opera storyline continues.
Dick's departure could pave the way for Roy Walker to secure a seat on the Oval board but McDonald will voice his objection to that plan.
Walker, who was unable to take up the post because he does not hold the required UEFA A coaching licence, has admitted that it is unlikely McDonald will want him around the Oval while he is in the hotseat. Talks are set to continue and the Glens will issue a statement on the ongoing debacle on Tuesday.
Coyle said: "It is clear Alan is the second choice for the job as the club approached Roy (Walker) but Alan doesn't seem to mind.
"He seems to be comfortable taking it on. People will say he has a tough job on his hands trying to wrestle the title from Linfield but nothing lasts forever and the unexpected can happen in football." Belfast Telegraph
