He loathed it as a player, but he's relishing it as a Coach! Recently appointed First Team Coach Mick Harford is champing at the bit for pre-season training to begin.
Harford, who joined the R's last month from Colchester United, can't wait to put the R's first team squad through their paces when pre-season training gets underway at the Harlington Training Complex on Wednesday morning.
"It's the time of the season every player dreads,'' admitted Harford, in an exclusive interview with www.qpr.co.uk.
"Obviously it's a very exciting time for me. I'm at a new Club, with a new set of players and I can't wait to get started.''
After spending the last few days watching the Academy players being put through their paces by new Youth department duo Steve Brown and Keith Ryan, Harford is looking forward to the return of the senior stars on Wednesday morning.
"I'm looking forward to meeting the entire first team squad for the first time,'' he said.
"There's been wholesale changes since the end of the season, but it's the start of a new era and we're all buzzing with anticipation.''
The R's backroom team watched on with delight last week, as the entire first team squad came through a series of fitness tests with flying colours.
Sports Performance Manager Joe Dunbar used a variety of methods and technology to discover how fit each and every member of the squad was on the resumption of their duties - but the hard work begins now, according to Harford.
"It's going to be tough, but its part and parcel of life as a professional footballer,'' he said.
"They have to do it - there's no easy way, no short-cuts. It's a hard slog, but the demands of Championship football are so rigorous and we need to start the season well.''
A striker himself in his hey-day as a professional, Harford is particularly looking forward to working with the R's front-men, including new signing Danny Nardiello.
"We've got five or six forwards in the first team squad and there's a nice balance and blend,'' he told www.qpr.co.uk.
"The hard bit will be picking the best two, but we'd much rather it like this than to be scratching around looking for players to make the numbers up!''
*The QPR World cameras will be catching up with the squad throughout the next few days, so stay tuned! QPR Official
