Ex-QPR Update

-
Simon Royce signs for Gillingham (joining Steve Lomas)...Birthdays for two former QPR members of the QPR's "1976 Championship" Squad, Ron Abbott & Peter Eastoe, Both turn 54. It was Kevin Gallen vs Clarke Carlisle last night as MK Dons and Watford drew 0-0. (Also playing, ex-QPR loans Leon Knight and Dyer. No Danny Shittu - Match Report

Ron Abbott
Born August 2, 1953. Ron Abbott began as a "big/strong" center forward and there had been big hopes about his future (along with fellow forward, Alan Mayes). Abbott made his debut in August 1973 away at West Ham, scoring. Over the next few years, Abbott played a handful of games as a center back (including in QPR amazing 5-1 win at then Champions Derby in August 1976...almost exactly 30 years ago. In that game, Abbott played alongside another youngster, Tony Tagg.)

Peter Eastoe..
Also born August 2, 1953, Peter. Eastoe was signed from Swindon in March 1976 (our "Championship" Season) for about 90,000, with Don Rogers returning to Swindon. The ex-Wolves forward didn't play in that Championship season, and the next season slowly got into the team...playing in our League Cup Semi-Final "playoff" (defeat) versus Aston Villa at Highbury (Brian Little hattrick!) Eastoe was transferred to Everton in March 1979 (in our Steve Burtenhaw relegation season) in a straight swop for Everton's ex- Blackpool forward, Mickey Walsh.
