Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce that Michael Mancienne has signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The young central defender is yet to appear for the first team, having been a regular for our youth and reserve teams before appearing 30 times on loan for Queens Park Rangers last season.

Mancienne, 19, turned pro in January 2006, and has featured as an unused substitute several times, notably in last season's Community Shield at Cardiff. Chelsea

Young Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne has signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old centre-back is set to begin a season-long loan at Championship side QPR, having spent seven months at Loftus Road last term.

Mancienne has not yet made a senior appearance for Jose Mourinho's side, but the Portuguese coach is keen to keep him at the club.

QPR start the season at newly-promoted Bristol City on Saturday. BBC
