Paul Furlong Joins Southend
Southend Official Site - EXPERIENCED STRIKER SIGNS
Veteran striker Paul Furlong has completed a move to Southend United this morning on a free transfer.
Furlong, who will turn 40 in October, has signed a one-year contract at Roots Hall as manager Steve Tilson adds some experience to his squad.
Wood Green born Furlong has Premier League experience with Chelsea where he spent two-years following a £2.3million move from Watford.
More recently the six foot forward spent last season with financially stricken Luton Town where he bagged an impressive 12 goals in 38 appearances as the Hatters were relegated from League One.
Having commanded over £4million in transfer fees over his career, Furlong has played for no fewer than eight sides including Coventry, Birmingham and Queens Park Rangers scoring over 190 career goals.
Blues boss Tilson was keen to secure the service of a player he hopes can fill the void left by Shaun Goater two seasons ago.
Furlong is Southend's fourth summer signings and follows defender Osei Sankofa through the entrance doors at Roots Hall.
Paul's reaction to his move to Roots Hall will appear shortly on southendunited.co.uk and Blues Wor

Southend Official Site - FURLONG CAN GO THE DISTANCE
New signing Paul Furlong believes he can still go that extra mile despite rapidly approaching 40-years-old.
The former Chelsea striker put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal at Roots Hall this morning to make him Blues fourth capture of the close season.
And the veteran forward has his sights firmly set on being a regular fixture next season.
"First and foremost I don't want to be a bit part player," Furlong exclusively told Blues World.
"I want to play a big part if I can but that will be down to me and my performance on the park.
"I am not here to make up the numbers, I might be coming towards the end now but the hunger is still there and I want to do my best for this football club."
At 39-years old and 267-days once Furlong steps onto the pitch at the start of the season he will become United's oldest ever player.
Previous record holder Mick Gooding was 39-years and 143-days when he played his final game for United.
And having scored 191 career goals Furlong will shatter that record with the experienced frontman set to turn 40 on October 1.
"Last season I was able to play a lot of games and I always felt at the start of the season that once I got my chance I would take it," he said.
"It's funny as when I was 28 I said I always wanted to keep playing for as long as I could, in my mind that was until the age of 38.
"Having gone past that marker I still feel I can play and I will do this year and see where that takes me.
"At my age chances are few and far between, so I am just happy that Southend had the faith to be interested in me.
"I bring a lot of experience to the table, hopefully I am able to pass on my knowledge to the younger players here."
