Kevin Kyle's last-gasp header clinched it for City, as the Sky Blues came from behind to register all three points at Loftus Road.
The second half substitute nodded the all-important third goal of the game in the first minute of stoppage time, to deny Rangers a share of the spoils.
Earlier, Michael Mifsud cancelled out Akos Buzsaky's first goal in QPR colours.
After Rangers lost three players to injury in a disrupted first period, the R's went in front early in the second half, courtesy of Buzsaky's 20-yard effort.
Misfud restored parity with a well-taken goal on the hour, before Kyle's late heroics sent the travelling Sky Blues faithful home happy.
Luigi De Canio handed Scott Sinclair his first start in a QPR shirt, just hours after the Chelsea loanee agreed a six-week loan deal in W12.
Hogan Ephraim made way, whilst the rest of the R's starting XI and substitutes' bench remained unchanged from Saturday's 2-0 home victory against Hull City.
Coventry hit-man Mifsud partnered Leon Best in attack, for a Sky Blues side hunting a third Championship win on the spin.
After a slow start to proceedings, Rangers were dealt an early blow, when Portsmouth loanee Martin Cranie was forced from the fray with a leg injury after a collision with Leon Best.
Sampsa Timoska replaced him, with the Finnish international slotting in at centre-half alongside Damion Stewart.
Livewire Mifsud spurned the first chance of the match midway through the first half.
Linking up with Dele Adebola, the diminutive front-man was given time and space to get his shot off from the edge of the penalty box, only to drag his right footed effort wide.
R's fans had a first taste of Sinclair's dazzling skills in the 26th minute.
The 18 year-old left David McNamee in a twist with a piece of sublime close trickery, before firing a shot across goal, which was deflected wide of Dimi Konstantopoulos's left hand post.
Ever the tactician, De Canio immediately instructed Sinclair and Rowlands to switch flanks, leaving Marcus Hall with the seemingly difficult task of marking the R's new signing.
At the other end, Martin Rowlands stuck out a leg to thwart Adebola, only to inadvertently divert the ball goalwards, forcing Camp to tip the ball to safety.
The injury curse struck the hosts yet again seven minutes before the break.
Michael Doyle's high boot caught Mikele Leigertwood straight in the face and after lengthy treatment from R's physio Paul Hunter, De Canio called upon Bolder to replace the former Sheffield United man.
After Sinclair stung the palms of the Sky Blues custodian from an acute angle, it went from bad to worse for Rangers on the stroke of half-time, when Marc Nygaard pulled up with a hamstring injury and was immediately replaced by Danny Nardiello.
Whilst the R's had no more substitutes are their disposal, De Canio made a tactical switch at the break, with Michael Mancienne and Timoska switching positions.
Timoska immediately seemed more accustomed to his new right back role, producing a last-ditch to thwart the roaming Mifsud in the 47th minute.
Three minutes later the R's were in front.
A long ball from Damion Stewart was only half cleared by the Sky Blues defence, and the ball fell to Buzsaky, who unleashed a ferocious left footed strike from fully 20-yards, which flew past the flat-footed Konstantopoulos.
Coventry response was almost immediate, with Adebola forcing Camp to dive full length across his goal, as the ball flew inches wide of his right hand upright.
Rangers failed to heed the warning though, with Mifsud putting Coventry on terms on the hour.
Looking suspiciously offside, the Maltese front-man nipped in between Timoska and Mancienne, rounded Camp and sent the ball goalwards.
Timoska slid in in an attempt to divert the ball the safety, only for the ball to flick up off his trailing leg and trickle over the line.
It was probably a fair reflection on the balance of play, but the manner of the goal would have angered the hosts, with Camp immediately glancing over to the assistant referee hoping to see a raised flag.
That theme continued right up until the final whistle, with Coventry all too often being allowed to play on in the final third, when it appeared to all and sundry that their front-men were drifting into offside positions when receiving the ball.
Stewart's deflected header fell inches wide of the post in the 85th minute, before Camp denied Mifsud down low to his left.
As the fourth official put up two minutes of added time, the match appeared to be petering towards a 1-1 draw, before Kyle soared to make it three wins on the bounce for the buoyant Sky Blues.

Luigi De Canio failed to hide his disappointment as Rangers succumbed to a late, late defeat against Coventry City.
Kevin Kyle's 91st minute winner took the shine off another efficient home display from the R's.
"I'm very sorry to everyone because we lost," he told www.qpr.co.uk.
"We had three quite serious injuries in the first half alone and that really hurt us.
"The experience is still very new to me and I've now to go get my team ready for Saturday."
De Canio added: "The fans were great again, but we didn't give them enough to cheer about.
"We really wanted all three points tonight, but we threw away a point at the end."
R's head physio Paul Hunter confirmed that Martin Cranie suffered a suspected fractured fibula in the first half, while Mikele Leigertwood suffered a broken nose.
Marc Nygaard's hamstring injury only served to compound Rangers' woes, on a night to forget for the R's.
"Martin has gone for an X-ray and we should have the result in the morning," he told www.qpr.co.uk.

Michael Mifsud netted his 11th goal of the campaign this evening - but it was Kevin Kyle who stole the headlines at the death as Coventry City beat QPR 2-1.
Coventry had gone behind early in the second half through an effort from Akos Buzsaky, but Mifsud was again on the mark as Coventry deservedly earned something from their trip to Loftus Road.
However, it was substitute Kyle who stole the headlines in stoppage time - the striker heading past Lee Camp to nick all three points at the death.
Iain Dowie was forced to make one change from the side which beat Stoke City 3-1 at the weekend.
Robbie Simpson was unavailable after picking up a hamstring problem against the Potters, so Dele Adebola - so effective as a substitute at the Britannia Stadium - came into the starting eleven.
For QPR, Rowan Vine was in the team after extending his loan spell at Loftus Road, while there was also a place for new loan signing Scott Sinclair.
In an opening period where both sides jostled for position, the Sky Blues created the opening opportunity on 13 minutes, when Leon Best crossed from the left and Michael Mancienne was forced to put behind his own goal.
For the home side, Sampsa Timoska came on for the injured Martin Cranie with 19 gone, before the visitors threatened again when Michael Mifsud shot wide of the left upright three minutes later.
At the other end, QPR were creating their own chance and new boy Sinclair showed his Premiership pedigree as his feet bamboozled the Coventry defence before his cross cum shot sailed wide of the far post.
On 29 minutes, former Derby County goalkeeper Camp was forced into action with a save at the near post from Adebola, before Arjan de Zeeuw flicked over from a Sky Blues corner three minutes later.
De Canio wasn't having the best of luck with injuries, with Adam Bolder replacing Mikele Leigertwood with 37 on the clock.
Sinclair forced Konstantopoulos into a save at his near post three minutes before the break, while QPR were forced into their third change of the half moments later, with Daniel Nardiello replacing Marc Nygaard.
Though they had looked comfortable in the first half, the Sky Blues found themselves behind five minutes after the restart. Buzsaky, signed just last week for Rangers, picked up the ball on the edge of the box and the Hungarian made no mistake as he finished over the head of Konstantopoulos.
Adebola lifted his shot over the crossbar as he tried to pull one back on 57 minutes, but Coventry did make the breakthrough on the hour. Again it was the man Mifsud who got the goal - and although Timoska tried to keep it out, the Maltese's low shot was enough to put the Sky Blues back on level terms.
Kevin Kyle replaced Leon Best on 74 minutes and Mifsud almost got another three minutes from time, only to see his shot smothered by Camp.
