Kevin Gallen returned to QPR - Following in the immediate footsteps of QPR's shock 0-4 FA Cup First Round defeat at Swansea, the return of Kevin Gallen provided a boost to the team - both in the short term, and in the long run
Career
Released by Gerry Francis, Gallen spent one year at Huddersfield and a few months at Barnsley before rejoining QPR in November 2001.
BBC - November 20, 2001
Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of striker Kevin Gallen from Barnsley.
Gallen returns to the club where he made his name by breaking Jimmy Greaves' youth goalscoring record in 1992.
The 26-year-old, a lifelong QPR fan, has agreed a deal that will keep him at Loftus Road until the end of next season after a relatively unsuccessful spell at Oakwell.
I never wanted to leave QPR the first place
Kevin Gallen
He scored just two goals in seven starts for Barnsley following his move from Huddersfield in the summer.
"I'm absolutely delighted. I never wanted to leave in the first place, things happened but that's in the past," he told the club's website.
"QPR are my team, I'm delighted to be back and can't wait to pull on the blue and white hoops once again. I'm over the moon.
"It's happened really quickly and now I'm looking forward to Wednesday night and the derby against Brentford on Saturday."
Meanwhile, QPR boss Ian Holloway has been dealt a further injury blow with the news that Chris Plummer has been ruled out for at least two months with a fractured ankle.
Plummer had a scan on the ankle on Tuesday after suffering the injury against Swansea on Sunday. Gallen Returns
Evening Standard/Wayne Veysey - December 15, 2004 Gallen wants a deal for life
Gallen wants new deal...
KEVIN GALLEN is in talks with Queens Park Rangers about a new contract, writes Wayne Veysey.
The 29-year-old Rangers captain, whose current two-year deal runs out at the end of the season, is keen to extend his stay at the club he first joined as a 13-year-old.
He is understood to have been offered another two-year contract and the deal is expected to be completed shortly.
Gallen has barely missed a game since rejoining the club in November 2001.
He was QPR's leading scorer with 17 goals during last season's successful promotion campaign and has scored six goals in 25 games this term despite playing more than half of the matches in midfield.
He said: "Everything is here that I want. The club are on the up, the training and the spirit is excellent and the manager is great to work for.
"I love playing for QPR. The fans have helped me and the club through the bad times. Hopefully we can push on over the next few years and get in the Premiership. My goal is to end my career where I started it - in the top division." Standard
