SWINDON TOWN: Town investors are banking on Brevett
By Andy Cryer - This is Swindon Town

TOWN's new owners in waiting have already flexed their financial muscle with the County Ground arrival of Rufus Brevett as the new consortium's mouthpeice.
In the clearest indication yet that the promised takeover is imminent in Wiltshire, former QPR and West Ham defender Brevett was yesterday unveiled as Town's new Sporting Director.
Robins boss Paul Sturrock revealed Brevett would be his point of contact with the incoming investors and also said he would be helping out in a scouting capacity as well. advertisementBrevett was at the County Ground yesterday, walking around the stadium deep in conversation with a unidentified foreigner, and while declining to comment at the moment, admitted he was "very busy".
It is understood Brevett will not be a day-to-day presence at the training ground but will be instantly available for Sturrock for communication with the new investors.
A fortnight ago, the club revealed a big-money consortium was commencing due diligence to takeover the club, which the Swindon Advertiser understands is led by a foreign businessman.
Sturrock said: "Part of the investment coming in has seen us appoint Rufus Brevett as a Sporting Director.
"He will be the liaisor between me and the new people and so will be a new addition to the team. He will be an extra body to help us find some new players.
"He seems a nice lad and has played a lot of games in his career. He is starting on the ladder of his coaching badges and so maybe he is someone we can help."
Kevin Summerfield and John Blackley will remain Sturrock's everyday coaching staff, with Brevett taking a more detached role.
Sturrock said: "These new investors have a lot of businesses and there will be times when I need to liaise with them for decision.
"Rufus is there so that I can get in touch with them when I want. He will facilitate that. He is part of the consortium.
"The scouting side will also be useful. He is an extra pair of legs and will help in the search for new players." This is Swindon
