Wanderers have suspended talks with Queens Park Rangers over the possible transfer of Northern Ireland international Tommy Doherty.
The club had opened negotiations with Rangers over Doherty, who spent most of last season on loan at Adams Park. However, the player was suddenly taken ill while on holiday and needed an emergency operation to remove his appendix.
Doherty was due to return home last week for pre-season training at Rangers, but had to abandon his plans after doctors advised him that flying so soon after the operation could lead to complications.
The recovery time for appendicitis patients is normally between six and eight weeks so it could be as late as October before Doherty is fit enough to resume playing.
Wanderers' managing director Steve Hayes said : "We felt there was no point in continuing our talks with Q.P.R. because Tommy clearly won't be available to play for some time. However, it doesn't mean that we have ended our interest in signing him." Wycombe
