FOOTBALL LEAGUE AWARDS - LEAGUE HONOUR GOLDEN SIX
The winners of the 2007/08 PUMA Golden Boot and PUMA Golden Glove awards have been announced. The leading scorers and shot-stoppers from all three divisions of The Football League are set to receive specially designed golden trophies to mark their respective achievements in all competitions this season.
The winner of the Golden Boot for the Championship is Wolverhampton Wanderers' prolific striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. The ex-Manchester United player has notched 25 goals this season, including 13 for previous club Plymouth Argyle before his move to Molineux in the January transfer window.
The Golden Glove goes to West Bromwich Albion's veteran keeper Dean Kiely who recorded 18 clean sheets, as he helped the Baggies clinch the Coca-Cola Championship title.
In League 1, Trinidad & Tobago star Jason Scotland added a Golden Boot to his winner's medal by scoring 28 goals for Swansea City. Whilst Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith, runner-up 12 months ago, recorded 25 clean sheets to help his side secure Championship football next term.
Peterborough United's Aaron McLean registered 33 goals in his first full season at London Road to take the League 2 Golden Boot. Milton Keynes Dons' French goalkeeper Willy Gueret won the League 2 Golden Glove award with 23 shut-outs as his side stormed to a League and Johnstone's Paint Trophy double.
In announcing the PUMA Golden Boot and Golden Glove Award winners, Lord Mawhinney, Chairman of The Football League, said:
"Goalscorers and Goalkeepers are frequently the difference between success and failure in football. Each of these winners has made an enormous contribution to their club this season and they fully deserve this extra recognition."
Richard Callaway, Teamsports Marketing Manager at PUMA UK, added:
"Strikers and goalkeepers can often win a match for their team with a last minute goal or breathtaking save. These accolades give us an opportunity to reward players of all levels - congratulations to all of the winners."
Goals and clean sheets in The Coca-Cola Football League, Carling Cup, Johnstone's Paint Trophy and FA Cup sponsored by E.ON have all counted towards the PUMA Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards.
