QPR's New Crest: Reactions Vary

Almost a week since QPR's new crest was officially unveiled and opinions differ (although it had been on the boards for the preceeding couple of weeks.]. This new crest/logo replaces the elegant (in my opinion) old crest. And for old timers, the old, old crest from the 1960s and early 1970s.

THE NEW owners of QPR said they would not tamper with the club's tradition - but they have wasted little time in doing just that.
The new club crest was unveiled an Saturday before the team's final match of the season against West Brom amid much fanfare.
A parade of former players (left), including Les Ferdinand, Gerry Francis and Paul Parker were there to oversee proceedings.
But fans appear divided about the conscious attempt to signal a new era at the club.
"It seems a bit over-complicated to me. It looks a bit like a bottle of aftershave or the sort of crest you'd get at the entrance to the Beckham residence." was Paul Finney's take.
Finney, of the independent supporters' group website indyrs.co.uk added: "The shield and the hoops are OK, but I don't know what the feathers and crown are all about. It doesn't say anything about the QPR I know. It's not vibrant or colourful."
On clubfanzine.com, a fan wrote: "The new badge is awful. It's going back 60 years. Why mess with our badge. It's one of the best designs in the world!"
But on the qpr.vitalfootball website, another noted: "We've changed our badge so many times that tradition doesn't really come into it."
The current badge has existed since the 80s and in 1997 the words Loftus Road and the date of the club's formation were introduced.
Fans are saying the club made a mistake in not consulting with them over the new image but Flavio Briatore, chairman of QPR Holdings, said: "The new crest represents another huge step in our aim to relaunch the club into a global brand - anchored in W12, but giving it a vision of the future. I am delighted with the design."
The club said it consulted with "QPR figures from past and present" but not fans over the design. The cost of the new logo has not been disclosed. Ealing Gazette
