Tommasi Not Yet Ready...QPR's Striker Pursuit
-
Ben Kosky/Kilburn Times - Tommasi must bide his time
22 October 2008
FORMER World Cup star Damiano Tommasi is still some way from taking his Championship bow, according to QPR boss Iain Dowie.
The 34-year-old defensive midfield man signed a nine-month contract with Rangers six weeks ago, but has so far been a regular in the reserve team as he works to build up match fitness.
"Damiano hasn't played for a long time but he's a terrific pro and, as and when he's fit, I'm sure we'll benefit from his experience," said Dowie.
"He isn't quite ready yet, so we'll see how it goes. But central midfield is an area in which we already have so much competition."
Tommasi spent a decade with Roma and also won 25 full caps for Italy, but was released by his last club, Spanish side Levante, earlier this year.
Meanwhile, QPR will step up their efforts to recruit a striker this week despite being rebuffed in an approach for Hull City's Caleb Folan.
Rangers were keen to take the 25-year-old forward on loan until January, but were turned down by the surprise Premier League high-flyers.
Assistant manager Tim Flowers said: "We weren't a million miles off, but we'll keep trying and see what drops."
The club are anxious to strengthen their front line quickly as they face two of the current top three teams in the Championship over the coming days.

DOWIE sees room for improvement for QPR .I see no improvemet in DOWIE he must go and owners get money out.
As a lifelong QPR fan i can honestly say that i am embarassed at the attitude of some of our supporters recently. They think that our owners somehow owe us millions of their personal cash and instant success, and that Dowie should create a better team than many of our rivals who have spent alot more, overnight. We have needed a striker since day 1 to challenge for promotion. I dont expect dowie to work miracles without one, and i dont think our owners are obligated to buy us one just because we are impatient. All i expect is for a cheer when we win a game. which didnt happen at forest. People have been after Dowie from the start becuase they still cant get it into their thick heads that di caneo wasnt fired or even pushed out. he was always only there for the remainder of the season. So lets just accept that and get behind the team and manager for gods sake rather than acting like spoiled children.
we really need a striker agreed, its a real shame we never manage to get kevin phillips, who at this level would have been perfect and would must def of been our 20 goal man. Nothing against blackstock and co, but I dont think they have proven to be strikers that are relied on. Dexter is a good striker but not one we should heap too much pressure on as he will come good with help from another striker!! We had some bad luck in Vine's injury but still think we can make play-off's this year
It's about time to get this in to perspective, this time last year we were bottom,we were going down and we were going out of exsistence. Thanks to Briatore and Co they came in saved our club and paid off all our debt, and to be fair they have always said they are working to a 4 or 5 year plan.So lets get real and support our manager and players and our owners, and show some thanks that we still have a club to support.
What chance have we got in the next 2 games without someone who can score a goal . All this talk about who we might get is a load of bollocks , if they were serious we would have got someone long ago , no chance of lita now he's just bagged a hat trick is there !!!
As a a 9 year old supporter of Queens park rangers at 12 years old i am disgusted with the way that QPR fans are chreating the team and manager yes we do need another striker but it has nothing to do with iain dowie and we might have a chance in the next two games so just let them all gel to togther so get behind the lads and give them support leroy lita your ares
I think we should all just get off there backs, We have had our best start in many years in the championship and are in last 16 of cup. And for all those so called supporters that say we need a new striker, Blackstock is 5th top goalscorer
