Mirror - RANGER DAMIEN
Big-SPENDING QPR have agreed a £1.2million deal for Hull defender Damien Delaney.
Delaney, 26, could make his Rangers debut against Barnsley on Saturday after Rangers fought off competition from Leeds.
Delaney is to sign a three-year deal with Rangers, who also look certain to push through a move for Dutch goalkeeper Stefan Postma.
The Dutch FA have solved a contractual dispute between Postma, 31, and his club ADO Den Haag, meaning the former Aston Villa and Wolves man is free to move to Loftus Road.
Rangers boss Luigi De Canio still hopes to complete a £1.8m deal for Tottenham winger Wayne Routledge - which would take the club's number of January signings to Mirror
From Hull City Mad
"...The Irishman is one of City's longest serving players, having been signed by Peter Taylor for £50,000 from Leicester over five years ago.
After initally being an unpopular signing, Delaney then became Player of the Year in 2004 for his part in City's promotion from Division Three.
Usually a centre back, some of Delaney's 224 league appearances for the club have been at left back and in midfield. The 26-year-old has also worn the captain's armband on occasion.
Chairman Paul Duffen revealed at last night's Fans' Liaison Committee meeting that Delaney would join QPR for an undisclosed fee today - an offer the club couldn't refuse." Hull City Mad
Hull City Official Site Profile
Name: Damien Delaney
Nationality: Rep of Ireland
Date of Birth: 20/07/1981
Height: 6' 3" (191cm)
Weight: 14st 0lbs (88.98kg)
Previous
Clubs: Leicester City, Mansfield Town (loan), Huddersfield (loan), Stockport (loan)
Position: Defender
Having brought Damien across from Ireland when he was manager of Leicester City, Peter Taylor signed the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international on his first official day in charge of the Tigers in matching the £50,000 fee that went to Cork City in November 2000.
Making his Foxes debut against York City in the FA Cup, Damien went on to make eight Premiership appearances for Leicester. He gained further senior experience in 2001-02 with loan spells at Stockport County and Huddersfield Town. A further loan at Mansfield Town ended with his move to the Tigers.
Damien became the last Tiger to score at Boothferry Park. It was his first goal for City and his cross-cum-shot proved to be the winner against Boston United.
After a difficult first season when he was often used in a less familiar midfield role, Damien won over the doubters with a superb 2003-04. He was the only ever-present in the Tigers' promotion campaign - missing only the second-half of the visit to Mansfield Town following a clash of heads.
Personal highlights included captaining the team at Kidderminster Harriers and winning wonder goals against Rochdale and Bristol Rovers (the former voted City's Goal of the Season while the latter disproved his earlier nickname of 'Jigsaw' because he went to pieces in the box!).
To no one's surprise, Damien won the club's Player of the Year award, the Players' Player award and the supporters' Player of the Year prize.
His consistent form continued throughout our second successive promotion campaign when he formed a formidable central defensive partnership with Leon Cort. The genial Irishman missed only three games in City's League One campaign as he underwent keyhole surgery to a knee injury in September.
Damien's importance to the Tigers cause meant he became the only player to be involved in some part of every game in City's first Championship season.
As well as his familiar centre-back partnership with Leon, injuries to his colleagues saw also fill-in to good effect in centre midfield and at left back.
Damien's contract was extended to June 2009 in June 2006.
He was named captain for Phil Parkinson's first game in charge (at West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of 2006-07).
Unfortunately, a few weeks later Damien suffered the first major injury of his career when he ruptured ankle ligaments in a freak training ground incident.
On his return, he established a new central defensive partnership with Michael Turner as the Tigers successfully avoided relegation back to League One.
