QPR's Mahon: Promotion Comes From More Than Just Money

Ealing Gazette/Yann Tear: Perspective of Gavin Mahon: Cash alone will not guarantee success

GAVIN Mahon has warned that cash alone will not take Rangers to the Premier League - it will also take bundles of hard work and team spirit.
The former Brentford and Watford midfielder is one of seven new players to have arrived at the club so far in the January window and is as excited as any of them about what it means to the club.
The Mittal billions, allied to the not inconsiderable contributions from fellow-owners Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore are expected to fast-track Rangers to the promised land within three years.
But Mahon is keen to remind fans not to get ahead of themselves in assuming the surreal cash injection will automatically bring success.
"We know it's a hard league to get out of, everyone knows that," the midfielder said.
"Flavio talked to me of a three-year plan but I know deep down he wants to get up before three years. I think next season he's going to really go for it.
"That's why he's spending big in January and that's why he wants to get a squad of players together to keep picking up points this season and see where that takes us.
"You don't come to a club that's struggling and spend a few million pounds expecting it not to work out. He really wants to go for it and I want to be part of that.
"That said, it's not just about money. You don't necessarily need to spend millions to go up to the Premiership because other qualities are equally important. Look at what we did at Watford.
"We didn't have a big budget. We had quality play-ers but also hard work and team spirit. You need that and the lads have definitely got it here and the future's looking good.
"The boss is bringing in players who are also hungry for success. I'm one of those and if I can bring my experience to the squad, that will help
