Mail - Rowlands penalty is a Brucey bonus - QPR 1 Norwich 0 By GRAHAM OTWAY
Steve Bruce added to his own speculation about his poor long-term employment prospects at Premier League Birmingham by turning up at Loftus Road on Monday night to see QPR triumph in this Championship basement battle.
Martin Rowlands scored from the spot to double Rangers' points tally for the season, but they remain bottom and Norwich boss Peter Grant is still under pressure. Bruce could have been checking on the form of Rowan Vine, the striker the Blues have loaned to QPR.
But hours after admitting that new Birmingham owner Carson Yeung is unlikely to honour a contract extension, Bruce may have been looking for a new job.
And while swapping the Premier League for the bottom of the second tiermay appear a strange move, managerless Rangers may well have impressed him during the first half. They could easily have scored twice through Mikele Leigertwood and Hogan Ephraim.
The latter, a former England Under 19 international, was the main reason for Rangers' early dominance but sadly for any manager preparing to take over from caretaker Mick Harford, his future lies elsewhere — his loan deal from West Ham ran out with the final whistle.
Rangers were frustrated by referee Peter Walton's refusal to award them a penalty when Norwich skipper Jason Shackell clearly appeared to foul Vine as he cut in from the right.
But Walton did spot a foul on Vine by Ian Murray in the 66th minute and Rowlands tucked away the resulting penalty. Mail
