QPR Official Site -Chris Barker after his hernia operation
BARK TO HIS BEST
Chris Barker is relishing the prospect of playing for the R's without the hassle of daily treatment and tablets.
The full back, who joined from Cardiff City on a free transfer in the summer, only underwent a hernia operation on Wednesday morning but is expected to be fit for Rangers' Championship clash against Ipswich Town on Saturday week.
The 27 year-old flew out to Germany in order to have the surgery conducted by Ulrika Muschaweck, who recently treated England striker Michael Owen with a similar
"From start to finish, it was all done in less than two hours," Barker told www.qpr.co.uk.
"Being able to have the operation done by one of the world's best is good for me and good for the Club, too.
"I'm hopeful of being available for Ipswich because I've been told that I should be able to resume full training as early as next Wednesday."
The hard-working defender has been playing on with the injury for a few weeks, and is now pleased to have had the opportunity to get the problem seen to.
"It started about a month ago," he admitted, "but I kept training and playing matches. I was having treatment twice a day, as well as taking tablets.
"In yourself, you know you're not 100 per-cent, but hopefully now that's over and done with.
"It's only natural that it's at the back of your mind, because you know that you need to get it sorted. Now it has, and I just want to get back to my best - starting with Ipswich." QPR

Michael Mancienne is set to return to full training on Monday after what will be a six-week lay off.
The Rangers defender came off during the 3-0 home defeat to Southampton owing to an issue with his back/hamstring, but there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel for the Chelsea loanee.
"He is doing really well," confirmed Head Physiotherapist Paul Hunter.
"He is now working hard with the fitness coach and, all being well, will resume training with the rest of the first team squad early next week.
"We have worked closely with the medical staff at Chelsea, and Michael has spent some time over at Cobham using their state-of-the-art facilities, which has been a big help."
Meanwhile, Chris Barker successfully underwent a hernia operation in Germany this morning (Wednesday) with world-renowned surgeon Ulrika Muschaweck.
Hunter told www.qpr.co.uk: "We used the same surgeon who recently operated on Michael Owen. The Club are keen to use the best available aid, which is absolutely great from my point of view.
"Ulrika uses the very latest techniques, which means the recovery time is a lot less.
"We've made use of the international break to get this done. We're confident that Chris will be back in training next week and available for the Ipswich game."
Dexter Blackstock also underwent knee surgery recently, as Hunter explained: "After the Colchester match, Dex was diagnosed with a small tear in the cartilage in his left knee," he said.
"He had an operation on Saturday morning, which was a complete success.
"He is already making excellent progress with his rehabilitation, and will be working as hard as ever to get back as soon as possible."
Fellow striker Danny Nardiello has missed the last three matches with a similar injury to Mancienne, and Hunter admitted the former Barnsley man is slightly behind the defender in terms of a return.
"He is working hard in the gym at the moment to build up his fitness," he said.
"We should have a clearer indication next week as to exactly where he is at."
Simon Walton is yet to feature for the R's in a competitive fixture following his summer transfer from Charlton.
The combative midfielder suffered a fractured fibula in his left leg during our pre-season friendly against Fulham, and Hunter said: "The fracture has healed well, and Simon is making steady progress.
"We are at the stage now where we are assessing him on a weekly basis."
Another player yet to feature for the R's this season is Pat Kanyuka, who suffered a nasty thigh injury before the campaign got underway.
"Pat recently had further tests, which showed he is making excellent progress," Hunter said.
"He is now gradually building up his fitness in the gym, but this is going to take a bit of time as he didn't have a pre-season. In a way, he's having that now.
"Hopefully he will be in a position to join the other lads in full training in four weeks' time."
Marc Nygaard has recently been unavailable with a calf injury, but Hunter is confident that the Dane isn't too far off a potential return.
"Marc should resume full training at some stage next week," he added. QPR
