Happy Birthday America! The QPR-USA Connection

-
On July 4, Taking note of the QPR/USA Connection

Besides a considerable number of QPR fans who live throughout the United States, there are a limited QPR-USA connection. Unfortunately on the playing side, only a couple of US players played for QPR: Juergen Sommer and Roy Wegerle. (Wegerle at QPR remembered)
QPR last season had two American goalkeepers in the squad. Matt Pickens who spent a few months with the club, coming from Chicago Fire, before being released. Another American goalie, Dale Crowther, was on the QPR subs bench a couple of times last season

Several QPR players have gone to the USA: Most recently, Gino Padula signed for Columbus Crewe although he's scarely played; while Danny Dichio is with Toronto and is in the running for the MLS all stars team.
Others: Juergen Sommer to Columbus Crew (and he is now Director of Soccer with Colorado Rapids; and Roy Wegerle, Steve Morrow, Danny Dichio and John Spencer (Morrow who was recently axed as Chief Coach with FC Dallas; and Spencer having moved into coaching).

The greatest of them all, Rodney Marsh...

Ex-QPR manager, Gordon Jago, the man who built the foundations for QPR's 1975/76 "Championship" Team, came to QPR having coached in the US, and after QPR (and Millwall) returned to the US where he's been involved in coaching for the past three decades. (Note: In 1984, Jago was reappointed QPR manager after Terry Venables and then a week later, was "unappointed.")

QPR came close to having a link to Milwaukee Brave/Tim Krause.

In the early 1980s, Dean Neal was transferred from QPR to Tulsa Roughnecks. As was David McCreery. and Barry Wallace. In late 1970s, Mick Leach went to Detroit Express (as did then Birmingham's Trevor Francis)
